The Tear-down

Tear-down for this Hikvision IP camera is rather easy, by unscrewing the 3 Philips screws on the camera casing, you will be able to access the printed circuit board and the imaging unit of the camera.

Attached Image

Once the camera unit is opened, aside from the printed circuit board, you will notice the huge ribbon connecting the imaging unit and the PCB.
You will also notice there is a dessicant pack, to absorb any moistures that is present inside the camera unit to prevent damage to the electronics inside.

On the left side of the semi-sphere, unscrew another 3 philips screws that secure the PCB, we will discover the electronics on the other side of the PCB.

Attached Image

Larger chips and electronics can be observed, including the microSD card slot.
There is also a white colour soft cooling pad, which suggesting the electronics underneath potentially dissipating more heats than the others, you might already know what kind of chip is that.

Attached Image

The brain of this Hikvision 8MP IP camera is "Ambarella S3L" SoC.

Attached Image

On the right side of the semi-sphere, we can access the imaging unit of this camera once we unscrewed the 2 small Philips screws.

Here is the imaging sensor and also the PCB it is sitting on, no suitable equipment to identify the make and the model of the sensor used.

Adding Microphone to support sound recording

As this Hikvision 8MP IP camera does not come with an internal microphone, we can enable recording with sound by adding microphone using the audio input line.

Method 1: Adding External microphone

Adding external microphone is rather easy, here are the item you will need to add an external microphone:
1. External microphone unit for surveillance (Hikvision DS-2FP1021 used in this example)
2. DC power female to 2 male split cable
3. DC power female solder free adapter
4. POE Splitter with 48V to 12V converter (POE setup only)

Without POE setup

With POE setup:

Method 2: Adding Internal microphone

Adding an internal microphone requires soldering skills, but the end result does not alter the camera outlook much, and there will be no messy wires to deal with.
1. Miniature microphone (GK-1000 as example)
2. Soldering kit
3. Electrical drill

Attached Image

12V DC power supply can be tap from the capacitor soldering point in this position, and the audio in wire is purple in colour.
Attached Image

Attached Image

After drilling done, the glass layer might broken but it does not really matter, smooth out the drill to have beautiful finishing on the outside.

Tighten or glue the microphone securely, and assemble the IP camera and you are done.

If your microphone sensitivity can be adjust, you will have to adjust it before you assemble the camera.

Sellers at TB are selling around ¥ 497.70, or around RM 308 per camera at the moment excluding domestic and international shipping fee.

Why bother with 4K? You are going to need a crazy amount of storage space for video retention.

Thanks
I dunno how these cameras work
Does this capture like continuously or only when it detects motion?
I’m looking for one that works something like xiaofang but with 4K quality
IP cam type

Yes, I agree with you that 4K need huge amount of storage space especially when you want to keep the recording for longer period of time.
This IP camera has H.265 and also Smart H.265 support, which can further reduce the storage and bandwidth requirement for recording and streaming.

If one have the budget to put 4K camera for the whole house, the person should have no problem to install more storage for recording.
For me, I just purchase 2 units of them to play with it. biggrin.gif

From my observation, hard disk for surveillance usage is getting cheaper now.
For example WD 4TB Purple hard disk, I bought at around RM 680 two years ago, now cost only RM 430 per piece.

I did a quick read your Xiaofang review thread.
Xiaofang is tiny and cheap, compare to this Hikvision IP Camera.

For motion detect, this Hikvision 8MP IP Camera works a little different than the Xiaofang.
In this Hikvision IP camera, you can come out with your own recording plan, choose motion detect (or continuous recording, event recording and etc...) to be recorded in the SDcard (if present), at any given time and day, as shown in the screenshot below.

Chinese interface:
Attached Image

English interface (Google translated):
Attached Image

Once you done setting your motion detect recording plan, you can select which area in the video and the trigger sensitivity that you would like to trigger motion detect, as shown below:

Chinese interface:
Attached Image

English interface (Google translated):

In addition, you can choose what to do when the motion detect trigger happened, for example sent an email, notify server, trigger alarm out, etc...

Currently . I playing with a DS-2CD3T86FWDV2-I8s 4mm. Impressed with the 8M image. Thinking of getting DS-2CD3386FWDV2-IS to play with it.

I have a few questions :

1) is 2.8mm or 4mm better? Intend to place in at the car porch which is around 6 -7m from the house door to the gate.
2) How many IR Leds ?

1) Choice of focal length (2.4mm or 4mm) is depending on the recording context or area of your interest. You will have to ask yourself is 2.4mm or 4mm more suitable for you, when you want to that area to be monitored. From where to where, in this area you would like to monitor. From your statement, you may want to place the camera near your house door, and want to monitor your car porch, which is 6 to 7 meters from your house door, in this case, 4mm might be more suitable. I am just giving my wild guess, without knowing your actual situation.

2) There are two IR LEDs, which is places right below the camera lens.

Thanks for the recommendation. I will buy one soon to play with it.

I also have a NVR DS-7808NB-K2/8P with 2 x 4TB WD purple HDD. Are you able to to access the NVR using web browser like Chrome , IE etc. After login from browser, it asked me to install some software but after installed, still unable to see the video. Now can only see it thru IVMS-4500 and IP Cam Viewer.

I have an older model of NVR, DS-7808N-K2/8P, without the "B".
I am able to access the NVR using web browser, but strictly only on Internet Explorer, not even Edge.

Yes, you will have to install the software, and also enable and allow the Hikvision ActiveX object to run on Internet Explorer.

Since you are on Windows, you can just install and use their iVMS-4200 client software.
With this software you don't have to deal with the browser mess, and don't have to login everytime.

Note: If you are using Chinese set, you can only use Chinese version of iVMS-4200.

Once you have the China version on hand, you can use it anywhere.
And yes, the China version, all interface will be in Chinese.
Also, you cannot plugin China set camera to international set recorder, and, you cannot use English version of iVMS-4200 windows client to work with China set camera.
