hi guys

im a newbie with this........so i wanna ask, how much does a BOSS one cost?

i wanna get a Overdrive/Distortion.

any extra tips would be nice

using a squier start and a roland micro cube btw

What sound are you trying to achieve?
Metallica? Guns & Roses?
Classic Rock?
Metal?

i think a good all rounder would be the boss ds-1 but don't expect too much out of it if you're looking for a deep metal crunch.

the distortions on the microcube are good enough.
you dont need a extra pedal.

but switching sound using a foot pedal is so much easier than switching using an amp switch . i think that's why most people would choose a compact pedals instead of amp distortions. imagine playing "fade to black" and having to switch from clean to dist using your amp. . unless of course the amp has a foot pedal switch jack.

yeah... i've tried one of those suckers too... you can get nice sounds out of it...

i also saw a similar amp by vox but it's RM200 more though.... haven't tried that one yet...

how do ya do distortions on the micro cube??

and also.......im not looking for a very deep metallic sound

Try selecting Classic Stack or R-fier amp models and turn up to gain...

doesnt that create abit of feedback?

feedbacks arent good for the amps and guitars right?

feedback as in the humming? my amp like gonna pao cha with humming

i love feedbacks...always like to point my pickups towards my amp to get the feedback...

i get crazy feedback if i turn any EQ knobs on my amp above 8 oclock

That humming you hear..... congratulations. You just found your overdrive/distortion.

Feedback is your friend if you're playing metal.... heck, Jimi was looking for ways to get MORE feedback from his amps.

Overdrive or distortion is literally what it means....

Overdrive means you push the drive past it's limit, breaking up it's sound.

Distortion is pushing it even further until it distorts the sound.

If you buy an effects pedal, you'll get the same thing as turning on the overdrive/distortion on your microcube.

i just had a jamming session at my work place (in the meeting room using the PA system) and we plugged the micro cube into the the PA... it sounded decent enough.... i'd recommend the sucker to anybody... how much nowadays ha? 500 bucks is it?

mine is ok when i turn it on but the minute i hit my pedal it explodes

i did try visual sounds' jekyll and hyde pedal a few years back. it was awesome since it had really good tones for both overdrive and distortion. it's a bit pricey though... and i'm not sure where to get it here in malaysia but i did saw it reviewed once in the star...

The VS JnH have some reliability issues though. The switch craps out after some time, and it's the most expensive part of the pedal to replace.

But I believe the newer ones have been rectified of this problem. Just be sure it isn't NOS.

What's the difference between a ds-1 and ds-2? Which one is actually a better buy? I'm still considering the two of these.

The DS2 is more versatile with its extra mode though.

Anyone interested in custom stompboxes? Got a friend who can do the circuits...currently almost done with Big Muff and Proco Rat clones.

Pricewise...around RM 300 for 1 stompbox. This includes an aluminium enclosure, true bypass, metal footswitch (like MXR pedals), can be powered by either 9v battery or DC jack.

I have the DS2 but I think both the DS-1 and DS-2 sound differently with each other. The DS-2 seems like a 'digital' fuzz pedal to me while the DS-1 has at least a little more warmth to the sound. Then again I can't be sure as I haven't played either pedals for years now!

Nonetheless the DS-2 has a very distinctive sound, Kurt Cobain used it this song... couldn't rmb which but it has a very cutting and almost fuzz-like tone. IIRC, he used the DS-1 on Teen Spirit.

Saw quite some guys in sg using this pedal. Cheap and does the job.

how would you compare it to the MT2 ?
never had a chance to do so.
its slightly cheaper than the MT2 only, like rm40 difference
