Could you be more specific? How tough is it? What aspects do they test us on? I'm interested in applying for BAT management trainee in few months time.

TS: Last time I asked the HR guy during career fair 2007. They told me management trainee is around RM2000, after the 2 years programme, then promoted to can't remember what position then earn around RM4k plus minus.

If i'm not mistaken, it was RM2.5K. My friend joined the first batch in year 2005, then he got promoted to RM3K-RM3.5K after a year, depends on performance.

My advice since I have done the test. Whatever it is, it's CRAZILY tough and don't even think about the salary and benefits. Its good but can you pass the test?

I've applied and successfully got chosen for BAT's Global Service Delivery (GSD) management trainee program. The HR in charge of the screening is the same as the management trainee program, hence the test is the same. In my honest opinion, the test is definitely not difficult. First part is a paper exam regarding critical mathematics and critical logical English.

After that you go through half a day continuous activities such as interviews, presentation and group discussions. The key is being confident and able to carry yourself. Everyone looks for leaders these days so you should know what to do if you want to get chosen.

For example, during the group discussion you should volunteer to be the discussion leader if you're capable. Remember, they are not looking for puppets. They want people who can lead and bring them fresh bright ideas.

FYI, the offer was RM 2.5k for 1 year "training" contractual period. After which those that "pass" the 1 year will be offered a permanent position with the department. Hope this helps and good luck.

I think BAT pays really well for their management trainees...probably the best in the country. Usually, other companies will only offer between 1.8K to 2K for trainees and then less than 10% increment for permanent.

If BAT mgnt trainee being paid 2.7k, thats way too lame, because an IT guy that work there have for half a year and after promotion only 2.5k(included allowance). Work like hell, and I mean it.

It's true. They only take in MAX 20 people every year for this program. This 20 will be divided accordingly to each department

BAT GSD version of management trainee is called Biz Tech Associate. Which is a different entity altogether from BAT Malaysia. And BTA depending on your luck you might be mighty lucky to have the chance to fly around all over the world if not you'll just be stuck around Malaysia or Asia Pacific=P This is a one year program. You'll be rewarded with RM5000 at the end of the program too. Kick ass right wink.gif

The RM 5000 "reward" is your promised contractural bonus.

There are a few BAT entities in Malaysia currently =)

BAT Malaysia management trainee basic remuneration is RM2700 and RM83 for handphone allowance. It'll be a contract for two years and you'll still be eligible for bonus. After the two years either you get kicked out, offered a normal position or continue on with the acceleration program and on your way to be a manager.

I wonder how's the basic remuneration package for Business Tech Associate? I have heard from my colleagues that BAT offers very good career track and learning opportunity. Usually what will the career prospect for this program after 1 year program? Be a Bussiness Analyst? Associate consultant etc?

Rexis: Its a tobacco company not a smoking company. DUH! of coz the main biz is tobacco. manufacturing, importing, selling, distributing and basically TOBACCO.

and to many unpopular believes, no BAT is a smoke free working environment and there are designated smoking areas. and smoking is cool =)
*
Smoking = burning tobacco, prove me wrong.

Indeed cool, keep on smoking then. Make sure you have a health insurance and make payment on time.

I doubt BAT offers the highest pay for Management Trainee position. I have attended UOB Management Training Preview and they are offering starting pay of not less than RM3K. SO, you do the Maths.

BTW, do you know Maybank is giving out at least 7 Months bonus to Investmnet Banking Department? My friend is working there and HE IS HAVING A GREAT TIME MAN... (of course long working hours too)

What should I say here then? Thank you for smoking?

What do you think gov using BAT tax for? To build more lamp post??

The more tax BAT paid, goverment have to fork out MORE on health care, and loss more due to part of the experienced population being rendered unproductive due to cancer.

Smoking is cool, in fact, it rocks.

RM2.5k for a year...and it takes a quantum leap in terms of salary after your 'graduation'.

although BAT is one of the major players in the tobacco industry i would say its a very good MNC to work for. the perks are great and pay isn't too bad either. if u want to relate it to smoking. smoking is more at a personal level where it is your own choice to smoke. and if u work for BAT i dun think they actually force you to smoke or allow people to smoke freely in the work place.

after 'graduation up to RM5k or not? sounds so tempting.. tongue.gif

Well, I am currently a management trainee with BATM for about 6 months now in the operations department. Basic pay is 2700, with 3 carton cigarette allowance and 3 free meals for the day. Life as a management trainee is fantastic here; but yeah.. really tough to get in. Currently, only 3 management trainees in operations now.

i believe its graph n chart interpretation for the math test.. calculate data frm the given graph/chart.. the prob is you're only given 1 min per ques.. correct me if i'm wrong.

btw, what did they ask during the phone interview?

yeah... you are right about the maths test. but i dont remember how many questions in how many minutes. all i know u need a score of 90 above to pass. so 90 for math and 90 for english. phone interview is quite simple to pass.. cant remember what they ask., but not too tough

From my experience, HR interview will be more general and identifying which funcltion/dept ure most sitable with. Senior Managers could be more focussed and technical depending on your background, experience and knwledge.

Just to update:

It's a 1.5 years rotation, with career progression every year or 2 years, whereby they will place you in overseas managerial position.

The selection process is still 6 rounds, and the process can take from 2 months to 4 months.

Most of the information above is still accurate.
