Actually i also have similar problem where to put my indoor unit. It's an open concept dining - living and I do not want my kitchen to be air conditioned. Both living and dining has its own ceiling fan but aircond in the living area is a must.

There are two options 1 and 2

Cassette unit is not an option.

Have you adjust the airflow louvre permanently to the right?

I did adjust permanently direct to right, but seem like doesn’t help.

like that definitely wont reach the sofa area, unless you put a fan at the side to blow air to sofa.
you can install another aircond beside the curtain.

if u could show the other side of the hall would be better.

Not sure why you follow the contractor suggest to put the aircon in the dinning area. Since you plan to dinning at that area.

It is pretty bad idea unless the aircon is far abit and smaller hp.

Your food cold down fast even before eat and can't enjoy a long dinning.

Option 2 with a partition between living room and kitchen.

May I suggest you get a unit of air cooler... to circulate the air to the tv area.
http://www.sec.com.my/morgan-air-cooler
this is the cheapest solution..

Or add 1 more 1hp aircond above the TV.

Or move the existing aircond to above tv... then use standfan for the dining area...

Even a sliding glass/polycarbonate door can do if want complete isolation of the cold air.

This is a bit out there but......
Make a plastic casing/louver that hangs right in front of the AC outlet, diverting air to the right. I did a flat piece for my AC to divert airflow to the ground because I dont like AC to my face.

1. You have to be creative and design the thing.
2. Any advertising shop (the ones that make billboards) can make anything using glue and transparent plastic. Think custom made cooker exhaust like char kwey teow stall.
3. Hang it with reverse 3M plastic wall hooks (assuming York design has somewhere to latch the hook.
4. It has to be detachable for AC servicing.
5. there will be condensation so dont allow any water collection areas.

Im sorry. Its weird but itlll work.

How big is the area ?

You can install on option 1 or 2.

Option 2 can be lower hp like 1HP. Lower down the horizontal flip and your kitchen will not get the cool.
