The mode in the demo is equivalent to "Easy" since it was a demo originally made for exhibitions and show floors.

Anyone know if there are any local importers bringing in the R1 physical Deluxe Edition? So far I only see stores with preorders for the standard version.

The auto mode in every DMC SUCKS. Hate auto combos. If they really wanted to ease newbies into the combat, they just need to do make auto mode have a larger frame input for each move so that even noobs can do just frame moves fairly easily. That's all that is needed.

Auto combos and hand holding isn't going to help a newbie to get better at all and actually create bad habits.

Loving every moment of it . Had a blast playing thru the first few chapters last night , the airtight control is nothing less than impressive .

Oh that Jazz version of Devil Trigger from the pre-order theme is just too sweet .
A strong candidate of 2019's GOTY for sure.

Looks really good on PS4 PRO as well , check out the DF 's latest analysis

There is also a problem with the default brightness setting for SDR mode , washed out and cloudy black levels with very severe shadow details crushing.
On HDR compatible TVs, the game seems to be able to detect your HDR TV and give them a default value , which works flawlessly .

Can't wait to marathon the game throughout the weekend. Didn't pick up the review copy for this.

I was skeptical of him at first but right now I still can't believe how incredibly well he is integrated into a fast paced action game.

I was worried that he may be a little too passive , too out of space with all the pet controls but it is nothing like that. You do have to watch the pets health and DT bar more often playing as him .
Never run out of things to press controlling him , look at the pets and arsenal at his control , leave your golem to rampage along with excellent set of air attacks from the birdie , he is just so very versatile . Oh he can even glide in the air !

Everytime his hair turned white be assured your screen will explode into a chaotic mess , in the most magnificent way .

Long time DMC fans already know the origins of V's familiars.

Those that don't know, here:

Anyways, took the weekend to finish the game and on the whole; I'm really, really impressed and glad that DMC is back the way it should be. Love the game mostly.

+ The most important thing, the combat system - is amazing. Thank the lord sparda that capcom didn't simplify the combat. It's easy enough for beginners to pick up and have fun, yet still very deep for the veterans. It's a return to form and I'm so glad that REAL action-adventure games are back.

----

+ Still loving Nero's exceed system, took me a few missions to be nailing the timing for 3 bars exceed again but holy shit is it satisfying to pull that off in a middle of a combo. His Devil Breaker arm is a pretty refreshing mechanic and I quite honestly, I think it works better than just his plain old Demon Arm back in DMC4 (I'll speak more about the arm again after more people have finished the game though). I just wish that we could manually switch the arm in-game instead of forcefully destroying it. Imagine the combo possibilities opening up otherwise!

+ Dante has so many moves, yet the one crucial thing that Capcom didn't do like in DMC4 was to cram everything into his arsenal. You see, being able to customize his loadout is such a nice touch, you want 2 melee weapons and 2 range weapons like in DMC3? You got it! You want everything and the kitchen sink like in DMC4? Go ahead! You want something in between? Got you covered. Dante's combat system is deeper than Nero and it'll take some time to really be decent with him.

+ The controls are tight and responsive due to the target for 60fps. I'm really glad they stuck to the 60fps target instead of taking the easy way out for 30fps.

+ Boy does the game look good. The character models are beautiful, the rigging and animation team has done a fantastic job in how all the characters and its counterparts move. There's a nice flow to it yet kept wholly in the realm of "holy shit, wtf did I just witnessed" realm. The VFX are overdone just like past DMC games, but they're such a treat to look at. Capcom has been pushing for the "photo realistic" look since RE7, but they hit the jackpot here on balance between realism and supernatural. The facial animation here is top notch and I think even better than RE2R. Usually in action games, such attention to facial animation detail is uncommon but yet the artists said - screw it, we're going beyond the uncanny valley.

+ The audio... well, to be honest after RE7 and RE2R - I was having unusually high hopes for DMC5. Capcom hits right another jackpot here. Every accompanying sound effect, sounds amazing. They brought back old effects, they made new ones. It sounds like DMC and not DmC and that's all it really matters IMO.

~ While I love Nero's "Pull my Devil Trigger" track, I dislike the almost cringey track of V's. It's so bland, generic metal. It's the kind of bashing your skull tune people who has never really heard metal think of, just like how people who has never heard of ballads thinking that they're just cry me a river love songs. This goes the same for Dante, which is kinda perplexing too. Thankfully, you can switch out the battle tracks if you bought the Deluxe Edition. But if you didn't... ugh.

~ V's combat is... awkward. It's a breath of fresh of air I guess, but it's practically easy mode. It's so easy to get SSS in-game with him, even on DMD mode his missions are relatively simple. There are depth to his combat skills however, like did you know that you don't actually have to weaken an enemy to go for the kill? You could actually just parry enemies and do a just frame instant kill instead. It's actually pretty cheap once you get the timing down.

~ The default Devil Hunter mode is just too easy. Now I fully understand that Capcom wants newcomers not to be overwhelmed and frustrated with the game (something DMC1 and DMC3 was infamous for). But for me, personally - the default difficulty is way too easy. I S-ranked most missions first try without even trying. I feel that Son of Sparda mode should have been unlocked from the beginning as an extra choice for those that want more of a challenge as a first time playthrough. I could have just killed Urizen on mission 1 to end the game (yes, you technically can finish the game in 20 minutes lol) and unlock SoS mode immediately, but I didn't know that until more than half way through the game.

- Once you go down the Qliphoth tree, majority of the environments look the same. The level design starts becoming bland and generic, there aren't that many variety to the setting unfortunately and I think it's the only major disappointment I have with the game.

----

I'm glad DMC is back and I don't know if this will indeed be the last DMC game or not. But having waited over a decade for this, I don't really mind anymore if it is the last one. Whichever way it is, DMC5 is an amazing game for newcomers and long time fans of the series. Welcome back Capcom, welcome back Devil May Cry.

Steam has regional pricing, so not really fair lol.

Only way now is to hunt the 2nd hand copies.

Exactly. Already told Capcom they should have an auto-skip cutscene option with the next update (which is Bloody Palace).

That said, I put the game on SSD. Load times are fairly quick.
