A lot of people think work in SG very nice. But unless u wanna be baggala 4eva alone in SG, don't come down for less than 10kSGD. Here is why:

My boss 15k salary, got 2 kids, aged 7 and 2

International School : 3k/month(1 kid) = left 12k
Car : 1.5k monthly for installment and upkeep costs = left 10.5k
Condo in a decent part of SG: 3.5k = left 7k
Maid plus costs of maid: 1k = left 6k
Food cost for family of 4 plus maid : 1.5k = left 4.5k

Minus taxes, trips back to home country and misc expenses, you can see how it really is barely enough.


You could probably cut a bit here and there, like getting a cheaper condo and private but as foreigner, you really have some costs that can't be avoided as some things like public housing and public school is not available to you. So minimum to survive in SG with a foreigner with a family i would say is 10k

So /k/, Don't come to SG unless got 10k sgd.

Inb4 20k minimum

Just telling you my boss lifestyle. I never tried to justify it. And i also said that some expenses can cut. After cut, you're still looking at least 10k for a comfortable living as a foreigner with a family.

But Don't forget, my boss only has one kid in international school. When 2nd kid hits schooling age, the price will go up almost double. So that offsets any savings you get by cutting expenses.

Don't think you can get a condo for 1.5k in SG for family living. 1.5k barely gets you a studio in less than convenient locations.

as mentioned, the boss is not Malaysian, they such as American or any other western country expat, they don't bother about Singapore pr status. mostly Malaysian that went to Singapore would consider pr. don't forget, expat are mostly on contract basis.

expat would enrol their children in private school or home school, as Singapore public school are prioritised for Singaporean and pr. this is a norm.

for 1000 square foot, to me, is way too small. for malaysia standard, is a 2 bed apartment. for Singapore standard, I highly doubt you still able to get 1k at condo even in the least popular area. I think you mistaken hen with condo.

to have a domestic helper, is a norm and if we can afford to suit our lifestyle. having 2 kids at home especially with age between new born to 12 year old request forever attention and lots housec chores involved.

My father is a farmer and mom a housewife. Grew up poor. My dad gave me a good education and as a banker I only earn at max rm4k plus ot.

I'm not a very smart person hence my job skill doesn't bring me anywhere much. I chose to go sg, I earn 2.9x in exchange for long journeys. If I were in kl, my hours maybe also wasted in oversleeping, gaming and maybe u productive activities.

Life is not the same for everyone. Some had a easier choice, others less. I think I'm blessed. It maybe tough but its my choice. Plus, I have a fear in driving so singapore is made for me ><
