Hi. Has anyone managed to get the CIMB ATM Debit card fee of MYR15.00 (+GST) waived? The customer service pointed out that the savings account is free of charge. But this fee is for the ATM Debit card which I have no choice but to take because CIMB no longer supports the normal ATM card. This is blatant hidden fees and false advertising.
I read in an earlier thread that potentially I need to close my current savings account and reopen a basic savings account. However, if they are giving the same ATM Debit card, then wouldn't CIMB be charging the same ATM Debit Card fee?
Are there any other consumer banks in Malaysia who are doing this unethical practice?

I did ask this question before and I was reluctant to convert my conventional ATM card to the new ATM-cum-debit card version. The bank officer told me that the annual fee charge is based on the account you own. Since my account is BSA, I won't be charged for RM 8 ATM fee and RM 1X debit card fee. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes. Just close account and ask for free basic savings account. Problem settle. They will tell you that account doesn't exist or don't apply the free account, there's limit. Just ignore them and insist you want that free account. Been there done that. Yes other banks also doing such things. If you don't ask, you don't get the free account.

just wondering have anyone verified that holding debit card with BSA won't get charge for debit card annual fees?
called HLB just now and ask about this, the CS says as long as you hold the debit card, there will be annual fees for the debit card even though ur account is BSA. not sure is CIMB works the same or not.

I'm holding ATM-cum-debit card from MBB & CIMB. They said won't be charging the debit card fee. Annual fee for ATM will be based on account type.
