Salary > medicine

While peasant having problem getting medicine, some of us happily enjoying checkups with no burden.

Health check on the 2018 Budget

QUOTE
By right, we should be placing more emphasis on the operating budget, since it takes up 93.1% (RM 24.7 billion), a lion’s share of the total MOH budget. Over half, or 60.9%, of the operating budget is reserved for the salaries and wages for a workforce of 268,014 in total. The number of positions in the Health Ministry has increased by 30.2% from 2010-2018, while the amount paid for emoluments in 2018 has risen 144.6% compared to 2010 . The health workforce is crucial in ensuring high standards of healthcare delivery, but this rise is only justifiable if the emolument rise converts to higher pay to retain quality talent.

Cut back on funding for supplies and services

Departments under the Medical Care (Perubatan) category will receive the largest amount RM13.2 billion, or a 53.4% of the total operating budget, followed by the Public Health (Kesihatan Awam) category (RM4.7 billion or 19.1%) (Figure 2). Worryingly, although the total sum of allocations for these two categories has increased compared to 2017, most of it is channelled towards emolument. Despite the functional importance of these two categories, the government has opted to cut back on funding for supplies and services for both categories (Figure 3). For Medical Care, the allocation for supplies and services shrank from RM5.17 billion in 2015 to RM3.92 billion in 2018, a difference of RM1.26 billion!

However, there are some patient also simply waste medicine and have no initiative to stay healthy like controlling food and workout. It might be right for gov hospital wages increase but its not right for patients to take advantage by wasting the medicine or take mc for the sake of being lazy.

The noble system is taxed by majority rakyats who dont seem to care about their own health... poor lifestyle choices and all. Campaign on eating right, anti-smokings/alcohol and pro-exercises failed to convert them. Just look at streets around us and the condition and habits of a typical Malaysian adult.

The victims are those poor rakyats with chronic disease due to their poor genes/birth defects despite trying to be healthy.. still succumb to needing medical assistance till they die.

Some say the poor are the ones with health problems due to lack of healthy foods and proper lifestyle but its true to tax with those lack of health awareness, like smokers should be charge higher at government hospitals if its because of smoking.

I believe develop countries does this, when go to clinics you will only check by nurse. If its important then doctors will attend. After that, patients buy medicine them self.

My friend work in hospital,

it is constantly lack of doctors and nurses.

What he/she said alot of time the patient are foreigners, but they have to pay full amount.

Imagine the amount of time spent treating the foreigners, instead of us Malaysian, hence the lacking of medical staff was not cause by surge on Malaysian population, but increasing of foreigners

Read properly, the emolument rise converts to higher pay to retain quality talent. Not medical staff don't need certain quality talent.

It clearly said in the article BN cut the budget for supplies and service but increase salary. Its enough evidence for us to vote PH and change this. We need PH to support low income earners who can't afford medicine, not the other way round like what BN is doing.

Doctor job in Malaysia is not risky until relative of patients threaten and succeed to kill them if the patient dies.

Happened in the US already, those guys deserve the money since they are gambling with their own lives.

Doctors/Nurse are always in contact with germs and disease

Plus because doctors have to work long shift (36 hour shift), they have weaker immune system than normal.

Yes pay is high, but there is a price to pay

But the thing is, our low income earners with serious health problems have problem buying the medicine and right now gov hospital give medicine to everyone including middle and higher income Malaysian for free.

It is directly linked with the huge increase in number of medical/dental/pharmacy graduates in recent years all waiting for the Health Ministry to feed them jobs.

Just look at the number of grads from foreign countries, and the number of med colleges in Malaysia. wink.gif

Deadwood staff

Hahaha
I kind of know a lot who go out drink coffe or tea mamak all the time.

Ask them do the simple job theyre paid to do and theyll make noise

And their bosses close one eye.. And medical staff cant touch them coz they are not under medical staff.

Its like everyone expects them to not be in hospital during working hours... And if they somehow appear for work, theyre considered doing everyone a favour.

Btw anywone remmeber those ppl who overclaim their overtime and kena jail? Thats just the tip of the iceberg.

Ok la, lesbian look like Rosmah & Azalina don't get subsidy and pay full amount with 30% surcharge on total payment.

But those look like Syefura Othman couple with Jo-Anna Sue Henley Rampas don't have to pay plus they get Bantuan Persetubuhan 1 Malaysia.

Still, ghey men need to be charged because they can lie if they use condom.

i see that's why all these time very less pengambilan baru. no money to give salary.

medical assistants also almost no new one for the past 2 years they said, or its probably too little new intake. and suddenly near pru they want to open more. lots of medical assistant grads already give up waiting 2 years do mekdi and so on.

what's funny is they promise new hospital every pru but still didnt build it. i guess even if they've build it, there'll be no staff

Either they could only give relief to poor family, like below a certain income etc.

If claim smoking or unhealthy lifestyle, would they have the will to ban smoking etc? They can't give up the tax from those industry. Even medical ppl and health ministry ppl pun smoke apa semua.

erm, you do realise our government hospitals are abused to death by the rakyat right

and if anything the way the opposition is calling for debt reduction and what not, its likley that the prices of these things will go up

U probably haven't been in a gov hospital before, there are some poor ppl came all the way from rural areas to get treatment and they didn't get medicine because gov cut supplies budget. Then when the price increases, how does these ppl going to buy their medicine when allocation is given away to other ppl. So, vote PH and we need to change this.

Govt hospitals give medicine stamps to these people and then use the stamps in pharmacy.

That can easily manipulated and cost more. To come out with the system itself could probably difficult.

Its true with need budget for other area like medicine supplies for poor rakyat not high salary medical officers. In addition, doctors in government hospitals could probably leave to private hospitals if they are too greedy with high salary but when government hospitals gives free medicine to rakyat, how will the doctors in private hospitals find patients when everyone went to the government hospitals?
