Guys, nowadays can we randomly choose whatever channel we want and subcribe?

My current Astro full pack is going to terminated soon (share with 3 ppl) so i have to resubscribe if i want to continue. The problem is, i only watch some Chinese package, children + sport, bundle pack seems don't have such flexibility.

I can't go for Astro Go or online pack due to the slow internet connection i had. I can reuse my existing satellite facility.

Full pack... Share with 3 people... 😏😏😏 Hmm, Multiroom? 🤫🤫🤫
All 3 including yours are going to terminate? Ask your friend or relative to see if they can tumpang you, by asking them to add Multiroom. Need to plan carefully lah ya...

Do note that if you start a new account subscription, you'll get 12/24 months contract too. If terminate within contract period, penalty will be charged.

Here you go. These are the latest list of all packages and channels available. Click/tap the picture below to view bigger.

I'm not from Astro, I don't work for Astro, so don't come and PM me to process new application for you lol... 🤣🤣
But me, as an Astro fan, I can advice you on the packages stuff la.

First of all, what's your monthly budget?
You said Chinese package, it depends which Chinese channels you want to watch.
Children channels, as in Nick, Disney, Cartoon Network all those? If yes, then it's under Mini package called Kids.
For Starter and Value Pack category, each of any Mini pack costs RM12/month as what you can see on the picture above.
*
Yes bro, multiroom in different house. Share with relative and unfortunately they want to migrate to SG, so will terminate in 2 months time.

I mainly on Chinese program (celestial HD, AEC HD, Astro On Demand HD0, children channel mainly on 'small sun'.

I saw the prime pack is quite close to what i watch usually, but the pricing seems confusing, which one should i choose?

Cureently i pay 93/month. I hope the new subsription won't really exceed that alot. Most importantly the channel must be HD.

Remember to give them 30 days advance notice that you want to terminate the service. It's not that you want to terminate now, it can be done now.

Hope you could share more detail on what are your "must have" channels, and/or which are the channels is your main priority and not-so-priority, so that it'll be easier for me to recommend.

Cheapest way to enjoy HD service, start with "Starter pack" category, from RM61.32/month (RM65/month incl SST).
Astro Xiao Tai Yang and Astro AEC is a free channel, so don't worry.

Celestial HD is "free" if you choose Chinese Family pack, same price RM65/month also.
On Chinese Family pack, besides includes Celestial Movies and a few other Chinese channels, it excludes a few Malay and Tamil SD channels, that's all the difference.

Do you have any other "must have" channels?

If you take both Sports and Dynasty pack (which includes Astro AOD, Wah Lai Toi, etc.), your monthly fee will straight away cost more than RM100/month.
Do you need all of the main sports channels, like all Astro SuperSport 1, 2, 3, 4 channels? Do note that Astro Arena and eGG Network are free channel (included in Family pack).
*
Must have
AOD 350
Xiao Tai Yang 304
AEC 306
Celestial 309
Wah Lai Tai 312
FOX SPORT (8XX, mainly on motor racing - F1, NOT a football fans)

Good to have
HBO HD 4XX
Learning channel like Discovery, NAT GEO...
Disney cartoon channel

Don't need
Malay and Indian channel (I'm not racist blush.gif )

You said, you watch Fox Sports channels are mainly for motor racing like F1...
Do note that Fox Sports 3 channel is free (included in any Family pack). This channel mainly shows selected F1 matches, cricket, motorsports, etc.
If you wish to have a complete Fox Sports 1, Fox Sports 2, and others sports channels, you'll need to take Sports pack where that pack alone need additional RM30-50/month (price varies on your subscription), so it'll exceed your RM93 budget very easily.

Let me know if you don't mind taking that Sports pack, so I'll help you count it again.

Prices below excludes 6% SST

Option 1 - Wah Pack bundle, which includes:
Family Pack
HD & PVR service (bundled)
New Emperor (Celestial Movies 309)
Korean Pack (Oh!K and tvN)
Sports Lite (Astro SuperSport 1 and 2 only)
Boo (CH404)
Baby TV (CH618)
+ Dynasty pack (RM25/month) (e.g. Astro Wah Lai Toi, Astro AOD, Shuang Xing...)

Total: RM105.00/month

I know, you don't need that much channels, and wish to customise own package.
But the thing is, if you customise your own package, this below is what you'll get.

Option 2 - A la carte/customise own package

Chinese Family/Chuen Min Pack
+ Dynasty (e.g. Astro Wah Lai Toi, Astro AOD, Shuang Xing...)
+ HD & PVR service (RM25/month)

Total: RM106.95/month

So apparently, your "must have' channels seems to exceeds your RM93 budget a little bit already.
At least for that RM105 price, you still have Astro AOD, Sports Lite pack (not the complete Sports pack since it includes only Astro SuperSport 1 and 2 only), Fox Sports 3, and others.

So, what do you think?
If you happy with it, just contact their sales agent to apply.
*
Thanks bro. Both options above looks good. I don't mind if the price slightly more than my current price.

For the sport channel, from the experience of these 2 years, it seems the F1 is randomly on fox sport 1 or 2 or 3 rather than fixed at fox sport 3 alone.
Worry will miss the race if just subscribe fox sport 3.
Just wonder can we buy the selected channel for let say by daily or weekly in case i need that?

Also, what's the price for Learning mini pack?

Updated: I think i know how to customise ady.

Hi all, here's my story.

Previously i and my relative install Astro Multiroom in separate 3 premises (i know this is illegal, full stop), i'm the one of the multiroom user.

Now the owner would like to migrate to SG, we went to ownership transfer today. I also closed all the multiroom box axcount and left the main account that come with PVR box.

The thing is, i took her PVR and plug in to my house that with multiroom box previously, the PVR shown 'signal unavailable'. But i confirm the satellite is working fine.

My 1st question, did the PVR box need to pair with the original dedicated satellite dish and can't use the dish in my premise? Hardware issue or setting issue?

Satellite dish is just an equipment to send/receive signal. That's all.
There's no such thing as "pairing" like how you would pair a Bluetooth device for a satellite dish.

1) Check your satellite cable (RG6 cable), make sure it's properly terminated and it's not easily pull out.

2) How many cables being connected to your PVR box? 1 cable or 2 cable? If it's only 1 cable, make sure you've connected to your PVR box's SAT 1 port, not SAT 2 port.

Go to home>Settings>Installation Settings>(Default PIN 0000)>Satellite Settings
Make sure your Input Source is set correctly.
If your satellite dish uses dual LNB, make sure you selected as "LNB" as input source.
If your dish uses SatCR, make sure you selected "SatCR".

3) Based on your screenshots (thankfully), I notice your 10732MHz is Locked (means has signal), but other frequency are NotLocked (means no signal detected).

You might want to check the LNB skew of your LNB on the satellite dish. Loose the screws on the LNB holder, then turn the whole LNB until you get high signal readings.

If still same, then your satellite dish needs to be realigned.
*
You are wrong this time.

I found from internet PVR with dual input need to use splitter in order to solve the signal intermittent issue.

The PVR that i took today did come with splitter however one of the output was spoil, thats why u see only tuner 1 have signal.

I bought a cheap generic splitter, set the signal in PVr box to DCSS and now the PVR works as intended.

Just an update on the issue.

The Astro CS team response to my review in google store and established a whatsapp chat support with me.
They have sent several beta built to let me try and the latest beta built finally solved the issue.

The main culprit is the app miss detect my second selfie screen on the back as 'external monitor'
Unexpected and great work from them, a high quality support they had.

Hey guys, is there any differences in terms of picture quality between satellite dish ultra box vs wifi ultra box?

I finally got 300Mbps unifi fiber at home, in the dilemma of using dish or pure wifi ultra box.

Is the wifi ultra box 60fps??

Yes, but the picture quality difference the two, is considered almost indistinguishable to most of the viewers.
But if you ask me, yes, I do notice the picture quality difference, especially if I stand very close to my TV screen to observe the picture quality (almost as if like I wanna buy new TV at the electrical store).

For those who can't tolerate even the slightest video quality difference between Satellite and Plug & Play platform, then no need to dilemma further, just proceed with Satellite and forget about Plug & Play.

If you can go for Satellite, then go for Satellite.
==
Astro don't use 60fps. They use 50fps according to the PAL 50Hz standard.

You'll still be able to watch smooth 50fps on linear TV channels over Plug & Play platform, but still, the picture quality is still not exactly 100% same as Satellite.
*
Oh, if that's the case, i will opt for satellite then. I'm very particular about picture quality, online content/streaming video normally with come with small amount of compression artifacts or blockiness which i can't tolerate with.

Normally they will use back the same satellite dish right?
I'm using PVR decoder now.

No, with satelite only record via internet, TV solely on satelite, can't switch to wifi during raining. This is what the Astro live chat told me, no?

Anyway, Astro is really fishy.
Current i'm using Super pack 3, RM179/month.

With the new bundle, no matter how i match, cheapest i can get is 140 only.
Example if i choose entertainment pack, add on sport pack alone 60 month as oppose to 20~30/month if i choose premium pack 1... shakehead.gif

Ultra / Ulti Box can only record through internet. They might be referring to your legacy PVR box.

No, PVR confirm can watch and record through satellite only.

Plug and play Ubox - purely internet box
Standard Ubox - Satellite based, record via internet. Cannot switch to internet watching if satellite signal loss during rain.

Yes, it'll use back your existing satellite dish, but the installer will replace a new DCSS LNB for you. It is to allow you to watch Astro UHD channel on your Ultra Box.
LNB is the small little reflector device on your Astro dish. Yes, only that thing will be replaced if you upgrade to Ultra Box.
But for some cases, where those who already been using DCSS LNB prior to this, then they'll just use back the same DCSS LNB as it is.

Seriously coolkwc, that Astro live chat agent told you that? Haihhhh, just another day of Astro where one of its agent gave wrong info to customers, again sweat.gif
I bet that agent must be not well versed enough with all the features and services being offered by the company that they work in.  doh.gif
Whenever the Ulti/Ultra Box having no satellite signals (due to rain), this message will appear, prompting you to switch to Internet to continue watching the particular TV channel you've been watching to.
This feature is called Continuous Viewing (that's what they called it).
user posted image
Once you press Switch Now, and then from this point forward, you'll be watching the channel via Internet connection, and the picture quality will be the same as what Ulti/Ultra Box (Plug & Play) customers get.
When you tune to other TV channels, it will switch back to Satellite mode as per usual.
Because the PVR box is a dual-tuner satellite receiver, which is meant to receive/record 2 channels at a time, and the recording job is done right on your PVR box itself.
For Ulti/Ultra Box however, the recording feature are solely rely on cloud, where the channel is being recorded and stored into Astro's own servers.
Whenever you press Record on your Ulti/Ultra Box or Astro Go, it is just sending instructions to the Astro servers to carry out the recording job for you. That is why you can record unlimited number of channels at a time.
*
Yeah, that live agent told me so...damn.
Well in this case i opt for standard Ubox since i got dual option in one box

I'm not sure about whether my dish got DCSS LNB or not, but my PVR did configured using DCSS LNB in the setting, single coaxial cable from dish split into 2 and input to the PVR tuner

The old Super Pack 3 price after tax should be RM172.80/month. Did you add something else on top of your old Super Pack 3 that makes it RM179?

Refer to this Nov 2021 rate card: https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...ost&p=102870411
What are your must-have channels first? Then from there, I can try advise you on which pack to consider...
*
Must have: Sport, Chinese Variety & Disney Hotstar. Disney hotstar in the sense that i can watch Nat Geo and kids movie without need news and documentary and kids channel subscribed.

Currently my Super pack 3 include almost everything and i don't need it at all.

To be honest, just give me Chinese entertainment (311 AOD and sport for F1) with some basic channel (included anyway) will do, haha

Ohhh.. It seems that you're already using DCSS LNB.
Since you mention Disney+ Hotstar is your must-have, then I assume Movies Pack channels (HBO, Showcase Movies, tvN Movies) are not your must-have channels.... Here's what you may consider:

All prices shown below are for 24 months contract option.

Sports Pack (RM89.99) + Chinese Favourites (RM14.99) + Disney+ Hotstar (RM18.30/month*) = RM123.28 + 6% SST
= Equivalent to RM130.67/month

*Disney+ Hotstar a la carte add-on will be charged one-off RM54.90 for every 3 months. After divide by 3, hence it's equivalent to RM18.30 per month.

Therefore in the real world situation, it shall be like this:
Month 1: RM89.99 + RM14.99 + RM54.90 = RM159.88
Month 2: RM89.99 + RM14.99 = RM104.98
Month 3: RM89.99 + RM14.99 = RM104.98
Month 4: RM89.99 + RM14.99 + RM54.90 = RM159.88
Month 5: RM89.99 + RM14.99 = RM104.98
Month 6: RM89.99 + RM14.99 = RM104.98

Prices shown above excludes 6% SST.

Alternatively, you may also consider subscribe to Disney+ Hotstar separately by yourself at https://www.hotstar.com/my/subscribe/get-started
It is the same price anyway. It's just that if you subscribe through Astro, the RM54.90 will be charged in your Astro bill, make you feel seamless like "you got everything in one bill" instead of charging separately/directly to your debit/credit card.

==========
Or if you think that you also want to have Movies Pack together, then you may consider this:

Premium Pack 1 (RM129.99) + Chinese Favourites (RM14.99) = RM144.98 + 6% SST
= RM153.68/month

Movies Pack itself already bundle with Disney+ Hotstar subscription, so you don't need to add on separately.
*
I got this bro, sport pack can't include Chinese favourite for some unknown reason in their website. I even reduce the cloud storage from 400 to 200h to get this price

i don't know what problem on my Ultra box.

The image on screen keep on and off randomly for every 10-20s, when that happen can see the red light blinking at the ultra box.
Look at the satellite diagnostic, the signal strength is around 75% and 100% quality, SNR 17dB which is at high side, then suddenly go to 0% then back to normal.
Try detach and reattach the cable but can't solve.
The weather is clear now.

The thing is, if the satellite signal is loss due to whatever reason (rain/connection), the box should prompt me to switch over internet, but it just doesn't but video loss intermittently which is annoying.
Try to disconnect the cable, it did prompt to switch over, but if the signal is interrupted for short period it will not. rclxub.gif

Seems like the issue is due to the F connector of your satellite cable. Do it at your own risk, try re-terminate your satellite cable, like this video below:
Lazy to do? Don't know how to do? Need Astro to assign technician over to do for you? Contact Astro customer service, and choose one of the options below:
1) Pay RM65 service fee per installer visit.
2) 12 month contract extension on your Astro account.
3) Scold that Astro CS agent that Astro is good at sucking your money.

If you don't feel like contacting Astro customer service for various of reasons (e.g. no agent answer my call), then you can go Facebook and search keywords like "Astro service installer" followed by your city name.
Example: "Astro service installer cheras"

From there, simply look any one of the Facebook page that advertises Astro installer, contact them and they'll assist you accordingly.
This way, no need to go through Astro customer service. Just deal directly with the Astro installers out there.
This is considered as private hire contractor job, so don't expect people help you for free.
*
Done the re-terminate cable by myself few times already on previous PVR box and twice for this Ultra box, so not an issue to me at all.

Anyway, try to unscrew and screw back the cable yield the same result this afternoon. So i just leave it as it is, and when back on night, everything works fine until now. I even pull and bend the cable termination but everything still work fine, so confirmed is not the termination problem.
Looks to me the problem is on the dish itself, or the transponder, i don't know why.

The actual annoying problem is, the Ultra box should have prompt to switch over internet connection when satellite signal is interrupted, no matter is due to bad weather or bad connection. But it looks like the short interruption is not enough to trigger the firmware as 'satellite loss' hence unable to trigger the switch over mechanism, and because of no option for me to force it to switch over (Unless i unplug the cable), so the live broadcast is unusable which is idiot.

I try to unplug the satellite cable, and it did prompt to switch over internet, so it just the matter of how the firmware interpret it as signal loss.
