Can anyone confirm can direct via usb?
*
I am not entirely sure what device u meant.

Post a picture... then others can comment.

I think it can becos i have a simple docking station, just usb, works fine, rm120.

That device i saw, and i think it is what u meant, costs rm500 or so.

Something like this...

can we use the usb even though there could be more than 1 hdd inside?

Or do we need to go through samba or LAN...(Never tried before)
*
that is a device more for doing fast backups but will work as an ordinary sata HDD enclosure or docking station.

u can go to IT stores, pick one of a dozen models, rm100-rm300.

those than can take 2.5" sata is very useful - if your portable HDD dies, remove the casing and slot it in.

becos it's usually the sata bridge card that kaputs, not the drive itself.

I wrote about this a few months ago, see post #3367.

Back to my original question, would these be recognized by Himedia Q10pro (without the need of a PC or LAN)?

i have one, works fine.

Hi Sifus, I got an old HIMEDIA Q5II which is still functioning. I would like to seek advice how can i upgrade it as it will be a bit waste to just leave it there since it is still functioning.
*
since nobody answered u there, let me comment here in a more appropriate thread.

himedia q5ii is a well made android box, despite it being 6-7 years old.

if u can tell me what firmware it is on and whether it is an emmc or non-emmc unit, i can say a bit more.

in short, what it can do, like the current q10pro/q5pro:

.. popular apps like youtube, spotify, terrarium, mobdro, tvplus2.0, icdrama rss player, popular "china" vod apps, "ahem" iptv apps.
.. playback of 1080p incl bdmv, dd, dd+, dts, dsthdma; may not do ddtruehd.
.. kodi 16 jarvis.
.. wifi 2.4ghz 50ft.

what it cannot do:

.. hevc (h265), 10bit, 4k, HDR videos.
.. astrogo, unifi playtv.
.. kodi krypton 17.6
.. wifi 5ghz.

these, u need the current Q models.

do not junk q5ii unless u have gone 4k, hdr and dtsx/ddatmos!

HI there,

Thanks for your reply. Hopes to hear from you more
Details as follow

Q5IIENemmc.2001
Android Version : 4.2.2
Kernel Version : 3.4.35_s40

Thanks again
*
this model is an emmc model, a better one than the earlier nand one, i.e. faster.

however, the storage of 8gb... less opsys, partitioning, etc... not that much available for use.

i would advise u to stick to simple apps and not install large complex ones like kodi or torrent based ones like popcorntime.

if u install too many or big ones, the box will get sluggish, even hang.

what i wrote in previous post is based on this box which i have one too.

i am using it mainly for playback (max 1080p) and a couple of apps.

last thing - u did not mention the firmware version - u can see it at the same page u found the rest of the info... "HMD 1.0.9...."

if it is not the last one 1.0.9, best to update.

but will be difficult to find it now - this model is not supported since 2014.

Oic... the version is HMD - 1.0.5 2014-01-13.115811
Please share if you know where i can download the last update.
And what apps actually i can use?
*
1.0.5 is, i think, the first firmware, meaning u had never updated at all!

like i said, it may be hard to get 1.0.9.

a google patch file is also necessary after firmware update to get google services working again.

this firmware is not listed on himedia website since it was not an int'l model.

try contacting your old seller, see if u can get help.

or... maybe some other users can guide u to a right link..?

apps... what apps were u using, what u want?

it can do most popular apps.

finally, if too much trouble for u and u want to get into real action, consider getting a new box.

Anyone still using Q1?

Should I upgrade to lollipop version? Just in case I can find one.

Thanks.
*
i doubt u there is a firmware upgrade to do that.

not with q5ii, not with q16, not with q1.

afaik, all himedia android 4 boxes start and end with 4.

firmware 2.0.8/2.0.9 - fully compatible with astrogo.

Hi guys, I using HiMedia H8 Lite Octa Core (1G RAM+8GB) to play 3D movie ISO 40GB file size. The video able to play by H8 but blank (black screen) screen only, I can hear the audio and subtitle running at the background. Hence my TV could detect 3D signaling sent from H8 and switch my TV into 3D mode automatically.

Tried 2 different files but same result. Is the H8 could not support the latest contents?
*
the videos u tried are probably 10bit which the box can't handle.

your box is entry level, 3-4 years old... time to get a new one!

they have been discussed here and last thread for a long time:

launched 1.5 years ago, firmware is now mature.

H8 lite: blank screen but at least have audio and subtitle
Q5 Pro: blank screen, no audio and no subtitle but seem playing at the back ground.

Checked Q5 firmware via online. It is latest version. I using Pioneer VSX820 with LE830 and it should not handle the TV contents and the HDMI supported 3D

Seriously clueless now sad.gif
*
checked firmware online... u mean u tried to get OTA, it says latest?

OTA doesn't work. go to settings, device info, see what firmware.. if it is not 2.0.9, it is not current.

where did u buy it?

no help from seller?

i will try native player with 2D options tonight to try out again.
At least Kodi + Wrapper is working now, spent a night to troubleshoot hardware piece by piece within small TV cabinet. bangwall.gif
My TV was 3D supported, it can convert 2D to 3D but the picture are bad, the converted 3D almost flat as 2D. sad.gif
But still the best is 3D come from the video file contents and media player itself, seriously nice to view especially snowing scene.
my pioneer VSX820 receiver about 6-7 years old, not sure it can support 3D contents.
I assumed it should can since it don't process the video and pass through.

However unsure whether HDMI cable itself effecting the output quality.
H8 - no video, but have audio and subtitle thru AV receiver with same HDMI cable
Q5 - no video, no audio and no subtitle thru AV receiver with same HDMI cable

This receiver is fully capable of passing through 3D signals and meets the latest HDMI specification.

from what u hv said so far, i think the problem is with file-AVR.

yr AVR is a bit old, hdmi 1.4, may have problems with 30/50/60fps videos.

if u connect q5pro-tv and it works, it implies AVR problem.

u can try some other file types with 24/23.976 fps, see what happens.

hdmi CABLE is usually not a problem and they can deal with most ripped file signals.

it is unclear to me if u r using native or kodi or kodi+wrapper.

if u open up wrapper and set it to kodi, it means wrapper not in use; set it to wrapper, it means when using kodi, it sends the data to native player to play.

try using native direct (file manager or media center), play around with picture settings from remote.

In fact I could no identify which is 3D half SBS sweat.gif
Usually I will go for 40GB file only for good movies and normally nothing happen till last few days ago.

My AV could not update firmware, simply a basic AV thay 7 years old which not that high tech yet. But sharp TV could update the firmware and unsure I should try it or not.
Actually I not idea what the function of wrapper.

Since U highlight any wrapper, I simply do changes this morning, selected "Kodi Player" and TV could display in 2D at least. If I choose back "Wrapper Player" which seem required username password (for Samba?) and not contents display at TV at all.

I tried to play 3D iso from media center native player but could not show content too. Later I will limit the native player to playback in 2D only.
*
if u r using media center or file manager to do playback, the native player is in use, wrapper is irrelevant.

the wrapper (set to wrapper player) is used with kodi app to get artwork, photos, but actual playback is channeled back to native player.
kodi app has its own player - this player is used if "wrapper set to kodi player".
no need id/pw etc... that is for something else.

from what u describe, i think u r using the native player direct and not kodi or kodi+wrapper.
which is correct.
but u can try using kodi to playback, see if any different.

sorry if u r not getting progress with this 3D thing.
i can only try to help by pointing out what may be wrong.
i never do 3D, tv not 3D.

i got Q5 trying to watch YouTube 4K.. done  reset all..still unable to stream 4K YouTube here... highest possible is 1080@60p

isit becoz of HDMI (need above 1.4A?) or any sideload APK YouTube?

my internet is 30Mbps..
*
the default youtube version can't do 4k.

u need a diff version.

try this latest one:
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/yo...d-apk-download/

when u play a 4k video, go to stats for nerds, u can read current / optimal resolutions.

*
it is 3840x2160.

if it is not, u won't see "current" at 3840x2160 - try some other videos to verify.

but u will not see HDR... can't do. i do not know which box or smart tv can do 4k HDR for youtube.

viewport is just the resolution of the UI - just about all boxes have UI in 1080p, not in 4k.
