This gives the links https://www.snbforums.com/threads/about-asu...s-routers.7846/

The latest firmware for AC68U https://sourceforge.net/projects/asuswrt-me..._2.zip/download

Download the zip file, unzip, read 'readme - merlin.txt'. These are the flashing instructions:

CODE
Installation
------------
Simply flash it like any regular update.  You should not need to
reset to factory defaults (see note below for exceptions).
You can revert back to an original Asus firmware at any time just
by flashing a firmware downloaded from Asus's website.

If the firmware upgrade fails, try rebooting your router to free
up sufficient memory, without any USB disk plugged in,
then try flashing it again.

NOTE: resetting to factory default after flashing is
strongly recommended for the following cases:

- Updating from a firmware version that is more than 3 releases older
- Switching from a Tomato/DD-WRT/OpenWRT firmware

If you run into any issue after an upgrade and you haven't done so,
try doing a factory default reset as well.

Always read the changelog, as mandatory resets will be mentionned
there when they are necessary.

In all of these cases, do NOT load a saved copy of your settings!
This would be the same thing as NOT resetting at all, as you will
simply re-enter any invalid setting you wanted to get rid of.  Make
sure to create a new backup of your settings after reconfiguring.

The firmware file is RT-AC68U_386.3_2.trx, in your router web interface - Administration - Firmware Upgrade - Manual Firmware Update: click 'upload' and select the file.

I've used both without a problem so no recommendation.

You're quite a long way behind on the updates so after flashing, you may want to do a factory reset and configure fresh.

I think so although never tested, the other routers I'm using don't support Aimesh.

So you bought a TM-AC1900 that had already been converted to an AC68U?

Not very technical person here. But when I was upgrading my asusmerlinwrt from 374.xx to 381.xx. I had to first flash one of the key firmwares between. I think it was 380.xx. Failing to do so would result in it reverting to 374.xx.

All the best.

Upgrading to 386. takes some time as the database is updated.

Also refresh your browser (shift - reload)

It should reboot and show the login page but it may take some time.

After you login again, you may need to refresh the browser cache (shift - reload) to see the correct information.

The only problems I've experienced upgrading was a 'Invalid Firmware Upload' that was solved by using a different browser/PC to do the update. I keep up to date with the releases (I'm running the latest alpha firmware ATM), so I don't have experience of big jumps in version - between 384. to 386. there are significant changes.

You could also try the Asus firmware restoration utility to flash https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1000814/

I've successfully update using Vivaldi, Firefox, Chrome on Windows and Linux both ethernet & WiFi. The one time I received the invalid firmware message from the router, I was running Linux.

No harm in trying any of these

Yes

btw if you have a USB flash drive plugged into your router, try removing it before flashing.
