^^ Plan every year 3 units to be ordered. Bakamla ordered 3 units OPV 80M in 2017. Another 3 units OPV 60M and 6 units Fast Patrol Boats to begin construction in 2019.

QUOTE

Walk Like An Egyptian, Part 2

Malaysia -RMN

SHAH ALAM: Walk Like An Egyptian, Part 2. In an earlier post, I reported that Egypt may well beat Malaysia in getting their first Gowind corvette. And indeed it had happened as the Egypt Navy took delivery of its first Gowind corvette last year.

Now it appears that Egypt will be the first to take delivery of its local built corvette as the first one built at its own shipyard was launched yesterday.

Port Said corvette as her launching ceremony. Naval Group

Normally it will take at least two years after launch, to get a ship commissioned though as El Fateh is already in service, it is likely the second in class, first locally built, can be put into service earlier. One can take comfort that our own LCS is a bigger variant that the Egyptian corvettes which is probably the reason it had taken longer for the first vessel, Maharaja Lela, to conduct its harbour and sea trials.

As reported previously, Boustead Naval Shipyard is expected to conduct harbour trials for Maharaja Lela, late this year with sea trials expected in March, 2019, just in time for the ship to take part in LIMA 2019.

I am told that the schedule will be kept but its disconserting to hear talks around the industry that BNS was having difficulties with the project. I am told that the six BAE Systems 57mm guns are being prepared for delivery to Malaysia at the very moment.

Btw, how do they decide on the numbering? Pennant/hull/tail number etc..

Any conventions/traditions? 🤔
*
Iinm...numbering based on classes of ship. Number begin with:
#3 - Corvettes & Frigates
#4 - Submarines
#5 - Amphibious Vessels (LPD & LST)
#6 - Fast Attack Missile Boats
#7 - Mine Sweepers
#8 - Fast Patrol Boats
#9 - Supply & Replenishment Vessels, Hospital ships and Survey Vessels.

Turkish-Indonesian KAPLAN medium tank

The Philippines and Bangladesh are likely to order about 100 KAPLAN medium tanks which are co-produced by Turkish defense contractor FNNS and Indonesia's PT Pindad.

Windu Paramata, the head of the medium tank project at PT Pindad said the two countries had expressed willingness to buy 40 to 50 units each.

"In October, we will be demonstrating medium tanks there, as a condition for the procurement of defense equipment in their countries," Paramata told Anadolu Agency on Friday.

Paramata said the Indonesian Ministry of Defense was considering purchasing the KAPLAN tanks and ministry was still evaluating the number of units to be procured.

Paramata said the Indonesian Army's Research and Development Agency had certified the medium tank earlier this year.

Paramata praised the Turkish-Indonesian battle tank as featuring the most recent technology in the global defense industry.

Butterworth airbase to stay, says Affendi

By Shamsul Munir Safini - September 8, 2018 @ 3:41pm

BUTTERWORTH: The airbase here is still relevant and will continue to remain a strategic location for the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF).

Air Force chief General Tan Sri Affendi Buang said talks by surrounding residents that the airbase would be relocated was untrue.

“There is no security issue and the airbase will continue to remain where it is. This airbase is still very much relevant,” he said when met at the RMAF Open Day 2018 here today.

It was previously reported that the airbase in Teluk Air Tawar here would be relocated to make way for a development project.

On Feb 5, 2014, TSR Capital Bhd received then Barisan Nasiaonal Federal Government’s approval in principle to negotiate on the proposed terms for the relocation and reconstruction of the new base in Ara Kuda, about 14km away, through a land swap deal.

Affendi said he and Deputy Defence Minister Senator Lim Chin Tong would ensure that the airbase was maintained as it was still very much needed.

According to him, programmes such as the RMAF Open Day would provide an opportunity for the locals to see for themselves the assets and roles played by air force personnel in taking care of the safety and sovereignty of the country.

“Many are unaware of the roles played by the air force and today they will get to witness first hand and mingle with the pilots and other personnel here,” he said, adding it would also encourage young people to join the numerous positions available in the air force.

"Pesawat Hercules sejak tahun 1960 an. Pak Jokowi bilang, pesawatnya sudah tua," kata Menhan.

Dalam pertemuan dengan James Mattis itu, kata dia, Indonesia juga berencana akan membeli helikopter Chinook.

"Sebelumnya Mabes TNI ingin membeli Heli Mi-26, namun heli ini tidak layak untuk operasi. Karena dengan jarak 100 meter, hempasan baling-baling bisa menyebabkan genteng-genteng rumah warga bertebangan," katanya.

Indonesia plans to acquire Sprut-SDM1 SPATGs, says Kurganmashzavod chief

Nikolai Novichkov, Moscow - IHS Jane's Defence Weekly
10 September 2018

The Indonesian military is planning to procure the Russian-made 2S25M Sprut-SDM1 air-droppable self-propelled anti-tank gun (SPATG), Pyotr Tyukov, the executive director of manufacturer Kurganmashzavod, told Russian TV broadcaster Zvezda on 5 September.

"The Sprut-SDM1 features amphibious capabilities and is heavily armed. A contract with Indonesia for this SPATG will be signed soon," Tyukov said without specifying the number of guns to be procured by Jakarta.

A Kurganmashzavod source told Jane's that the manufacturer "sees a potential for the promotion of the vehicle in the arms markets of several Asian and Middle-Eastern countries".

The latest variant of the Sprut-SDM1 was displayed at the Army 2018 defence show held in Kubinka near Moscow in August.

The Indonesian Air Force (TNI-AU) is willing to provide pilots and technicians to support flight operations of the Airbus Defence and Space A400M airlifters to be acquired by state-owned enterprise (SOE) PT Perusahaan Perdagangan Indonesia (PPI), commonly known as the Indonesia Trading Company, the service announced on its website in early March.

The announcement was made following a meeting between TNI-AU chief of staff, Air Marshal Yuyu Sutisna, and PPI president director Agus Andiyani in the PPI office in Jakarta. The statement highlighted that PPI, a logistics and distribution company, will operate two A400Ms that will be used to deliver goods to the less accessible regions in East Indonesia to tackle price disparity.

a lot of thing can play into that decision. from my point of view, in strategic way having additional strategic airlifter ie A400 which can land on beach(seach on youtube) would be a good start if there is an emergency in play such as natural disaster. basically, the plane will be an first emergency responder with trained staff while waiting for ship . cargo ship or LST will be send after that as it take a lot of time to get ready and arrive to destination.

the best example for this is looking back at Malaysia during sulu invasion as c130 arrive first with equipment and gear while other heavy machinery will arrive with cargo.

in economic view,i dont know what Indonesia trying to do. to me their CASA/IPTN CN-235 good enough just add the ability to land on beach. plus it is cheaper and cost effective. although it have less cargo load than A400 but its doable.

who know what the top leader thinking. maybe they see other factor in play thus resulting in that decision.

Actually i would prefer PT Perusahaan Perdagangan Indonesia (PPI) to buy the Lockheed Martin new LM-100J rather than the A400M.
