Not very much, by the looks of it. We still see the same level of incompetency.
I'm still running my energy hog of a Zenfone 2 on Lollipop - all because Asus screwed up big time with their Marshmallow upgrade. It was a disaster.
Hope that's not going to be the case for M1 if they decide to offer an upgrade to Android P.
Good luck to us all...LOL!
To be fair, Asus does have a very large portfolio of electronics. They started as PC components provider like motherboards and GPUs. In that department, they have improved tremendously and is now the top manufacturer of PCs in Taiwan and one of the top in the world.
Their laptop is still hit and miss and their service in Malaysia does still have a lot of improvement needed. Let's not go there.
As for their mobile phones, I remember they started out going with Intel SoC which was a mistake. Intel ended up failing to secure a position in the mobile world and they soon dropped off from that. So Asus has to continue their mobile ventures with other SoC. It started with Zenfone 3 which was using Snapdragon 625. I personally know 3 person who uses this phone and they have no complain with it. In fact they like the phone a lot. I am not saying Asus is perfect or at the level with Samsung but they are improving. The M1 is their attempt at capturing another market segment. They had to shave off a bit from here and there to get to the low price that they are offering to consumers. For those who have higher demand, the Zenfone 5 is actually a good phone to consider and all the expectations of better camera, better built quality, better ZenUI with all the functions are there. In terms of king of price over performance, Xiaomi is still the top. They have been around for many years and have perfected their formula to doing that. They have captured the market enough for them to use "quantity" for economy of scale. Asus is still struggling to get sales for their phones and very late to come into the mobile market to challenge Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi and Lenovo.
For that reason, I am staying with M1 and see how far Asus will go to support this phone. Sure, I would be wondering if I will be happier if I have gone with RN5 but I do like the pure android and bigger battery too. And at RM599, I can root the phone all I want and not afraid for it bricking.
