Check this blog entry on Ambank Prepaid NexG Mastercard. I found it very useful.

Recently booking genting hotel and buy the concert ticket also not accepted, I called to PB service there the staff told me GENTING DOESN'T ACCEPT DEBIT CARD, Damn !

The Company not accept debit card:
1. Genting
*
That's probably because PB debit card is using Visa Electron, unlike the Ambank NexG which is using Mastercard/Visa.

I've seen some posters here saying they were able to book Genting using the NexG.

I've just started using PB Visa Electron for paypal....

everything was smooth. after i deposited rm25, they sent me the card, ATM PIN and i went to my nearest branch and applied for internet banking service for the card account.

i went with this instead of ambank nexg because it does not have extra charges for overseas transactions(foreign currency).

because for public bank visa electron paypal verification, you need to wait until end of month after they send you the statement only can get the code. so you need to choose a good date which is close to but not pass the date they issue statement.
*
lol
got to any PB branch, go to Customer Service counter
tell them you want apply for Internet Banking for your PB Visa Electron account
fill up the form , they will give user/passwords on the spot
go home, login the next day

add the card to paypal
paypal will charge USD 1.95
wait 3 days to appear in your online statement
go pb online and check

for tunemoney anyone tried at the petrol kiosk? they held my RM150 for 2 weeks already

It's called an "authorization charge". The funds will be reserved/withheld from your card account, and credited back to you after a certain period. Different banks may have different period, from a few days to more than 14 days.. Call your bank to find out.

i saw the notice saying that ambank nexg prepaid is not acceptable at the cashier counter. it's at giant usj.
*
Wow that's really silly. I hope they have a good reason for that.

Generally, Visa and Mastercard cards are accepted whenever the Visa/mcard logos are displayed.

stupid me. I also discovered recently StanChart offers free VisaElectron for some of their savings accounts. Unfortunately this was after i signed up with PB VE. My SCB acc was opened in 2003, maybe i'll ask them existing customers can get the debit card.

but StanChart ATM locations can be an issue for some.

I just received my Public Bank debit card and I had to run off before I could ask some questions to the people at the bank, so I'm asking it here. This is my first card and I'm pretty much a noob, but I'll be thankful if anyone can answer my questions.

1. I noticed that my envelope mentions something about a PIN number being mailed to me later. So does that mean I can't use the card for any transactions yet?

2. How does the process for buying stuff with a debit card usually go? PIN and signature required just like a credit card?
*
1. That is the ATM PIN. your debit card also has ATM function. But you can still use the card for retail transactions.

2. Process is same like any credit card. But some merchants may not accept debit cards. Why? I dunno.

has anyone successfully verified his/her paypal account using PB Visa Electron before? i have recently got mine, but when i tried to 'Complete Expanded Use enrollment', it gives the error message

'We were unable to verify this credit card. Please check if the information you entered is correct. If the problem persists, please try to enter a different credit card.'
*
Many others and I have no probs verifying with this card. Best is you to call PB hotline and ask them if they see any errors on their end.

Hey guys!

from the T&C of Maybank Visa Debit, there is a fee of RM10 for overdrawing on the Card account.

I thought a debit card is not supposed to let you spend more than you have in your current/savings account? So how can one possibly overdraw on his/her account? rclxub.gif rclxub.gif rclxub.gif

Maybank debit visa card can't even used for online transactions at all. Both paypal and google checkout decline the card.

yeah, tried to verify my paypal account with Maybank debit card, but was declined. got PBVE but they haven't sent my pin number... gahh... need to call them already.

Have you guys done this? maybe it has something to do with the overseas flag?

From the maybank FAQ
11. Can I use my Maybankard Visa Debit outside Malaysia?
You can use your Maybankard Visa Debit abroad provided you activate the overseas flag prior to your departure. The activation process can be done through our Maybank ATMs or through our 24 hours customer service centre at 1-300-88-6688. Your Maybankard Visa Debit can then be used for retail purchases at any VISA merchants and cash withdrawal at any ATMs with a VISA PLUS logo.

You're looking atleast June 2008 before the feature is being enable. I wonder why Maybank didn't put up in their website that it still not compatible with online transaction.

Possibly the typical "Let's rush it out first, sort probs later" mentality.

If we can already use it in a shop which has visa logo, doesnt this mean we can shop online with a site which accept visa? I am confused here. Or do we only able to shop with visa logo within malaysia only? Never heard of such thing.
*
Yes , you can Visa everywhere in the world, as long as the merchant accepts Visa.

For the PB visa electron,

will they charge extra charges on online transaction for foreign payment?
or just follow the rates with no charge, commission at all?
*
No extra charges. Just the forex conversation rate as determined by VISA.

it's becoz only visa electron card doesnt have admisnistration charge in their booking system... all other cards, visa(credit/debit),mastercard(debit/credit),maestro,AMEX & bla bla all got card administration charges of £4...
*
Yeah. That's one of the reasons I chose PBVE over other cards.

I used SCB debit before to withdraw from overseas ATM. On my slip it says that RM2 has been charged by the overseas bank but in my statement, a total of RM12 was charged.
*
Did you ask the bank regarding the reason for that discrepancy?
