At the June 2008 Blizzard Worldwide Invitational, Blizzard Executive Vice President Rob Pardo was quoted as saying that development of the campaign was one-third complete and that there would be significantly more to show by the end of 2008.

Some interesting news...

QUOTE
“In the event” that an expansion is produced for the upcoming Starcraft II, Blizzard Entertainment will likely consider introducing a fourth race to the prodigious RTS franchise – or so says the company’s co-founder and Vice President Frank Pearce.

“We don’t have the resources or time to add a fourth race to the launch of StarCraft II, but I’m sure in the event that we decide to do an expansion set it’s a feature that’ll come up for discussion,” said Pearce, in an interview with VG247.

Pearce explained that the possibility of establishing a new faction had been discussed earlier in Starcraft II’s development cycle. “But we felt like we had a finite amount of great ideas and wanted to make sure we focused all the cool, best ideas on the existing three races rather than diluting those ideas across four races” he said.

Starcraft II is set to feature the three races from the original game: the Zerg, Protoss and Terran and as is the case with all Blizzard titles, you can expect to see it on the shelf “when it’s done”.

What do you think?

I hope the fourth race would be the Hybrids.

There are two possible choices for a Fourth Race...either the Hybrids or the Xel-Naga...personally...I want to Xel-Naga

and its kinda ironic that when SC2 was first launched...they said they wouldn't add a 4th race hmm.gif

and now...an expansion? lol

They just say they might.

I want Hybrids because Xel Naga are just even more high tech version of Protoss. Hybrids sounds pretty cool.

Koreans wont be happy,though.

Blizzard don't normally introduce new elements unless they have a very good reason to do so.
With the poosible inclusion it might delay the game even longer, i hope they just develop & deliver it straight away.
Just afraid that it might encountered fate like "Duke Nukem Forever" what a waste then

They have a pretty good reason now. Both Xel Naga and Hybrids are going to have a big role in the campaign. There arent any good reason for not bringing them in.

Maybe Xelnaga is gonna be a campaign-only race like the Nagas in WC3.
Not available in normal ladder game.

I think Blizzard did say that both Hybrid and Xel Naga will be playable in campaign.

Dunno will they be a full playable race in expansion, though.

It's time for SC universe to expand.I saw WC universe expand so much in WoW while SC is still pretty much the same.

It can be balanced any way.

I dont see why Xel Naga cannot be in the game.Other than, they could be the high tech version of Protoss. yawn.gif

Activision Confirms StarCraft II for 2009
2nd Sep 2008 03:55 AM GMT

Activision are currently having the time of their lives, with Blizzard and themselves joining hand in one of the now biggest gaming companies around. Activision Blizzard are currently holding the Activate Asia Pacific conference in Auckland New Zealand to show their sales prowess from the Christmas line-up to regional representatives of retailers. In the fray, Managing Director Philip Earl made quite bold predictions about market shares for the upcoming Christmas, including sales of Wrath of the Lich King.

The interesting fact with this presentation is that while we recently got confirmation that StarCraft II won't be joining us for the Christmas of 2008, we WILL be seeing StarCraft II sometime during 2009.

Next year's offerings from Activision Blizzard should include highly anticipated PC strategy title StarCraft II, the sequel to one of the world's most enduringly popular games.

While this isn't a bold statement by any measure, it's nice to hear that communication inside the massive company talks in the terms of "2009" rather than "sometime in the distant future". Most predictions of StarCraft II's release date range around 2009, so fans will not get overly surprised by this announcement. Seeing how the release schedule for Diablo II is at least slightly linked to that of StarCraft II, there are probably plenty of Diablo fans out there that are happy to know this.

A word of caution though! Even though Activision Blizzard owns Blizzard, they have always been a very independent company, regardless of owners, and could very well hold StarCraft back to 2010 just to prove us wrong...

I don't have a single doubt that starcraft 2 will not be released this year judging this is one of their "primary" product.
It needs countless polishing to make sure it reach the masses.

Judging from the history of release date of several Blizzard games they fall between june & july in the summer.
In the west this was not the best marketing period when everybody goes outdoor (where movies come big) & few go indoors (video-games)
Therefore major games will normally comes in fall & winter when everybody stays indoor (due to snow)
Any big games released on this point of date will generate huge sales (therefore some speculate end of december release date)

Maybe Blizzard will release the date at Blizzcon later in october (they strongly implies a huge surprise)

Xel'Naga got its ass kicked by both Protoss and Zerg, BEFORE they even became powerful. Zerg trashed the Xel'Naga and assimilated them - that is how they became so powerful. Protoss was still in ints infancy when it literally raped the Xel'Naga out of their world.

Xel'Nagas are not combat-oriented races. I'd doubt they'd even be able to fight a sensible war. Most likely the 4th race would be the hybrid - makes more sense that way.

Protoss didnt fight Xel Naga.Xel Naga left them because they think that the Protoss are hopeless. They were killing each other in Aion of Strife.

Zerg is the one that actually wipe Xel Naga out but the manual only say that they destroy a few Xel Naga ships.

Besides,in one of the SC2 videos,Zeratul says that Xel Naga is coming back to complete the cycle. If the Xel Naga are weak or dead, they wont come back to complete the cycle.
