[UPDATE] :
this issue solve after change to another router which i bought my self (asus brand).
suggest if anyone is facing similar issue, swap the router and test.
mine is confirm router issue. bought a asus router and issue gone.

BUT STILL, a customer should not have to go through all these : back & forth calling Maxis support + self research + self buy router, seriously, are Maxis expecting everyone to go and buy their own router???

TLDR:

# Maxis fiber internet connection keep on disconnected randomly for no reason.
# this internet dc issue can be notice on both WIFI and LAN connected device.
# when change back to unifi router and modem, all is good.
# tried every thing to solve maxis random dc issue, no result.
# suspect ISP (maxis) or their provided hardware is the root cause.

Long ver:

hi all ,anyone experiencing random internet lost when using Maxis Fiber broadband ?

i switch from unifi 30m to maxis 30m, initially some hiccups happen but was fixed after calling the Maxis tech (thanks maxis tech guys). but then i notice the internet is not stable at all since it will lost internet randomly.

this is frustrating since even thou it happen randomly, but it happen in a very consistent fasion.

this kind of internet lost is very noticeable, especially during online game session. the entire game session will lost when this happen, and for most cases not able to reconnect.

same thing when browsing website. when click to open a site, you will notice the site is not loading at all, and at that moment, when check the task bar at the lower right, you will notice the red "X" at the network icon which indicate the internet is lost. the internet will recover after a few second.

initially suspect the LAN cable or Network adapter is at fault, but this is not the case for my side because when the internet is lost, it happen at both devices that connect to WIFI and LAN device. i know the internet is lost at the device that connect to wifi as well cuz i install app to do ping at my android device.

when the internet is lost, both LAN and WIFI connected device will get ping error "General failure." or "Request timed out.", this will happen for like a few second, then the internet will be back again.

Attached Image

This never happen when using Unifi provided hardware.

true enough, when revert back to Unifi hardware, all is good and not a single "General failure" or time out error from the ping result (LAN connected PC). WiFi wise very little packet lost, way lesser when compare to the time connected to Maxis. hence the entire issue pointing back to either the ISP (Maxis) which i have no idea what happen over there, or their provided hardware (modem or router) have some kind of serious issue.

i fully aware that my area's intra is not that great(old flat), hence im not even expecting full 30mbps speed. But heck, constant internet disconnect is a big no no for me, even if Im not using the internet for gaming.

anyone have any kind of solution on this ? i seriously doubt change to a better router will help.
do let me know if any of you have solution for this. thanks in advance.

i did call the Maxis SC and get some tech support for this but their solution not really solving the internet lost issue. will keep this maxis for another few day for testing purpose, mostly might end up returning it due to the constant random internet lost, which is a shame since Maxis offer better download and upload speed at a lower price.

Since the Unifi hardware works and the Maxis one gave this fault, just call Maxis to troubleshoot. Most likely their hardware problem.

Happened to me roughly 2 years ago, DC for several seconds only but very consistent. Like every 15 to 20 minutes once.

Changed the Maxis's default modem to my own Asus one. Problem gone.

just today alone i called them twice. non-able to solve the intermittent internet dc issue.
the last one that help me troubleshoot is very helpful and know what his doing.
but unfortunately even after that the issue still reoccur.

The tech guy did mention suspect is hardware issue, and looking at the current situation, high chance that's the case.

i actually spend my evening at lowyat and looking at various router over there. any recommendation from your side, or maybe the model you're using now? thanks in advance.
also, do you meant router or modem? cuz from what i know when survey at lowyat, they say they no sell modem only (aside those 2 in 1 type).

Are u employed on full time or temporary or part-time or contact or other service provider basis by TM or Axiata or any of their subsidiary or partner or shareholder firms?

sigh.... not these type of reply at serious /k....

the answer is NO to all your above question, this is not about hate , and im not anti-maxis or pro-TM or Axiata (<<<what is this Axiata anyway, not aware until you mention)

I'm just a user that paid for the service, and expect to get at least a stable and usable internet line.

I’m using Asus. Bought it from someone here who has a shop in Sunway Geo.
Apparently there’s 2 models only cheap one which is just a few hundred ringgit & the expensive one which is beyond RM1k. I went with the cheap one & it’s been great so far.

Unfortunately I don’t have the model details on my finger tips, maybe there’s even a newer model already too. So maybe you can research about Asus router/modem first.

For me, no need deeper diagnostic. It obviously WiFi router. You can easily confirm by connecting direct to the BTU or/and WiFi LAN socket using cable. The wireless side if the router is usually the problematic one.

The Axiata was known as TM International, which operate separately. Basically it is Celcom. smile.gif So, nothing to do with Unifi

to both of you, THANK YOU SO MUCH!
i really glad i took you two's advice and go purchase a new router myself, cuz this router actually solve the intermittent internet disconnect issue.

went to lowyat this morning and been ping to gateway and google.com until now, heck, no more those multiple line of request time out or general failure !!!

at this point i dont even bother with their contractor to come and swap another maxis provide router, since they might provide the same thing and with same issue.

You’re welcome, have fun with your smoother line now laugh.gif

I was told that maxis default router sucks, lotsa people encounter this after a few years. So it’s fine to change it anyway.

I was on Unifi and got the wireless AP changed once due to something similar, though not as frequent. The technician did not ask much. smile.gif

I was using the TM router for so long until recently I decided to change to Asus. TM called to offer upgrade with discount RM230 for 100Mbps (mine include unlimited landline call). They said they will upgrade the router too. Well, I declined stating that my laptop is old and can only connect to 54Mbps laugh.gif

The reason I chose Asus is because you can mix with other Asus models and upgrade their firmware to form mesh network. thumbsup.gif

its like, 1000 times better than the maxis provided router. no kidding !!

for some one that been with Unifi provided hardware for 6 freaking years , I'm now a firm believer on getting a better network hardware = better experience , no more doubt.

i bought an asus ac1300 ac58u.
when setting up, i notice at the asus router setting there mention "port 3" = VOIP, weird cuz the sales person say this router no VOIP function.

so out of curious, i connect the Maxis router to asus router at lan port 3 . so now, the asus router that does not comes with phone port can use maxis provided wireless phone to receive and makes call , through that Maxis router !

seriously did not expect that feature !!!

and the 1st thing this sweet sweet router did when connected to the internet is download and update its firmware ! so smart !!! totally no idea a router is capable of doing such !!!

not yet into the mesh network thou, but that some how sounds very interesting !!

The Unifi ready is just the one that can support VLAN. The Asus router and selection in menu to set to Unifi setting thus easy for customer. Maybe no Maxis setting, but if you know the setting, you can still manually configure but yet need to know all the setting parameters sad.gif

This is the reason why initially I tot of switching to it due to price but end up managed to hold it back for good reasons.
