The merchant use offline approval (Approval code VLP111 instead of 6 digit numbers) for fast processing without going through real time verification. Maybank won't know this transaction till the transaction is posted. Therefore your available credit limit is not earmarked.
Great technical explanation TQ. I checked back my receipts & yes indeed merchant's bank is PBB and approval code VLP111.
Very interesting - i thought in today's highly connected urban areas, offline processing wld been phased out.
So what happens to merchant if :-
(i) cardholder maxes out credit limit shortly after VLP111 approval but before txn is posted/settled
(ii) the daily cumulative contactless purchase limit has already been reached when cardholder makes the VLP111 txn
(iii) stolen card used before the card owner manages to get bank to block it
