There are so many brands and design to chose, so how do we pick the right toilet bowl?

1) Identify your toilet bowl is a P or S trap.
Attached Image

2) Measure the outlet distance
P trap or also known as Horizontal outlet (HO) has a standard height of 180mm from floor to the center of the outlet pipe

S-Trap on the other hand is usually 8, 10 or 12" while some old designs do have 20" (rarely)

Here is a sample of how to measure S-trap
Attached Image

3) Type of Flush that you prefer
There are mainly two types of flushing system, Washdown or Siphonic.

4) One Piece or Close Coupled Design
One Piece design refers to the cistern (water tank) and the bowl are connected as one piece. While Close Coupled means, the cistern and bowl are separated.
Attached Image

5) Budget
For RM 1k and above ---> Toto, American Standard, Kohler, Roca (international branded)
for RM 500-1k ----> Johnson Suisse, Sorento, Orin, Modern Depot, GBH (Popular Brands in Malaysia)
For lower budget ----> Inno, Mocha, Sorento

This my be my experience with those small tank water saving models...
They never fully flushed the toilet... after flush... something will come back.. caused the bottom to be dirty.. always have to flush twice...

Old style flusher never have this issue... just my limited tested information.. now this made me hate water saving flusher...

old style flush uses 9L, while all toilet bowls are now designed to be 6L only, hence the power is definitely weaker.

I see many brands advertise water saving, however each flush of water is 6L (standard for all brands). As shown in the video, the Sorento WC flush is quite good but i do agree the old style 9L is stronger

I've always kept to Johnson Suisse, simple reason is it is easy to get parts for when it is time to replace it and quality is fairly good.

The quote is actually from W. Atelier. I asked for recommendation and they recommend me Toto Washlet+ MS636DV model. (Perhaps, I was standing and asking the question at that section - not sure smile.gif) Could not remember the original price, but I believe the discount is rather significant (40% - 50%).

I could not find details of TOTO CW971BA#XW online, other than this website. It will take me another Saturday to visit the showroom to learn its features, so, would be interested why this model interests you.

https://youtu.be/dxP2RxdjDVw Check out the video. I have GG, and it’s better than conventional toilet + washlet. I don’t know about others, but I find conventional toilet + mix and match washlet looks ugly. I’d rather go for fully normal toilet, or anything that comes in a set(like GG or smart toilet) rather than mix and match.

I've been looking for a smart toilet. I've watched a lot of home renovation shows from mainland China. They do have a variety of choices for smart toilets at a fraction of cost as compared to Malaysia. Originally, I was thinking to buy and ship one from China. After thinking through about warranty and all, it may not be a good idea no matter how advanced and CHEAP they are there. I've checked out a number of brands and models and sort of made up my mind to get the RH series from Toto. Is there any other reliable Toto dealers apart from Toto Atelier? The price they offered is enticing but I just wonder if I can get it cheaper elsewhere.

I went to look at a Johnson Suisse Erika WC at a shop (not Builders Hardware), and what bugged me was that the font for the Johnson Suisse logo felt inconsistent.

Should it look more like this?

Is this an indication that Johnson Suisse QC isn't as good these days? Or is the seller selling fake? Or am I just being too nitpicky and worrying over small things...

Would there be a difference in reliability/improvement in flushing etc btwn cheap (eg. Inno) or more expensive models?

I need to replace an old s-trap toilet which has a crack caused by an accident.

I’m a bit confused regarding toilet seat size. In both my parents’ houses (mine and in laws), they both have 2 different sized toilet seats. The one that came with the developer being small size and the ones that they upgraded are obviously bigger.

But the handful of shops that I’ve been to said that there’s no such thing, all toilet seats are same size. It’s just the shape that’s different either round or oval. And the other difference is the distance from the wall to the hole.

Very confusing. I’m 100% certain that there are different size toilet seats.

There is also seat height. I changed brands between old GBH and cheap Inno WC. The GBH is lower.

My ex-office had them.. so far they worked well, and even better if its comfortable (as the seating, height, width etc) are quite personal choices as they should fit the users who use it most.
Just make sure technical spec of (distance from wall) and (waste hole size) match with your installation dimensions then good to go.

I'm curious how to tell the hole distance - Without actually dismantling the toilet bowl, is there a surefire way to know what is the hole distance from wall?

Is there diff hole size (diameter) to be concerned of as well, or the hole is always standard (1 size) only?

depends on the aesthetic of the previous toilet i guess.

some toilet you can clearly see the s bend without dismantling. then just measure from the wall the distance, from wall to middle of the hole would be the distance.

as for hole size it is always 4 inch diameter.

Hi, i just want to share my problem or maybe you can give some advice please . I bought a toilet bowl s-trap livinox brand. This bowl, when flush the water in tank will built up with the waste before slowly discharge away. Some other toilet bowl when flush the water from tank will push the waste to discharge. The problem im facing is this bowl frequently blocked, i think it is because of the design of the discharge method or is there any other reason?

I am about to replace my WC and found this. Great.
Both Johnson Suisse & Sorento can easily find replacement parts?
Can recommend me a budget WC with the following factors:
- Budget < 1k. Cheaper better
- Easy to find replacement parts
- Good quality
- P-trap

Anyone has installer contact and how much is the market price for WC replacement labor cost?

can anyone recommend wc that has water inlet from the top instead of the bottom of the flush tank?

noticed that most modern wc has water inlet from bottom but my experience when flush tank is dirty, the water will backflow into the cold water system of the whole house!

if u have water keep coming in (there is pressure) water cant backflow. Moreover the tank is only 6L, there wont b much pressure to backflow. Moreover water is coming down from the tank, so the tank water cant go against gravity upward into whole house system.

anyway if worry then jus add a one way valve at the inlet

may b old apartment using metal GI pipes, try adding a carbon filter near water meter if possible. BUt if pipes inside your house also metal pipes then no use. I saw some online add for pipe cleaning, that might help.

Hi @zheilwane,

Can I get your advise please. I'm renovating a subsale house which has the WC rough in of 140mm x 3 bathrooms and 170mm x 1 bathroom
I'm trying to avoid relocating the outlet and looking for a WC which is direct S-trap

Instead of relocating the outlet, I was thinking of getting my plumber to insert a 2-3 inch offset pan connector so that the rough in can extend to 200mm.
And I understand that using this method can only be applied to direct S trap and not the more common P-S traps WC's in the market.

Can I get your opinion :
1/ is the 2-3 inch offset pan connector for direct S-trap extending the rough in to 200mm doable/logical?
2/ assuming no 1/ is doable, could you recommend a WC with 200mm set out which is fully covered (ie, back part not exposed) and smooth surface (for easy cleaning)

TQVM!

I order via online. Arrive at my current house. I wonder if this toilet bowl really really fragile? This thing is damn heavy. Scare to move it around would brake it. And I need to move it to another house soon. Any advice on how to move it safely?

Thanks

Seems Toto has the most offering of toilet bowl eh.... and it is pretty premium.

What would be a good alternative for it? I've seen American Standard has some good offering too...

As for Sorento... they are local brand?
any wall hung model? it is worth to install?

many brands hav wall hung model.... but u nid to plan how u gonna install ur wall hung.... like the flushing unit inside a wall? or the flushing unit is actually outside the wall like a 3 inch box infront of the wall?

the latter 1 sure ez for maintenance cuz the whole thing is outside.... but if for look, concealed inside wall is the best in look.... the maintenance is juz the small flush button panel.... think twice....

it is certainly good price and good design

how is the after sales support ? Especially when too much electronics integrated. There is concern the system gone case and no parts to repair and need to hack off the whole unit

Thinking to upgrade my toilet. Looking at rimless back to wall, can be either close-coupled or one-piece.

What's the disadvantage of back to wall as opposed to curved back?

Any other options around the price range of RM1000? I found Johnson Suisse Vicenza and Rigel WC9030F so far to be within range. No one-piece option at this price range found so far

Hi, is it worth getting the rimless toilet bowl? There seems to be more pros than cons compared to normal type. Browsing through the price, it's about the same or cheaper than normal toilet bowl?

depending on the wc quality, some rimless are cheaper than non-rimless, some more exp, so depend which quality u getting. first meassure hole distance only decide what to buy, from what i know most rimless wc are 250mm

means the quality of the WC is lower grade, price of a WC is not because rimless or not, is the material and quality

Had similar preference such as yourself and I finally went with Sorento. Most important like what a poster above said, get the measurements first then only you'd know what brand and model you can get. I renovated my place and 3 of my bathrooms all had different hole distances.

Sorento was the only brand that could work for me. Still had to get 2 different models though.

there is a new wc in town. Sorento SRTWC8122. Tankless design, direct flush system. Traditional WC, water stored in cistern (tank) 6L and some brands 4.5L. SO, the flushing power is only limited to the water stored in tank, there is no way to improve flushing power. With SORENTO direct flush system, flushing strength relies on incoming water pressure, so the stronger the water pressure, the better the flush. Recommended to have 2bar and above.

Here is a demo

Any users of American Standard WC here? I find their designs rather sleek and most reviews overseas boasts about their lifetime durability. But I can hardly find any reviews from homeowners here. Think my concern is more to the ease of spare part availability and after sales.

I believe for Sorento/Johnson Suisse, this is not an issue since these 2 seem to be very common here in our Malaysian household.

Another option would be a commode chair which you can push over the toilet bowl. Useful for bathing elderly as well.

Is the quality of the glazing of Johnson Suisse better than other cheaper local brands like Sorento, GBH...? Its seems to be abit more expensive but is that reflected in the quality?

Between Orin and Johnson Suisse. Which would you say is better quality?
*
it really depends on how much is the WC

Like SOrento got RM 400++ wc and RM 1k++

Johnson Suisse on average RM 600 - 1k

so if u compare RM 400 sorento Vs Johnson RM 900 then sure the material and design also different. If u compare RM 1k sorento Vs RM 900 johnson suisse then is difference story

so i general cannot say Johnson or Orin or sorento is better, nd to compare the models

I am looking for WC and having difficulty.

Currenty shortlisted JS Erika and Sorento 8320 for features like washdown, rimless, urea seat etc

HOWEVER, I have JS at home and Sorento at in-law's, both WC always get sh!t stuck at the top edge. How does these being designed??! I never had these problems in older WCs. How do we really know the models that I choose will not have this problem?

Hope you guys can help me out cos I dont want my wife and kids complaining and blaming me after I completed my reno.

Thanks for listening! smile.gif

Hello, would like some advice.

I'm considering to get this model from your shop to replace my current Orin toilet. I was informed that this has 250mm n 300mm model

How do I measure rough in with an existing toilet installed so that I know which model to buy? The Orin model I have is skirted type so I'm not sure how to find out where the rough in is measured to 🤔

In one of the home fairs i was attracted by Rigel toilet bowl but then found out theirs are of odd measurement s trap (ie not so common) so i skip... You can check up their website if they hv 110-140mm s trap.

Hi, I am looking for a bravat WC to replace my spoilt one. My output hole from the wall is 4.5 inches. Do you have the bravat WC? May I know where is your showroom?

I noticed my rarely used toilet bowl suddenly developed crack and leaking out water from the bottom part. Unknown brand Onano because this was a second hand property. Considering Sorento or Mocha models to replace this. I have experience with Johnson Suisse and even my kid's shit got stuck b4 so I really want to avoid Johnson Suisse. Any suggestions for an affordable but reliable one piece rimless model will be appreciated.

Hi bro, could you recommend me S Trap 300mm/12 inch bowls? To fit the existing S Trap hole. and flush really well.
BTW, repeat customer.

This kinda leak, I think it not the WC issue but the workmanship of the installer, if Im not mistaken

Me too, got to start to hunt for one, as I might be renovating my washroom, soon.
