QUOTE(dannyw @ Sep 18 2024, 10:23 AM) Too early to tell, bro. Just half a year now. My alternator also China new now, that time at workshop, they unable to get ori. Now my wheel bearing problem, again unable to get ori, even i go few Proton SC to find, so remain China new. My China new alternator just pass 1 year. Hope can last long. Notice old car lot of part Proton no more manufacture, so remain after market and mostly from China, but the box will put 'Made in Malaysia' NTN bearing available, should be good enough.

QUOTE(dannyw @ Sep 18 2024, 09:41 PM) Ya, Few spare part shop that i went no NTN for ABS version. And try call for further shop, price almost same as original RM160 per pc. Maybe i will go for China new oem. Just even that also different shop carry different 1, price + - 10 to 20. Less than RM100, but labour itself already RM60 per side. Maybe i just change the 1 have problem. Did you change before? 1 side or both side? Change both sides. If one is faulty, the other side is bound to be faulty soon.

Guys, old car new problem.
Hear metallic grinding noise coming from the right front side when turning left more than 50km/h. It sounds like something is rotating and grinding. So that leaves to parts that rotates. CV joint/drive shaft looks ok, rubber boot intact.
I'm thinking something with the brakes. Any experience?

QUOTE(inferno_17_85 @ Jan 5 2025, 01:31 PM) Check front lower arm ball joints. If knocking sound when go over bump, then check also front suspension link. Another possibility is your tyre rub against daun pisang. Happens when one of the clip loosen. Turns out both front absorber is leaking. Last change probably like 4 years or 5. Any good brand recommendation? Last time it was the mechanic choose for me some japanese sounding brand. Not KYB.

QUOTE(inferno_17_85 @ Jan 6 2025, 02:49 PM) Need to check front absorber mounting also as the ball bearing can worn out and making noise during turning steering. I'm currently using KYB silver color one. Says heavy duty, i feel stiffer on the ride. So far this one haven't fail me since 188,000km (for front). Rear set just installed for about 10,000km after GAB Super failed at life of 140,000km. Are the front struts interchangeable left and right? pretty sure i got 2x right here.

Does this part looks like made by TCA ? Bought this from trusted seller with physical shop, doesn't have any TCA branding. Googling the part number returns to bunch of other aftermarket like Denco and such. I don't want to be a sucker.

QUOTE(inferno_17_85 @ Jan 10 2025, 02:50 PM) Yeah never heard of TCA brand before. Mounting brand usually RMS or Schmaco. Both ok. KYB one doesn't quite work well for me, maybe my UR bar don't went well with it. Anyway since buy already then use saja la.. Mounting is wear and tear item. TCA brand make mounting stuff. I had them for engine mounting in myvi and this persona previously. Usually comes with their plastic packaging. Just cant believe a manufacturer doesnt do any branding like this. Returned them already.

QUOTE(voscar @ Jan 11 2025, 07:21 PM) Why don't get genuine Proton? OEM cheaper a lot? A lot of the so called genuine proton part are not original. I decided that it is better to find an aftermarket part - one with respectable enough manufacturer to actually brand their product and stand by their name compared to some unknown manufacturer that sell their stuff by using others name. I guess the only way to tells it is original is by buying the ones that is priced right. So to save the headache figuring out if I got a genuine proton or something else, buying an aftermarket is much easier - and cheaper by considerable amount.

QUOTE(inferno_17_85 @ Jan 10 2025, 02:50 PM) Anyway since buy already then use saja la.. Mounting is wear and tear item. Found out that there is actually some quality difference between cheapo no brand and original proton part, even for the small rubber part. One side I use absorber link original proton. The other side bought "mitsubishi" brand super cheap on shopee. 1 year later, the cheap part was reduced to rubbery rot. Proton part is still looking good.

QUOTE(ARMI85 @ Jan 12 2025, 08:02 AM) Agree on this... That is why i normally purchase original Proton parts from well known workshop like Zordaq just to be sure I get the genuine parts... It can last longer but the price is quite expensive compare to the part price you can purchase at Shopee (but difficult to know the quality and reliability) Zordaq sometime share how you can differentiate between original and fake part... And don't get me started about the auto tensioner... tried all brands, cheap aftermarket, more expensive aftermarket, they all doesn't hold a candle to original proton. The only tensioner worth buying is the one priced RM300+

Front absorber KYB silver: RM350 with shopee voucher original proton absorber mounting: RM120 after voucher labor cost: RM100 for both sides. quite shocking because it is a back breaking job, but the shop don't like to put high charges. front and back alignment, including a single what I think front camber bolt RM180. (i'm a regular at this tire shop, guy like to charge RM40 for a single bolt, probably RM80 for both front/back alignment and RM30 for single camber adjustment) Saw that the front headlights starting to have wiring issue with dim light, decided to change to LED with lower wattage but same brightness, change to philip ultinon, RM150 after voucher
Total: RM900
how is your weekend?

QUOTE(voscar @ Jan 18 2025, 08:38 PM) How's Kayaba Silver? Was it very stiff and jumpy for sports car driving type? Havent tested, but it seems like it is on the stiffer side. Or it might just be the previous absorber was leaking and too soft. Tomorrow i drive to work we'll see how.

QUOTE(voscar @ Jan 18 2025, 08:38 PM) How's Kayaba Silver? Was it very stiff and jumpy for sports car driving type? Yeah, its definitely a lot more stiff. I can feel road bumps hits harder. Cornering a lot more solid and somehow makes the driving less fun than before.

QUOTE(Mike3 @ Jan 24 2025, 12:00 PM) This is sharing of a shitty incident happened to me. So i serviced my car 2 weeks back + balancing aligmnent A week after that i noticed slight undercariage sound. Go diagonose at mechanic. he say sound due to drive shaft + wheel bearing (1 biji). He did jack up the car to check for the issue. After change sound still ada. Check and check for another 2 hours next day. Noticed chamber nut not lock properly after aligment. HABIS 700 for early maintenance . Find a good shop for balancing and alignment and stick with that shop is all I can say.... Some shop aim for faster service, I noticed they don't even bother to center the steering wheel. That was the last time I ever went there.

Quick fix with some plastic clipa solves the issue. I didnt bother to check it before, only send to mechanic. Today sound happen when slowly turning left at, immediately saw the daun pisang was not in its place.

QUOTE(AmIRight? @ Mar 17 2025, 12:43 PM) Hi Sifu, would like to ask, my persona sv 2014 use all 4 tyres disk brakes. i hear noise sound when brake, so i go check with mechanic. He told me my front disk calar and my rear disk bengkok. 1. meaning i have to change both all disk fron and rear is it and also change brake pad as well? 2. What brand you recommend and what brand to avoid? Thanks in advance. as i'm in tight budget, only can change disc and brake pad after raya. I fully recommend getting ceramic brake pads from AFI brake, their brand is Ceramate. Uses the same brake pad as gen2. Silent, no dust and consistent braking feel similar to original pads. Dont waste your time with any metallic brake pads that causes a lot of dusts.
