Hi,

I am new registered Alipay User, planning to use it in China at end of the year.

Today i have tested to pay Alipay at some Chinese restaurant. Then it failed with the attached messages.

I asked the Helpdesk and roughly got a reply. Apparently, this shop Alipay only works with China ID Alipay. Is there any shop in Malaysia where Alipay works for Malaysian? Because i want to test it out.

Talking to the HelpDesk also vomit blood. Suddenly ask me buy train tickets. WTF. I cringe everytime she says "Dear".

The Helpdesk says my account can be use in China....but i am not very confident.

Anyone who has use Alipay here and in China, can share some experience?

Alipay+ should work in China for non peer to peer transfer. I have use it to pay for meals at restaurant and its hit n miss depends on whether its merchant or peer to peer transfer. Weixin pay is more supported but again non peer to peer.

Alipay+ is useful in conjunction with Meituan app for renting cycles and if not mistaken for rental cars and train tickets. I could not get other cycling apps to function. Be certain to install all apps needed when in Malaysia unless used roaming.

Make sure is Alipay+ and not Alipay at merchant though.

I assume you have completed the eKYC process on Alipay app (upload photo of your passport and a selfie)?
If not yet, do it first, wait about 1 hour for them to review your documents. Once it's approved, then try make the QR payment again.
Open Alipay app > Account > tap gear icon on top right corner > Account and Security > Identity Information > follow the instructions there

You said you "plan to use Alipay in China at end of the year, but today you tested using Alipay to make payments 'at some Chinese restaurant'".
Can you clarify that the "at some Chinese restaurant" that you're referring to, is it a Chinese restaurant in Malaysia?

WTF. I cringe everytime she says "Dear".
Reason they use "dear" because it is translated as the Chinese word of "亲", which is their common way of addressing customers in the context of "dear valued customer".

You can only use alipay in China. Cross-border payment (meaning you use alipay in Malaysia) is only for those with mainlaind ID. In other words, you can only test it out when you are in China. I've used alipay in China for years, not much of a problem, except that there are still some merchants who will only accept wechatpay.

I see. I realized you can also book hotel in Alipay using TRIP. Have anyone tried before? If booked using TRIP, means the payment will be done via Alipay once confirmed right?

If you set currency to CNY, then you can pay using alipay. Same goes to Taobao, if you set currency to CNY, you can pay using alipay.

We can use Alipay payment services in China only, not in Malaysia or other country.

Alipay can be use worldwide only applicated for Chinese with mainland ID registered, not passport like us.

Easiest is to have a local merchant Duitnow QR that they can scan and pay with Alipay so u receive in MYR.
If they transfer directly RMB to u in Alipay its a hassle to cash out

In China right now using Alipay. AMA!!

Yesterday used Alipay to ride subway. Very convenient!! Surpisingly at McDonald...i don't know why they want cash only.

Foreign Banks VISA/Master cards are useless here. I have linked Alipay with WISE and a local Bank CC and they works.

Hi,

Can you walk me through how Alipay with Wise work? I've got Alipay linked to Wise and Msian bank CC. So, if I pay using Alipay, the transactions will be directly taken from Wise CNY account? Do we get to choose whether we want to use Wise or CC? Is there any additional transaction charges?

Will be travelling to Hunan province end month and trying to understand how payment works and whether to bring more or less cash.

Thanks.

Your cards already linked then easy.

Go to Account->Setting (top right corner icon)->Payment Settings->Payment Priority order.

WISE works as normal. Always take local currency first, else not enough then auto convert.

If I make a payment of less than CNY 200 via Alipay QR scan, then the exact amount will be deducted from the CNY basket in Wise. If it is more than CNY 200, then additional 3% charges will be taken. Is this correct?

Thanks.
