 [SCAM] grab passenger scam, how to i report this?

Hi Guys, This is my experience today.

grab is my part time job. today i start my grab journey at around 4pm. at the 4th job i got is pick up at cheras and head to nilai for RM117. so i think it's a good deal i just take it. it's a malay guy who can speak very fluent english and claim himself working as manager in an event company. he really look educated and his english is very good so he got my trust and i didn't think much about scamming or cheating. he keep on chatting while we on the way to nilai, and he keep talking about his fiancee like it's so real. he also told me that he borrow his car for his fiancee thats why he got no car and have to take grab, so his fiancee will meet him at jaya grocer nilai for dinner and pick him up. when we reach nilai jaya grocer, he say he tell me got no cash with him and need to get from his fiancee first. so i trusted him and let him go and get money because there was a quite alot people standing at the mall entrance i tot one of them is his fiancee, but then he slowly walk away and by the time when i realize he might run away, he already disappear from my sight. when i call back the number that he used to book grab, it's own by a security guard work at where i picked him up, and the security guard don't know this person. he just helping him to book a grab as the scammer told the guard that his phone run out of battery

so what i actually want to ask here is.. how do i report this to grab? because i don't get pay but grab still charge me for RM28 from grabwallet. (25% comm for grab)

its a very bad day for me, first time got into this kind of trouble myself.

if those who curious, my loss was total 110km and 2hours of drive go and fro, RM10 tol and RM28 grabwallet.
roughly RM70. but the main thing is i so pissed at myself why so dumb.

lesson of the day: never trust anyone no matter how well they look and how well they speak.

you should install onboard dashcam which can see passengers discreetly...so you can make police report

Make a police report. Send a copy to your company.

Perhaps go back to pick up point and talk to the security guard. Perhaps there was CCTV that recorded him.

So you wanna be racists? Then it's not gonna help you either. You think an Indian or Chinese passenger wouldn't do the same to you?

My advice would be, don't trust anyone. Be sceptical. This way, you'll be more careful to not let your guard down even to your own race.

If you have the money, spend RM 700 or less for a Transcend DrivePro 520 or 550. This dash cam got 2 camera, one facing the road, one facing the cabin. The one facing the cabin even got infrared light so it still can record with enough clarity at night. YouTube for video sample. Don't get the cheaper knock-off AnyTek brand.

That is a very good strategy by the scammer to scam. Using other ppl grab account and not paying. I dont think Grab will be able to trace and retrieve the person sincd booking was by third party. Now i think i have to change my dashcam from the xiaomi one to the one that has front and back recording. Investing rm700 for a good dashcam as Grab driver, then we need to drive alot to earn back that amount.

If rider is not friendly and sits at the back, definitely we wont trust to let the person go like that.

So to be watchful is, dont trust rider if the rider is extremely friendly. And wat i mean is 'extremely friendly'.

Did encounter some similar passager but short trips & they did pay.

What you should do is complain to Grab that particular booking was not paid, not trying to find that passenger guy. Because whoever book the trip should shoulder the responsibility. You could still try the police report as suggested above though, but you have no details about the guy hence no way you can trace him.

U can file a report via driver app. Usually they pay u back a few hours later for small amount.

However for fare >rm100, good luck.

at most the security guard get ban only. what else can do if the culprit used other people phone to book.

My advice is file police report > report to grab > follow up the case since it is more than RM100

I don't know crap will honour the payment or not especially above RM100, which is why the police report is crucial, faster file in within 24 hrs period

Actually I already bought the cheaper, knock off brand AnyTek for RM 350. Damn menyesal. Immediately return. Video quality no where near the Transcend. So I also have yet to buy the transcend cam. Tgh kumpul duit lol.

Wait, the only acceptable thing about the AnyTek camera is that it's good if you're not driving at night at all. Coz the video during the day for both inside and outside of the car is decent. Once it is night time, both video is shit.

tough case.. how does Grab want to verify the story?
driver can claim passenger didnt pay but passenger can claim already paid.

i guess thats the risk, im sure even taxi driver also encounter these if passenger just run without paying.

Good to hear that bro. I think we better take more safety measures next time. Probably that's y Grab takes 20% comission? I think that guard's grab account will definitely be banned, no thanks to that scammer.
