I am planning to upgrade to Intel Core 2 Duo E6600, but looking at the price drop I am reluctant to buy it now. For reference, Intel Core 2 Duo E6600's price in the respective months,
RM 1160 in April 07 RM 815 in May 07
That's around RM300 drop in a month! Just how much further will CPU's price drop? Can anyone shed some light into my question? Thanks.

QUOTE(emilz @ May 22 2007, 03:35 AM) wallau again ar intel will slash their proc price huhuhu will kering my pocket again for quad core if ur current cpu is c2d, i dont think u shuld upgrade to that c2q. as it wont offer any performance differences if u didn run any software that take full advantage of it. and there are hardly any games/software which is design for quad core. anyway, expect cpu to drop further end of this year. i believe it will be as much as 50percent for c2q. since there will be competition from amd quad core as well. my advice is that, wait for amd quad core on the market 1st, baru u start thinking of the c2q. coz it will get super cheap by then.

Thanks for all the info. I am currently using Pentium 4 3.0GHz (bought less than a year ago). Judging from all the infos gathered, I should probably hold on for my CPU upgrade. I am not planning to get quad core processors, those are a little over the top for me. C2D E6600 (or C2D E6700 is another choice) seems to be a reasonable upgrade for my PC.

You really can't ask such question because prices of PC components will always keep on dropping until they are phased out (THEN the prices will increase due to shortage!).
In computers, you can only wait so much before you upgrade. Depends on how "patient" you are and what your needs are .....

I think it would be kinda pointless to wait. New thing keep coming in and the more u wait, new generation proc will appear and at that time, do u wan to go for wat u called it now Pentium 4. unless they goin drop price in a month or 2, wait then, or else, buy it now.

Yes, Penryn USD266 to be exact, both models E6850 (new model) and Q6600 will be at the same price after next Thunder slash...

QUOTE(EmperorMeng @ May 22 2007, 11:12 AM) will come out new power one tht is more expensive... i dont think so... look at this... E6750 which is better than E6600 is more cheaper. now the question is, whether it works on LGA755 with P965 chipset. and how good is the perfomance, i mean in overclock ability. as the bigger FSB. Im still in dilema because E6750 is way lot more cheaper than E6600. is it good for me just to wait or quickly grab E6600 and wait for the E6750 to drop price again? 22 jully is not a long wait. i think. 200+ save... any point?.... help me.

if Intel tend to slash again the price of c2D, I'm wonder how much AMD X2 will cost after that... And yet this is a never ending war of price between this two great manufacturer... for TS, wait and wait, soon ur current system will be no more value after that, better upgrade now and sell off ur current rig, you can get some money to topup for the upgrade... One downside to Intel's price drop. AMD may lose the race entirely!!! Then there will be no competition and Intel's monopoly will drive up prices again! Could this be a possibility? So far, AMD has nothing yet to compete with Intel...... Competition is good so let's hope that AMD has an answer!

but now is still cheapest dual core is AMD's region, as low as rm240 u can own athlonx2 3600. Intel E4300 still need rm350 (bulk), and Intel mobo is usually more expensive, due to the memory controller being chipset dependant for intel mobo, some cheapo intel mobo will have performance degradation. so i think, in the lower price segment, amd still wins. But with budget higher than rm400 might as well venture into intel.
