Either you did not own a credit card, rich and don't giv a damn about money at all or u r a loyal supporter of some political party.

LGE in particular isn't suppose to re-introduce this tax.

1st because he himself oppose it in 2009. WHAT GROUND does he have to re-introduce this credit card tax instead?

2ND this tax is INTRODUCED by JIBBY in 2009 when it has been abolished for 10 YEARS!!
So this is as good as a JIBBY TAX!!

So if you hate jibby so much and oppose the tax back then in 2009.
WHY on earth did you re-introduce this same fxxking tax when u become the minister? mad.gif  mad.gif  mad.gif

I did not oppose the small charge on cc.....it was necessary to control consumer debt from abuse of the cc....

Normally, the bank should be the party to control cc ownership by eligibility control....but of course the bank will not....they make the most from cc debt....

If you cannot afford RM25 or 50 to own a cc....don't.
.. cashless payment system is just as easily implemented via debit cards....

the responsibility of controlling personal debt lies with the consumer themselves.
if they choose to abuse the credit card to max credit limit buying luxuries they hardly needs, eventually leading to bad debts.
that is they bearing their own fruits.

A gov don't need to collect a RM25 tax and giving reason the RM25 tax will curb irrational credit card spending.
this is pure utter bullsxxt!

Come on!! Don't talk about affordability on a mere RM25 or RM50.
Do you think a mere RM25 per year will prevent people that tends to overspend on their credit card become discipline in card usage?
And do you think people with loads of card debts are able to cancel their card without clearing off the outstanding balance?
Of course they are forced to pay the RM25 tax to "save the nation" as they called it.

And people coming out with a statement like you "cashless payment system is just as easily implemented via debit cards"
obviously did not use debit card.
Did you ever try pumping petrol using debit card at petrol island?

From the responses here, it appears making a small charge works reasonably well to deter excessive cc ownership....lol

And of course you can pump petrol....debit cards are now mostly visa/MC based....works exactly like cc.....

That's not my point.
I'm not sure whether you did use a debit card for petrol before

take your debit card and go pump RM10 at any petrol station island.
And now check your savings account balance and see how it goes.

As for cc, they block off 200, then after pumping, take the pumped amount unblock the rest...

If you don't want to get the 200 blocked, go to the counter and prepay a fixed amount....it be be deducted from your account as with any other DC purchases...

Yes they do....

And why is going to counter defeating "purpose" of using cards?....you don't go to supermarket and pay at the shelf....you go to check out counter....

Card payment at pump does not exist in many countries, including those with strong cashless payment system....eg Australia.... everybody pumps and go pay at the counter....

Because it waste time when you could have use at the pump
In my experience they don't.
Even when pay at pump not working.

If can pay at shelf, I would. Got such option?

while cashless payment is the ultimate objective....Payment systems still have to be secure....one way to hasten payment is self check outs as in commonly found in UK and Oz....some service stations in oz are already trying unmanned pumping and payment....

I'm wondering if the card issuers will absorb this fee to attract the existing and potential CC users, since they did so before during Bijan time.

Not sure what you are trying to say.... when the BN gov introduced the charge on cc ownership, I agreed it was necessary to control private debt, especially cc debt....I disagreed with the opposition and LGE opposing it....

Now the pH gov LGE wants to introduce the same, I agree it's a necessary measure to control proliferation of cc....

So who am I protecting?

First cc should be free and each cc should be charged 25, 50, 75, 100, 125 respectively.

Why impose such ridicule measures to punish those financial mismanagement individual on those who know how to manage the debt well?

I am utterly disappointed if this is true
