BTW, new stuff just hit.
Say hello to the "Unicorn" of OP6 TGSPs: The Matte Tempered Glass.
Is it good? Well, TBH it's not perfect (I'll elaborate below), but if you're one of those funky souls who prefer matte protectors, you actually don't have much to choose from to begin with. It's either:
A) Your run-of-the-mill, thin as heck, Matte Film SP (matte ClearCoat vinyl types included)
B) The generic China supposedly "matte" TG (yeah this is actually a thing lol) with terrible cutting, edge rainbows galore and sometimes "blue light cutting" features I don't even want
C) This thing. Specifically, the
Encased MagGlass Matte Tempered GlassSo, why isn't it "perfect" then?

Well, firstly, let's get the $$$ issue out of the way: While the protector itself is actually not all that expensive at about RM60 each, they're ONLY available from eBay, Amazon or direct from Encased - all of which ship the bloody thing for another $20 on top of that. I did manage to scrounge up some coupon codes though which did help a liiiiitle bit.
The next issue? Similar to most other partial protectors, this thing only really covers the flat part of the screen. The THING is, its actually worse then the others in this regard as it's actually SHORTER then even the X-One by something like 1mm on each side.
This means that it will only really pair all that well with the Spigen with its THICC lips - which help mask the short edges. Also, if you're OCD about coverage, the shortness may drive you nuts.
Also, being matte, it's expectedly "grainy-er" then a clear protector - though TBH it's actually not as bad as I'd expect it to be (the Japanese Matte X-One cousin I had on my old Honor 8 was WAYYYY worse in this regard).
On the plus side though, this really feels like glass, and unlike the X-One, the edges actually FEEL beveled like the Nilkin and the InvisShield, which also helps mitigate the shortness issue if not for feel alone. Also, it feels like 0.33mm, so that might help in terms of long term durability (vs the thin ass Nilkin H+).
And the matte surface looks and feels AWESOME for a matte lover like me, though only time will tell if this is ACTUAL matte glass or just a TGSP with a (very well cut) matte film on top of it (which of course will scratch a lot easier). Either way, even if it's film-on-glass, it's done better than what I could probably manage to DIY on my own lol.
At least now I don't have to stare at my ugly mug every time I wanna use the OP6, religiously wipe the screen to get rid of fingerprints or squint hard every time the glossy screen reflects the sun into my eyes - without having to worry about the screen being protected enough during drops OR having to deal with RAINBOWS.
All of which are good enough reasons for me to forgive the MagGlass for that little shortness issue and relative pricey-ness lol... at least until something better comes along.
TL;DR: It's pretty good, but cut a bit short on the edges and a bit pricey due to limited availability. I like it though, but YMMV.
That said, Encased should really consider making a "Orzly-like" full coverage Matte TGSP, which would readily solve that pesky short edges issue (with the black frame lol).
