QUOTE(kcchong2000 @ May 25 2018, 09:03 AM) this is quite common for older generation malays. malay names are arabic in nature so some of the pronounciations arent spellable in the latin alphabet. at some point, someone 'smart' thought it was a good idea to put '@' to indicate it could be spelled one way or another. |

QUOTE(homicidal85 @ May 25 2018, 09:16 AM) this is quite common for older generation malays. malay names are arabic in nature so some of the pronounciations arent spellable in the latin alphabet. at some point, someone 'smart' thought it was a good idea to put '@' to indicate it could be spelled one way or another. In the past, our grandpa go to counter and say their child name when register for their birth certificate. So maybe the JPN officer mistakenly heard the name and thus led to this conflict. Now we use to fill form when register for birth ert. So it's less likely for an error. Yes this 2 fathers name always a hassle to me as people call my dad as Ramzan but in the IC it's Ramdan comes first before Ramzan. Haish.I already ask some people working as travel agent. They said dont worry as the statement "The bearer also known as..." is there in the passport, I'm good to go. It's will be problem if the statement is missing. Then I have to make correction to the ticket. Otherwise airline staff will not let me board the plane. But they advise me in future when booking a flight, always use the name in passport not IC. Or the more better option, follow the IC name in passport. Thanks for the advise. Hope will also help another person who have same problem with me. |

Long as your passport is legit, they normally won't question.
They know there are people who have aliases (such as your father) |
