Basically whole phone is plastic except the screen.
You are basically buying the specs only for this phone.
*
It's actually not bad, and probably the right way to go, especially the kevlar back.
You see most phone casing does not feel like metal or glass anyway (so called premium materials). If I were to buy this phone, I don't need any casing.
I had the Dupont carbon kevlar in my OP5T before. It feels damn good.

I am not sure offering a glass edition would actually be called luxury. If by your definition, then OnePlus is a luxury phone then
*
What he meant was the premium feeling of glass la, which is true based on its history in phone construction and what manufacturers trying to make us perceive that way.

Before glass, they used aluminium due to the rigid feeling in hand. Glass and ceramic could give the same feeling + wireless charging (this is what sets high end flagship phones apart from budget flagships) + better signal reception. However, both of these are brittle and obviously do not have the same durability as aluminium or even plastic.

among the case, the one i really interested is the bamboo case released by motorola, before they gone bankrupt...
this one really artistic and stand out differently

user posted image
*
Is that the same manufacturer as Oneplus bamboo cover?
The best case I ever had is the official OnePlus carbon kevlar bumper case, made by Dupont. Its the same one in Pocophone F1 kevlar edition. With that finishing, I think we don't need a phone case at all.

Actually the older Lumia phones had a very nice feel even though they were made of plastic (PC). Felt sturdy and more solid compared to the plastic of Samsung phones back in the day.
*
Eh... Nokia's polycarbonate was actually different than Samsung's plastic. It's more practical in the sense that we don't need a case.

actually aldy regret last time didnt grab 5z (6/128gb) at rm1699.

rather than now waiting for this cutthroat poco (6/64) 1599
*
How can it be? Unless you did not factor in SST coming in September.
Mi 8 Msia set is RM1599. Poco must be lower.

Why? A2 still gets direct updates from Gugel. U get to taste new OS first than any other Mi phones and not to mention no bloatwares.
Poco F1 have to wait for xiaomi to release and will only get Android Pie in 3 months time.
*
Update is overrated, considering such a big difference in hardware performance and minimal additional price.

Well, OnePlus can always come up with OnePlus XX (OnePlus X in 2015) if they wanna capture POCO market...
*
OnePlus X existed for different reasons. It wanted to do a mini phone but with outdated SoC.
https://gadgets.ndtv.com/mobiles/news/onepl...pete-lau-849508

Definitely cannot do the same like Poco without risk killing their own flagships like how Pocophone is eating into Mi8 market share.

Oneplus6 is not a great phone. The speakers are single speakers and the sound is not great.

Besides, the camera is average.

This pocofone has a better camera and better stereo speakers
*
Er...basically these are the two weakest parts of OP6. The camera can be overcome by using Gcam. Other than that, it's still a great phone.
Hopefully OP6T would have dual speakers.

Not sure but OP6 with Gcam is pretty damn good for low light. Not sure if Poco can support or not.

I am a iPhone user but this poco f1 is too good to pass on with the spec and price.
Having sleepless night considering getting it as a gaming and entertainment phone.  hmm.gif
*
QUOTE(Eiraku @ Aug 29 2018, 02:29 AM)
If all you want is gaming and entertainment from 2ndary phone, it's pretty much a straight buy TBH, as most of what it lacks should be on your primary edi (plus a 2nd phone is often less abused in the long run).

So... buybuybuybuybuy... biggrin.gif

irenic Nice NDA you got there bro... I jelly... brows.gif
*
Hehe Unless you guys have iPhone X, I don't see how this phone can be your secondary phone. I think it will replace your iPhone after some time. brows.gif

QUOTE(Punish @ Aug 30 2018, 06:46 AM)
636 vs 845 in theory which one is better for battery efficiency...i can only assume it was 636 due to low freq and low performance gpu....what stop me now to get the f1 was the sot....i can achieve 10 hour sot on my redmi note 5...read somewhere poco can only do 8hour...for me, i prefer that extra 2 hour sot over performance...becuz i dont games...at all..
*
Er...845 is the Ferrari of SoC. Of course it does not have the best efficiency.

QUOTE(merpatinoob @ Aug 30 2018, 09:34 AM)
On SD636 VS SD845, in terms of fluidity when scrolling and overall smoothness, is there any difference? I don't do much gaming but more concerned on the smoothness i.e. less jag stutter and lag.

Currently using RN5
*
Not sure. But I tested the A2 in shop demo, it wasn't as smooth as I thought, even with Android One. Coming from OP5T and Sony XZ2.

QUOTE(WiLeKiyO @ Aug 30 2018, 09:55 AM)
Yes, just take any mid range SoC and high end SoC and compare side by side, you'll notice high end phone is better in overall smoothness.

In my case, I compared Mi A1 and Oneplus 6, both are smooth, but Oneplus 6 kinda feel more responsive to touch, similar to iPhone.
*
Yes. OnePlus really sets the bar damn high, to be honest. I do not have any experience in other brands, but this is what I perceived from reading and friends' exp:
Google Pixel (most consistent animation) >= OnePlus Oxygen (faster but may not be as consistent) > Android One (except Nokia, all Android One comes with lower end SoC) > MIUI >> Samsung and Huawei

Then there's this high refresh rate screen, Razer and Asus ROG, which really makes a difference in scrolling smoothness.

QUOTE(DValentine @ Aug 30 2018, 10:21 AM)
slower on paper but software optimization also do the job,

in this case android one smoother than miui
*
Not so sure. The A2 I tested was quite jittery in scrolling. Maybe that phone has issue?

QUOTE(Azureknight94 @ Aug 30 2018, 10:46 AM)
Pixel not necessarily the smoothest though biggrin.gif check out MKBHD video on the pixel and why he stopped using it. For some odd reason, the pixel started to slow down and it happened on a brand new pixel too.
But yeah generally, animation etc smoothness oneplus seems to be one of the best Android if not the best. Android One phones may be good but I'm sure they stutter too as they're on lower end hardware.
This pocophone should be better than any XiaoMi that isn't using the 845. 845 is a flagship and should perform better than even those on Android one.
Of course one way to reduce stutters etc is to just off all animations biggrin.gif
*
Oh...I said animation smoothness, it means transition of screens. This exclude RAM loading etc. IMHO, Pixel is good at hiding these micro stutters by locking the frame rate, and hence the "smoothness", with minimum standard deviation of frame rates.

But then, to me, Pixel is really not worth the price though, and yes, 4GB is hardly sufficient, no matter how good is the RAM management.

Remain to be seen if Poco is as good as Oxygen. Hopefully so. thumbup.gif

Not official Mi store but Directd Publika. Ori set and official price. Free controller that I will never use it, will give it together when selling it later maybe 2 3 months

Anyway hide the notch not fully hide it laugh.gif

Just got Mi8 during the launch. Already aware of POCO but didnt expect it to come so soon.

the release of Mi A2, Mi8 and POCO are too close from each other. EIN might suffer if they overbook the devices but who cares.

Since i got my Mi8, no point turning back la.

The only different between Mi8 and POCO i see are :
- AMOLED vs IPS screen (doesnt matter for me either but AMOLED much brighter la)
- 3600mAH vs 4000mAH (POCO won this part, just cannot brain why Mi8 dont put 4000mAH like RN5)
- 1899 vs 1429 (POCO cheaper)
- Dual GPS vs normal GPS (Not really sure how good is Dual GPS on Mi8)
-Steel back cover vs plastic cover. (not sure)
- No cooling system vs water cooling

Anyway, i managed to get the Amazfit BIP when purchase Mi8 la. The price was RM279.

So the phone is RM1620 + amazfit RM279 = RM1899

So my phone price and the POCO is difference by RM191 only, not so hurt la unless i don get the amazfit bip. LOL. I got AMOLED Screen and Steel back cover except the battery capacity and the water cooling. I guess steel back cover could dissipate the heat as efficient as water cooling thingy.

Anyway, my next phone would be 12GB RAM + 256GB ROM/512GB ROM in couple of years...
Used to have GPS prob which my Google map and waze dont work.. After reboot the Mi8, the problem gone.
*
The so-called liquid cooling is just heatpipe. If Mi8 has no heating and throttling issues, then adding heatpipe doesn't make much difference.
A few fhings you missed out: Poco has dual speakers and 3.5mm audio.

QUOTE(blueheaven @ Aug 30 2018, 06:24 PM)
Those anti miui one ah, what are the reasons they hate miui?

I really considering go back to Xiaomi, but so many ppl hate miui, I'm concerned. Frankly, last time when I use Xiaomi, it started to lag after awhile. But that was the original redmi phone, and it was dirt cheap..

I am a EMUI user and I'm fine with it.
*
Most people hate MIUI because of how it mimic iOS look, but with deep menu and micro management. EMUI is also similar but with worse icons.

QUOTE(kapalterbang_737 @ Aug 30 2018, 07:19 PM)
With all the hype with Pocophone suddenly feels like getting one laugh.gif

I am a casual user, dont have even a single game in my current phone, so will Poco a bit overkill for me?

And the notch is really a turn off... Can hide it but will look ugly
*
The cheapest 845 without a notch display is Mix 2S. Maybe you can consider that.

QUOTE(kevin23 @ Aug 31 2018, 12:48 PM)
845 is good.

But performance is determined by optimization etc etc. Not only the processor.

Played with the phone at the shop. Somehow feels like its not optimised.

Speakers are not that loud even though got stereo speakers.

Basically u are just paying for that 845 chip which is not good enough
*
What u mean it's not optimised? Members below had totally opposite experiences than yours lol.

QUOTE(MorningBoyz @ Aug 31 2018, 06:44 PM)
+Just tested Poco F1. Yeah really this phone is meant for performance and gaming, really worth to get. For that reason then can buy. Other than that not my liking.

-Screen quality very bad, color very bad, overall faded not saturated color. Other midrange Xiaomi device has better screen quality than this within same IPS LCD. For media consumption like YouTube or watch online drama, anime, movie doesn't look nice.

-Camera memang so so saja but given it is this price point so it is considered good.

-Design material and color doesn't matter, put on a case apa pun tak nampak dy.

Overall it is a good phone to use if main usage is gaming only and daily driver.
*
You're the first person I saw complained about the display. Most reviews have little complain about it, being an IPS panel. Having said that, the panel is not HDR10 compatible.
I started to doubt there are more than one LCD suppliers?

The Poco camera can barely match with even some midranger much less ZenFone 5z. You're buying the Pocophone F1 for it's flagship hardware, specifically it's Snapdragon 845 SoC which is considered the highest tier SoC for mobile devices in the market currently.

If you want a phone that excel in photography capabilities as other premium flagships then you're looking at the wrong phone and maybe consider something like  the Pixel 2, OnePlus 6, S9 or Note 9 instead.  brows.gif

Use Gcam app on Poco. Should be able to improve a lot.

Only HDR+ Enhanced pictures work right now, but the quality imo is much better than stock

Weird. I briefly tested stock vs gcam HDR+ Enhanced on indoor pic. Can say can't see significant difference at all.

OK. RM79 not bad...

Because VoLTE depends one the telco and manufacturers. The Telco must include the phone model only it can run.
