By that you mean that purchasing now should be no problem? Only early buyers have problems right?

Not guaranteeing you will not have problems but the system is more stable now on the software side. Hardware is your usual luck

Onyx owners, as you know there are 1 USB port on the left side and 2 more ports on the right side, can you try plugging 2 usb sticks or external drives on the right side and see if both are being detected fine?

I tried mine, plugging 2x 32GB stick and only can read 1 and the other kept trying to connect. No problem if plug 1 at each side though.

Tried an external HDD and a USB stick on the right side and no problems.

I have the X-Lite 2, X-Slim, A200 and the Notepal U2 (with no fans as they broke lol). The A200 is the best of the three as far as airflow is considered, but the X-Lite is a bit better sizewise.

Is there a noticeable decrease in temperatures by using these coolers?
I'm currently only using bottle caps tongue.gif

I'd say a 5c-ish drop in most situations? Maybe even closer to 10c if I get lucky lol.

But of course, don't expect anything drastic lol, you can only force THAT much extra air through the device no matter how you try... and the heatsinks can only displace so much heat.

Thanks for the reply.

I also can have a temperature drop of a few degrees by using bottle caps. I guess most of the temperature reduction comes from actually elevating the laptop higher so that there is better airflow, and there may be diminishing returns from using a cooler compared to bottle caps, but every little bit helps. Or maybe I'm just stingy tongue.gif

Now I disable turbo boost with ThrottleStop and it helps reduce temperatures especially on the CPU, before this I can reach almost 100C on the 8750H with certain games but now I reach mid 80s and low 90 at max.

Yeah I'd say diminishing returns, but it's pretty much the rule once you get past a certain point in anything anyway lol.

As for temps, I've actually never seen my CPU go past 95c even at full stress test temps and with Turbo engaged, for some unknown reason even without the cooler.

Maybe it's just the types of games I play, not sure though, who knows.

Nice thermals you got there.

I wonder if my Kryonaut has dried prematurely then. sweat.gif

Recently collected my laptop from Illegear for RMA regarding the battery issue and changing the keyboard to the Cap 2/XMG caps + brown switches. Have done a fair bit of typing and would like to share some thoughts.

Firstly, the brown keyboard for me is much better than the blue original keyboard. Changed to the brown keyboard mainly to have a silent keyboard, as the blue switches are annoying anyone near me when I'm typing with their loud 'clicky' sounds. The brown switches sound similar to a membrane keyboard.

The new key caps don't wobble as much as the Cap 1 keycaps, therefore giving an improved typing experience. Keys feel more stable and the feel is better. Previously with the old keyboard I will have instances where the inputs will be registered even if not pressing the keys until the 'click' registers, or sometimes double registering inputs when typing, lending to typos. Currently no such issue.

You do lose that tactile feel with the blue switches, but I vastly prefer the new brown switches with the new caps. With the deep travel it kinda feels like a ThinkPad keyboard, which I consider to be one of the best keyboards available in a laptop. I make noticeably less typos now.

Regarding the battery, I still have the issue of the 99% charging even though Illegear said they managed to replicate the issue during RMA and replaced a new battery. Guess I'll have to return for another RMA in the future. Has anyone else encounter this issue?

I thought their service was pleasant and relatively helpful, in particular Azim. Didn't encounter any lost chargers or damage to my laptop during RMA.

I am looking on this laptop recently. Went to the showroom/office to have a look on the real one. Good build quality.

However, I noticed one flaw which is the track pad. I hold my finger on the trackpad without moving, the cursor on the desktop keep "dancing around". I asked the sales representative whom replied that it might be driver not fully installed.

I went through the net and also noticed that reviewer pointed out the same problem.
Also, they did mentioned about loud fan noise and also crazy hot button on the top part of the laptop after gaming some times.

I would like to know more real life user experience from here. Hope you guy could
share your experience.

Thank you so much, really appreciate.

The touchpad is awful IMHO, get an external mouse if possible. You might end up turning off the touchpad anyway when typing because palm rejection when typing is bad, at least for me.

Yeah the fan noise under load may be loud but if you are using headphones you would not notice it. May be distracting to other people around you though.
The top part can be hot when under load but that is where the heatpipes are, which helps to keep the keyboard area cool. Just have to keep that in mind when you reach for the fan boost button in the middle of gaming tongue.gif

May I know if the space bar is wobbly like other reviewer mentioned about? Or it is just happened on Cap 1?

The Cap 1 keys are a bit wobbly, my Cap 2s are more stable.

Can someone who has replaced the keyboard switches to brown please give some feedback on the process. What does the upgrade kit consist of and how did you replace the keys?
*
The staff will help you change the keyboard

It should be a whole piece of keyboard with brown switches already on it

Hi jrlogger

Kindly find the download link for the latest version of Onyx Command Center as below:

http://bit.ly/2rATrbz (Onyx Command Center 1.2.2.2)

Thanks for the link Azim.

I would like to ask is the yellow colour option missing from 'User Mode' when choosing keyboard backlit color a bug?

My Onyx's touchpad was bulging, took the cover off and it seems like the battery is swollen and hence pushing the touchpad. Removed the battery as a precaution.

How much does a new battery cost and can Illegear fix it in a single visit?

Hi, I have an Onyx 8th Gen GTX 1060.

My laptop is having problems booting up, when i press the power button without charger attached, the charging LED on the laptop will blink orange and nothing will appear in screen. The power LED is not lit

If I attach charger and press the power button, the power LED will be green and the charger LED will be orange, the screen will show until the ILLEGEAR screen and then the laptop will turn off with a soft pop sound. Any help?
