Salary > medicine

While peasant having problem getting medicine, some of us happily enjoying checkups with no burden.

Health check on the 2018 Budget

QUOTE
By right, we should be placing more emphasis on the operating budget, since it takes up 93.1% (RM 24.7 billion), a lion’s share of the total MOH budget. Over half, or 60.9%, of the operating budget is reserved for the salaries and wages for a workforce of 268,014 in total. The number of positions in the Health Ministry has increased by 30.2% from 2010-2018, while the amount paid for emoluments in 2018 has risen 144.6% compared to 2010 . The health workforce is crucial in ensuring high standards of healthcare delivery, but this rise is only justifiable if the emolument rise converts to higher pay to retain quality talent.

Cut back on funding for supplies and services

Departments under the Medical Care (Perubatan) category will receive the largest amount RM13.2 billion, or a 53.4% of the total operating budget, followed by the Public Health (Kesihatan Awam) category (RM4.7 billion or 19.1%) (Figure 2). Worryingly, although the total sum of allocations for these two categories has increased compared to 2017, most of it is channelled towards emolument. Despite the functional importance of these two categories, the government has opted to cut back on funding for supplies and services for both categories (Figure 3). For Medical Care, the allocation for supplies and services shrank from RM5.17 billion in 2015 to RM3.92 billion in 2018, a difference of RM1.26 billion!

However, there are some patient also simply waste medicine and have no initiative to stay healthy like controlling food and workout. It might be right for gov hospital wages increase but its not right for patients to take advantage by wasting the medicine or take mc for the sake of being lazy.

The noble system is taxed by majority rakyats who dont seem to care about their own health... poor lifestyle choices and all. Campaign on eating right, anti-smokings/alcohol and pro-exercises failed to convert them. Just look at streets around us and the condition and habits of a typical Malaysian adult.

The victims are those poor rakyats with chronic disease due to their poor genes/birth defects    despite trying to be healthy.. still succumb to needing medical assistance till they die.
*

Some say the poor are the ones with health problems due to lack of healthy foods and proper lifestyle but its true to tax with those lack of health awareness, like smokers should be charge higher at government hospitals if its because of smoking.

Just remove free medicine and ask patients to pay for their own medicine.

I believe develop countries does this, when go to clinics you will only check by nurse. If its important then doctors will attend. After that, patients buy medicine them self.

Yes true. Some countries like usa, doctors only give u prescriptions. You have to go to pharmacy to buy the ubat.

Exactly. Malaysian are soo complacent led to lack of health awareness.

My friend work in hospital,

it is constantly lack of doctors and nurses.

What he/she said alot of time the patient are foreigners, but they have to pay full amount.

Imagine the amount of time spent treating the foreigners, instead of us Malaysian, hence the lacking of medical staff was not cause by surge on Malaysian population, but increasing of foreigners
*

Not sure which hospital your friend is in but there are a lot of ppl say that many Malaysian with low income and some middle high income people cramp in gov hospitals.

The number of positions in the Health Ministry has increased by 30.2%
so those new positions are not medical staff lol
*

Read properly, the emolument rise converts to higher pay to retain quality talent. Not medical staff don't need certain quality talent.

Good move. Just prescribe the medicine and patients should go buy it at a pharmacy.
*

But the thing is, our low income earners with serious health problems have problem buying the medicine and right now gov hospital give medicine to everyone including middle and higher income Malaysian for free.

Nothing wrong earning better, it's just that those who earn less than 2k have to accept the fact they're not getting their medicine because gov cut budget in favour for their doctors to have higher pay.

Govt hospitals give medicine stamps to these people and then use the stamps in pharmacy.

That can easily manipulated and cost more. To come out with the system itself could probably difficult.

i think is logical and smart...
no doctor, you die, dont need give medicine and treatment, save cost...

we need that budget for other areas  icon_rolleyes.gif  icon_rolleyes.gif

Its true with need budget for other area like medicine supplies for poor rakyat not high salary medical officers. In addition, doctors in government hospitals could probably leave to private hospitals if they are too greedy with high salary but when government hospitals gives free medicine to rakyat, how will the doctors in private hospitals find patients when everyone went to the government hospitals?
