Bangladesh more likely choose China over other competitors. Their newest MBT is MBT-2000 VT-1A (aka Al-Khalid MBT used by Pakistan) and their upgraded Type-69 II MBTs also using Chinese upgrade package kits.

I think still for sure Bangladesh choose VT-5 Light Tank. Their Army is literally built up by China.

FIRST HERMES 450 UAV FOR THE PHILIPPINE AIR FORCE SCHEDULED TO ARRIVE SOON

It is an exciting time for the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) as the Horizon 2 phase of the Revised AFP Modernization Program (RAFPMP) has finally come early this year. But what is even more exciting is that fruits of the program can be had earlier than expected. This, considering  defense contracts of select few projects under the Horizon 2 phase were only signed a few months ago.

Actually, this is the air asset that was suppose to arrive on August 2018. This blog entry was pushed back as MaxDefense found out from sources from several government agencies and the military, that the Department of Budget Management was delayed in releasing the funds, thus the manufacturer cannot deliver as per original schedule.

The mystery aircraft is no other than the Elbit Systems Hermes 450 medium altitude long endurance unmanned aerial vehicle (MALE UAV), which is part of the Hermes 450 Unmanned Aerial System (UAS).


This is the actual Hermes 450 UAV that is bound for the Philippine Air Force, as shown during a demonstration and inspection in Israel recently. It would be applied with PAF colors and markings prior to delivery hopefully within the year.

Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI / TUSAŞ) organized the "Day of TAI-Indonesia Industry Cooperation" in the Capital City of Jakarta to promote products and enhance cooperation.

Head of Marketing and Communication Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) Tamer Ozmen told Anadolu Agency at the event, it wanted to develop cooperation with Indonesia; developing countries in the region, have a Muslim population of around 90 percent and always increase bilateral cooperation with Turkey, especially in the defense industry.

Ozmen said that his arrival in Indonesia to participate in a tender for the Indonesian unmanned aircraft project, and Turkey was one of four countries involved.

Public need not worry over air defence assets, says RMAF

SUBANG, Aug 21— The public need not worry over the national air defence because overall, the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) assets can still be used, says RMAF’s 11th Squadron Operations Division chief Lt Kol Faisal Abu Bakar.

“In general, our air force is strong and the assets are in good condition. So the general public do not have to fear or think that we have inadequate military assets or that the RMAF is weak,” he told Bernama when met after the EX HOP exercise ) between the RMAF and the Indian Air Force (IAF) here today.

He added that the RMAF assets and operating system could be safeguarded more effectively with additional budget from the government.

“Some of the military assets are already 10 years old and they need to be well-maintained to last longer. So an extra budget from the government would be good.”

He said this when asked to comment on the capabilities of the RMAF assets, including fighter jets which had been poorly maintained due to lack of provisions.

Tulpar light tank completes initial trials, awaits first contract

Otokar has completed initial firing and mobility trials of its latest Tulpar light tank, which has been developed to meet potential requirements of at least two export customers.

This system mates the Otokar Tulpar tracked armoured fighting vehicle (AFV) with the Belgian CMI Defence Cockerill 3105 turret already in quantity production for Saudi Arabia (with more than 130 turrets delivered).

The Cockerill 3105 turret is armed with a 105 mm high-pressure rifled gun fitted with a thermal sleeve and fume extractor. The 105 mm gun is fed by a bustle-mounted automatic loader that enables the turret to be crewed by just a commander and gunner.

It also has a 7.62 mm co-axial machine gun (MG) and a bank of electrically operated smoke grenade launchers on either side.

In addition to firing conventional rounds of 105 mm ammunition – including armour piercing fin stabilised discarding sabot (APFSDS), high-explosive anti-tank (HEAT), and high-explosive squash head (HESH) – it can also fire a Falarick gun-launched anti-tank guided missile (GATGM) developed in Ukraine. This is laser guided and fitted with a tandem HEAT warhead to neutralise targets fitted with explosive reactive armour (ERA), and has a maximum range of 5,000 m.

The weapon has a computerised fire-control system and stabilised sighting systems, including stabilised sights for commander and gunner consisting of day/thermal channels and a laser rangefinder.

The Tulpar light tank has a crew of three – commander, gunner, and driver – but there is additional space in the rear for two dismounts and more 105 mm ammunition.

Tulpar was developed by Otokar as a private venture to meet the potential requirements of the export and home markets. It was first shown in 2013 in the infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) role and fitted with an Otokar Mizrak remote-controlled turret. The turret was armed with a stabilised 30 mm dual-feed cannon with 210 rounds of ready-use ammunition and a 7.62 mm co-axial machine gun (MG) with 500 rounds of ready-use ammunition.

3 other nations willing to supply diesel-electric submarines to PH

MANILA -- Aside from Russia, three other countries have expressed interest to supply the Philippine Navy with diesel-electric submarines.

"We are now studying the offers of (South) Korea, France and if I'm not mistaken, Indonesia as well," Department of National Defense spokesperson Arsenio Andolong said in an interview with reporters Wednesday, noting that all three have shipyards and facilities capable of constructing diesel-electric submarines.

No other details are available, Andolong said.

Earlier, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said Russia is willing to provide advanced versions of its Kilo-class submarines to the Philippines through "soft loans" but clarified that the country is still looking for other sources.

Kilo-class submarines have a surface displacement of 2,350 tons, a length of 73.8 meters and capable of speeds up 17 to 20 knots and can be armed with a variety of torpedoes, missiles and naval mines.

It has a cruising range of about 6,000 to 7,500 nautical miles. In the ASEAN region, Vietnam is known to operate six improved Kilo-class submarines in its fleet.

Lorenzana earlier said that for an island nation like the Philippines, defense could be considered incomplete without a fleet of submarines.

"For a nation with maritime territory, especially (an) island nation, its national defense is incomplete without (a) submarine," he added.

The defense chief also said that an effective active submarine force is a great deterrent for would-be aggressors due to its capability to travel underwater unseen, giving it the element of surprise.

A submarine force is a great morale booster to the Armed Forces of the Philippines, he added. (PNA)

Indonesia in the near future will order from Russia self-propelled anti-tank cannons "Sprut-SDM1", said the executive director of Kurganmashzavod, who designed and produced the machine, Peter Tyukov.

"Sprut SDM1" can be both amphibious and floating, it has a very good armed component.

Our armored car turned out to be very successful, Rosoboronexport will conclude a contract with Indonesians in the near future, "he said."

Earlier, a number of countries of South-East Asia showed interest in Sprut-SDM1.

Mat Sabu: More than 4 Russian jets expected for National Day parade

KUALA LUMPUR: The public can expect to see more Russian fighter jets take to the sky for the National Day parade.

Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu has indicated that more than four of the 28 Russian jets would be flying on the day, though he didn't specify how many.

"They are in operation. You can see on Merdeka Day how many will be flying. I will leave you in suspense till then," he joked during a press conference following the Defence Ministry assembly at Wisma Pewira on Tuesday (Aug 28).

It had been reported in July that only four out of the 28 Russian fighters jets owned by the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) were fit to take to the skies.

The Defence Minister was quoted then as saying that the RMAF had 18 Russian-made Sukhoi Su-30MKM and 10 MiG-29 jet fighters.
