Haven't been turbo-ed yet but did replace my TM stock router with a Archer C7 v5. Still on Advance 50 package, but getting close to 50Mbps speed on AC 5Ghz WiFi, is that good or not?
My PC is using a Tp link TL 821N WiFi adapter on speed test only getting 10Mbps, wonder if they are anymore tweaks for it?
My iPad and phone can use the 5Ghz band is also clocked at 50Mbps on speed test.

Read 1st page, 1st post, green text, for more info on wireless. Yes, to getting 50Mbps on 5Ghz AC, and you need to get a new wireless USB adapter for your PC. The TP-Link TLWN821N is not sufficient, as it only supports 2.4GHz and only supports N, and not 5GHz AC. No tweaks for it will support 50Mbps. See 1st page, 1st post, green text for recommended USB wireless adapters.

I'm currently paying RM 219 for 50Mbps (free upgrade from 30Mbps).
Read many here are paying much lesser for the same speed.

Dilemma now as I've just been upgraded to 500Mbps. If paying RM 150-170++ for this, I'm more than happy. But if I've to continue paying RM 219 for 500Mbps, I will definitely go for the new RM 129 for 100Mbps.

Really hope they quickly release some reasonable pricing for existing customer.

Also uncertain is, my unifi contract started in 2015 but they amended to 2017 after the free upgrade from 30Mbps to 50Mbps. If there's going to be penalty then very susah
*
Call 100 and ask TM about your account's contract status, is it in it out of contract? If out, then just go to a TM point and get it changed to 100 Mbps. Why pay more?

Several methods to do this:
1. One powerful, expensive router to cover the entire house
2. Single router, multiple Wifi APs, connected by gigabit cables, or Powerline adapters
3. Single router, multiple Wifi APs, connected by Powerline adapters
4. Mesh Wifi system (including ASUS AI Mesh)

All 3 methods have pros/cons:

1. Easiest to do. Still doesn't guarantee great Wifi speed across entire house.
2. Great Wifi speed everywhere. Harder to config. Need to lay cables.
3. Great coverage & good Wifi speed everywhere. Powerline subject to electrical interference.
4. Great Wifi speed everywhere if correct mesh position. Easy config.

Confirmed my BTU is gigabit connectivity. Cable is cat5e from Asus ac66u to BTU (swapped to another cat5e cable from another router, still same speeds)

Ran out of ideas, Down/Up just below 100mbps, regardless of using wifi / direct LAN.

Received SMS from TM today saying i'm turbo-ed to 500mbps, and to turn off router & btu for 10 minutes. Did that and still no change in speeds.

Clueless as to what's up tongue.gif

Turn off BTU at the machine or at the socket? Tried turning it off at the socket?

Just wanna share my experience.

My sister's house got turbo to 800mbps. She's using ac1200 located in her living room upstairs. So yesterday I bought Tenda AC 18 at Lowyat plaza for RM 299 (at Sri, viewnet is RM 300 haha no difference really) to bridge connection from her house to my house. So I hanged the Tenda router on a window in my room which is also upstairs, and used the mode "universal repeater". It works fine. Quite satisfied. Managed to get 100mbps up and down wirelessly. The signal is really good.

At her house, I managed to get 300mbps on the phone wirelessly with her router.

I wonder if I bought another Tenda AC 18 and replaced her tplink/archer ac1200, would it be better in terms of speed for both me and her house?

You need to change both your router and wireless adapter to 802.11AC to get faster speed on wifi
150Mbps is quite good tho for 802.11N 2.4Ghz blink.gif
*
Ya lo.
Using Archer C7 as my router on the Advance 50 Mbps, my iPad and Lenovo smartphone can get almost 50 Mbps d/l on AC WiFi.
But my PC using TP link WN821N USB WiFi adapter is only getting 12 Mbps d/l on 2.4 GHz N wifi but the u/l is 20 Mbps?!
150 Mbps if on speedtest is very good indeed.

Can you get that sort of speed from far away servers though?

I mean supremely fast local bandwidth is all well and good but does it apply to US/EU/South American servers too?

No point having 800/200 if TM's international links to those countries can't even sustain those speeds.

Imagine when they turbo all the older 100 M to 800 M speeds too. The fiber backbone is finite right, only up to a certain Gbps limit?

That was kinda a factor for me "downgrading" to 100/50 @ RM 129 instead of waiting for 300/50 for my previous 30/10 RM 139 package.

Even on 100/50, not all international speedtest servers can give me 100/50, what more if your speed is more than that.

I am planning to pull a cable from my router to my room from ground floor to first floor of my house.
As shown below, i will stick the lan cable with Unifi cable and tv antenna cable together and following the same path to the space between roof and ceiling, and then go down to my room.
May i know can i use any cat6 utp cable that is long enough? or should I use shielded cable? If i run these cable together will they interfere with each other?
*
Cat 6 cable is already shielded. Unifi cable is fibre optics. Don't worry, they won't interfere with each other.
I just wonder if you can accurately estimate your cat6 cable length? Is there no other more direct path to your room from the router?

Well I do understand your frustration, the important rule when it comes to dealing with CS is never rage/angry at them no matter how disgruntled you are as this will not make CS job (i.e. to serve customers) any easier icon_idea.gif

Be nice and professional to CS agents, as the fact that CS is a very demanding and stressful job, and doing this will almost improve their morale and allows them to serve customers nicely.  After all they work very long hours and they have to handle every single complaints from customers  icon_idea.gif

This Arstechnica article shows why you shouldn't rage at CS agents (read comments if you need some more insight):
https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2017/11...ree/?comments=1

This Lifehacker article is pretty helpful too:
https://lifehacker.com/5917311/how-to-butte...t-what-you-want

In fact, being nice actually gets you good customer service:

Source: I used to work in CS before (not TM)  icon_idea.gif

Haha. Of course lah.
You hammer them on their points or their claims.
They claim it is pilot phase but yet they dare to release new data plans that are cheaper and instantly activateable. While those of us who have been long standing customers are treated so shabbily with excuses of this upgrade phase is a pilot program and it is an automated system that picks which account to upgrade, well the fact TM can just activate the new 100mbps makes themselves look foolish. And all we get for our dissatisfaction is a plea for understanding, mere words. Then can I pay my next bill for unifi services with me words also? Come on. Public listed company, so-called jaguh kampung. Behave like a chump. TM, Telekom Malu.

Yesterday there was a flash sale on Lazada, I snagged a few 🐈 6 cables to start upgrading my house cable infra ahead of the turbo upgrade. RM10 for a 3m 🐈 6 Ugreen cable, not bad i think.

This is not exactly CS fault at all - this is pretty much their policy (again, blame their management for this), after all you cannot blame CS for all of that icon_idea.gif

Again, if you are that unhappy why not just swap out the plans if you can (unless you are bound to a contract of course)?  It's not that you don't have a choice anymore icon_idea.gif
That's why we cannot have nice things sometimes - those who are eligible (or not eligible) for the upgrade or the new plan will always complain about other things, I mean come on we already have reasonably fast connection at relatively low prices (compared to the old plan), and yet people will want to complain shakehead.gif
*
Well put.
But realistically we have no real choice since TM owns pretty much all of the last mile infra. I'm in a landed property so no option for Time fibre and maxis just piggybacks off TM infra so no difference there.
For me, the price difference is negligible to downgrade from my current 500 Mbps plan in-waiting to the now "sold out" 100 Mbps.
TM is really dumb or callous with their new pricing and plans and public communications leading to a lot of frustration and confusion.
When they screw up, you get all these people asking if they should wait for turbo or just get the 100 Mbps and be done with or get another plan that will give them turbo later (yes, some even think the new 100 Mbps plan will be turbo-ed later).
This is Malaysia way, you don't get anything unless you ask and do it firmly and repeatedly. Just like when I repeatedly tell them that their offers to upgrade my streamyx and VIP 5 was too expensive and not value for money.

Guys, want to ask

I'm using 50MB speed and received the turbo invitation email by TM on August. Originally, my speed was 30MB and TM gave a free upgrade of 50MB via the Thank you Campaign 2017. I understand that turbo will give me a speed of 500MB. Currently, I'm paying RM179.60 with tax included.

So, how much are the customers that have a speed of 30MB which is also entitled for the turbo upgrade to 300MB are paying every month with and without tax? Same goes for 100MB as well.

50MB -----> 500MB  (RM179.60)
30MB -----> 300MB (RM ?)
100MB ----> 800MB (RM ?)

Wanted to know if TM has conned me with the newer plan.  Thanks
*
They will continue topay whatever they've been paying all along, no change. Just their speed only up.
With maybe a RM 10 discount it seems.

Sounds like you have the ultimate TV pack and unlimited calls. You could try removing unlimited calls if you find you don't use it much. That could save you RM 20.

Depends on how strongly you resist their calls for you to upgrade your data package.

TM came and replaced my router with DIR842 with MU-MIMO.

Package is 500Mbps.

They tested with their thick Cat6 cable on their and mine devices and achieved 520+ Mbps.

They tested 2.4 Ghz and got about 170+ to 200+ Mbps.

And 5ghz above 200+ .
Now , I got 3 questions.

1. Does this router sufficient for the time being before I buy something better to ultilize 300Mbps and above on Wi-Fi?

2. How so no login to the Router? They set it up and now I forget to ask for the password. I found there's user password on the bottom, do they use that during set up?

3. They recommend me getting new Wi-Fi adapter with A.C and I have one in mind, DWA182, should be good for getting close to 500Mbps or DWA192?

They tested my Cat5e and strangely it maxed at about 90mbps
