I pity your car... ...

Hahaha well I have owned and maintained various cars for more than 30 years and all this while none of my cars have complained. My current 10 year old car still returns FC as per the spec sheet reaching over 700km/tank, still able to accelerate 0-100 in around 7 secs and reach top speed in excess of 240kph, engine metal all still in shiny pristine clean condition and sounds smooth like butter.

I pity you for wasting your money unwisely! laugh.gif

Huhu, use case bro, use case.

Heard of "Penny wise, Pound foolish"? =D
You can also argue "A penny saved is a penny earned",

so we're not both entirely right, neither entirely wrong,

guys , what's the difference between liqui moly toptec ? synthoil  ? molygen ? they are all fully synthetic oil , right ? I'm looking for fully synthetic oil now for my persona ... Or any brand suggestion for fully synthetic oil ? I have been using shell helix semi synthetic all this while , i can feel the engine sound is quite rough
*
Engine sound rough, is inherent in the engine and its parts, nothing to do with the oil.

Since, the Persona is not a high performance car, right spec Mineral oil will do. Any oil with XXw-40 will do. Change it according to Proton's recommended interval, every 6 months or 10k km.

If you want better protection, for the occasional, sprint, semi synthetics would be better.

Synthetic oil is overkill for a Proton. But, if you have a lot of money or if company is paying for maintenance, synthetics.

Engine oil, based on mileage la! No hard rules of the change frequency. The norm is 5k or 15 k mileage. Depend on the grade of oil used!Hope this help! Btw, google is a very good helper!

my gen2 extended till 9-10 months, no problem so far. Modern engine and engine oil are less prone to sludge, unless u using those API SG mineral oil.

Till now ok. Travel often, most highway... so yea. 2 months 5000 km than I changed. Maybe near future I don't travel that much, changed 6 month or 7500km...

Cheap only. I got around 100 - 110 MYR after rebate.

I'm using Amsoil. Saga BLM.

Using the signature series, fully synthetic all the way

Starting from 0W-30, to 0W-40, to 10W-50, then overhaul,
then now using 0W-40.

Mileage 305000 km, 8 years car, i drive my car very hard.

I highly recommend, check it out.

Why did you overhaul?

Compression Loss and "1Liter engine oil loss per 5000km" through the valve, at the 260K km mark =D

When opened engine top (head), found 4 valve seats (out of 12) badly worn off.

Had to change the whole engine top.

Foreman noted highly likely spark plugs too hot. I could agree.
Nothing to do with engine oil, everything inside the engine was pristine, except the worn valve seats.

Stock plugs are temp range 6, the platinum iridium i was using temp range 7.
Coupled with frequent sustained High Speed highway runs over the years
(consistently in excess of 160km/h, KL to Penang,Terengganu,JB),
valve seat gave way =D

Now using stock plugs, but change more often =D

No need fully synthetic engine oil for your Proton Persona.. Liquy Moly MOS2 already good enough even for my previous dugong.. did tried all kind of fully synthetic oil, still Liquy Moly MOS2 better then most of it.. maybe some actually better but its just too expensive (which cost rm200+ only for engine oil)

The most important is consistently change engine oil at right time or mileage whichever come first.. not by using very expensive engine oil and forgot to change it past the due date or mileage..

Ahhhh, plat iridium which brand?
No picture when overhaul being carried out? hmm.gif

Back to topic, IMO.
Fully syn, is good for longer OCI others benefits quite minimal.
Semi syn is definitely better for your oil seals than mineral.
If we gonna talk oil, is gonna be long process what is good and not.
Base oil, additive, OCI, filters & etc.

Just stick to your budget, monitor your oil and change your oil when is due.
