Hmm seems like the error u get also related to memory as well. Anyone facing this as well?
*
Ran the Windows Memory Diagnostics and it showed no errors, took a while to complete though.

Tried to check more details of the RAM model with CPU-Z, but it cannot show any details about my RAM haha. Don't know the make or brand of my RAM. (Mine are the illegear stock sticks)

Did u tried memtest?
*
Will try when I got a thumbdrive to do so, have you?

I am hoping it is fixable remotely or via updates, not convenient to send back to Illegear for me at the moment.

---

When updating the BIOS though at the last step when updating the OEM Service thing, I have a lot of UAC prompts while doing that, don't know if that's normal or not

Hi guys,

Recently we have two ONYX users reported BSOD (driver IRQL not less or equal, page fault in nonpage area etc) to us, one of them got his fix by updating windows/drivers, another one was fixed by reformatting windows.

It doesn't seem to be caused by the latest BIOS because we have used this bios for all new ONYX orders.

You can try to update the drivers/windows first, or reformat, steps as below:

1. Backup your important data first from your laptop
2. Locate one 8GB pendrive for usage
3. Using another computer, download the Windows 10 Installation Media from here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/software-download/windows10
4. The tool will mount the Windows 10 ISO into the USB drive to make it bootable
5. Boot your laptop from the USB to enter into the recovery environment

If you are unsure how to do the reformat, you can backup your data and send your system to illegear, we can help to identify the root cause of BSOD and reformat if necessary.

Hi Prince,

What drivers need to be updated? And is there any link to the (updated?) drivers? I am already on Windows 1803.

After another BSOD, used the WhoCrashed software for some details:

Any idea what driver needs to be updated? Cannot find more info on 'hardware.sys'

Thanks.

Wow, not even a few months and already on the topic of refresh.

Can the existing users upgrade to the new V3 keyboard when it is released?

If they sell the keycaps seperately I want a set for sure. The convex keys are soooo smexy (and looks practical for touch typing).

And yeah, my Onyx is averaging 3 hours under light-normal loads now, and zero other problems.

But then again, I'm normally on my spare 180w adapters so that might just be it.
*
Yeah am also interested in those caps. Hopefully we can get them separately.

Btw, may I know which OEM charger's fit the ONYX? Looking to pick up a 180W charging brick too.

Asus/MSI/Clevo tipped bricks seem to fit and work well, to be specific ones with 5.5*2.5 mm barrel connectors.

Myself I have been using 1 Asus ADP-180MB F and 2 Lite-On ADP-180MB K (which I suspect might just be the same bloody Delta thing inside, which isn't too bad as Delta make pretty good PSUs) with zero issues so far. And yes, I kid you not when I once said I had a small army of the things lol.

Also Clevo specced Chicony 180w adapters should work too, but are usually pricey for some unknown reason (compared to the Deltas). Similarly Razer units, which are even more expensive.
*
Thanks for your detailed reply!

Have a 180W brick from a previous clevo, but the tip is really loose so any slight movement causes the laptop not to charge anynore, but no biggie.

Looking for a second brick so can leave one at the office and one at the house. Used the 150W and while playing games that are relatively demanding still causes sudden shut down despite the latest BIOS.

Look at the bleed at the bottom of the screen, is this normal?

The 60hz screen has some issue with this, apparently it's common if the brightness is low enough. I also have it but it's only really noticeable in light backgrounds with low brightness.

We will bring the CAP2 in together with the brown (silent) mechanical switch.

And we don't just offer on new model, we are also trying to make it as an upgrade option for existing ONYX owner.
*
Yes, please make the caps and the silent(!) mechanical switch available for existing owners !

Well actually I wonder why most ppl prefer Onyx than Raven Elite (both 1060) tho, can share?

*
Well performance of the two models may be similar but the main draw of the Onyx is that it is more sleeker and portable (lighter, smaller, thinner) and has thinner bezels.

If considering only Illegear laptops, if just looking for more bang for your buck I would say the Raven Elite (or Laguna) may be right for you but if you value a aesthetics in a laptop with comparable performance at a slight premium you may find the Onyx a better choice.

Laguna especially TBH. It might not have the best battery life but hey, full fat 1070. And not that the Onyx is any champion in terms of battery life either, though it does outlive the Laguna by a bit.

But looks, dang it's hard to beat that minimal bazel screen really.
*
Agreed on the battery life but the only way to have a bigger battery is to do away with the 2.5 inch HDD slot and until larger capacity SSDs become more or as affordable as HDDs, cannot complain much haha.

Hopefully when the time comes to upgrade/replace our laptops, most if not all laptops will have thin bezels thumbup.gif

Once you experienced the thin bezel and smaller 15 inch form factor it really is noticeable, especially for me innocent.gif

8750H or 8300H? I heard 8750H is much hotter.
*
Yes 8750H is more hotter because of the additional cores but you can only get the GTX1060 with the 8750H if I am not mistaken.

The brown switch is very silent compared to the original blue switch KB, but still remain the tactility of the mechanical keyboard.

The blue switch has better tactile feedback compared to brown because of the sound the blue makes, just my 2cent.
*
Will the brown switches come with different caps or will stick to the same caps used with the blue switches?

and and and.. under this screen of our onyx looks too empty.. need a Metal sticker "illegear" for that part =D can adjust a Prince J?
*
I remember there's another user who did a custom skin on his laptop and shared it in this thread earlier, maybe can take a look.

Haha, I prefer the no logo/sticker on the bottom bezel of the screen, helps to make the screen more immersive to me biggrin.gif

Any updates on pricing for existing users to change to the brown switches?

Do early supporters of the Onyx get a discount? tongue.gif

Does anybody's Onyx charges from 99% to 100% after turning on the computer from shut down despite using the laptop plugged in prior to the shutdown and the battery is 100% before shut down?

It also takes about 15-20 minutes to charge that last 1%.

Haven't timed mine but I would normally charge the laptop only when the battery is lower than 20%. Charging it from 99% to 100% in my opinion would only deteriorate the battery health faster.
*
Yeah agreed on the charging part but my problem is my laptop will charge until 100% fine but after I shut down and use the laptop the next time my laptop will still charge from 99% to 100% even though I used my laptop plugged in prior to that. (laptop at 100% when shut down)

Looking to purchase this laptop, but see many problems people are facing tho. Is it safe to gamble and buy this laptop? What are the chances of getting a flawed model. Because this is the model that meets all my needs.
*
At this stage the laptop should be fine, it now ships with a 180W PSU and has had numerous software updates, it's just that some of the early adopters have some issues.
