Hello lowyat folks.

Im getting a new Myvi Advance soon.. Im just wondering if its an acceptable move to change the current tyres / rims to a bigger one. Example 16 inch.

Im new to this, i probably dont know much about cars.. Its going to be my first car. All this while had been using Grab for transportation.

Appreciate if you folks could advise me on this.

myvi come with 14 inch rim. Normal upgrade is go to 15inch rim with good street tires. Normally people avoid 16inch because the tire price close to 17 inch. Unless you want to spend abit extra on tire and don't mind performance drop. eg. poorer acceleration and braking power.. go ahead and upgrade to 16-17 inch tire..

With bigger rim like 16 or 17 inches, you will need lowering springs to pair with the looks, if not your car will look like 4x4 pickup truck. In return, this will cause your rear to rub if you fetch 5 people in your car, and depends on what brand of lowering springs u go for, it might be a harsher ride..

U want look or power? If look, 18 inch also can but FC and performance slow as hell. If power, keep it stock and opt for wider rims with better tyres.

New Myvi potential enemies now is new Vios and Iriz. Both can hit 190kph easily.

15" to 16" is a major price jump in tire prices. Unless you are really keen on the look, just go as high as 15". Beyond that there isn't much to gain in terms of performance for your Myvi, and definitely will be less comfortable.

New myvi advance comes with 15inch rims so I think upsize to 16inch make sense.

To TS, to answer your question yes you can swap to 16inch rims. A few considerations to note

1. Look for the tyre size you want to swap. From tire calculator, the most suitable size is 195/45R16 as it has the least radius differences compare to original tyre. So you have to find out is this size easily available and what brand/model available in the market. Of course you can opt for other size but then the difference will be bigger and it will impact your odometer, FC, etc. try to keep as close as possible to the original radius.

2. The weight of the new rims + tyre should not differ much from the original rims + tyre. This means maybe you need to opt for original japan rims instead of Taiwan copy. Again, matching closely to manufacture spec is the best.

3. Myvi adv comes with ASA. From my reading, you’ll need to resend your car back to Perodua for recalibration. Please check with your nearest Perodua centers.

4. Swapping to lower profile tyre (55 to 45) will definitely have impact on comfort. Don’t expect the same comfort as original specs.

In summary, you’ll want to keep the spec as close as original from Perodua as that is the most optimized for your car (comfort, FC, power). A lot of time people just swap without these considerations and then complain the car is not comfortable, no power, FC increase, etc. of course it will as the car are optimize for the original spec, not to the upgrade being done by user. So there will always have drawbacks whether its comfort, power or FC. It’s you to decide which one you can live without. Anyway I’m a myvi g3 advance user as well, please share your findings in case in the future I decided to upgrade the wheels as well 😁😅
