Have you tried re-terminate the other end of the cable, which ends at your Astro dish's LNB there?
In between the cable connection to your Astro dish, do you use any cable splitters whatsoever?

If issue persists, then the next culprit would be the faulty LNB.

Of cos not, the astro dish's LNB is on top the roof of my double storey house laugh.gif sweat.gif
No cable splitter, because Ultra box only have one terminal compare to 2 in PVR box previously.

I don't know, the problem should be consistent if LNB is faulty, furthermore they change the LNB when they installed the Ultra box 2 months ago.
I contact CS through whatsapp chat today, they want to appoint technician, but due to the problem is not consistent and the symptom may have gone when they come, i decided to on hold their visit and observe few more days.

So far this problem happen occasionally, previously thought is cable termination issue, so re-terminate and it seems solve the issue, but now i think it just recover coincidence, not really due to termination issue.

Then that's what the installer would do: Go to your roof there where your Astro dish is installed, and re-terminate the cable, and probably using a new F connector as well.

It happens occasionally, yes. I used to experience this issue before, and the issue solves after I re-terminate the cable on either end.

Assuming if LNB is not the issue (since it is newly installed), then the next culprit would be the Ultra Box itself. But IMO it's very unlikely la... Try re-terminate the cable at your dish there first, and observe if issue persists.

I observed how it will happen.

It only happen when the sun outside is hot, whereas overcast/night no issue at all. Must be something related to Satellite end, either termination or LNB. Alreadd talk to CS and wait for their technician to come on Tuesday.

I'm now very headache about my Astro signal suspect caused by the aging coaxial cable.
Currently the cable run from astro box -> coaxial cable -> interconnector -> original conceal coaxial cable from downstair to 2nd floor roof -> interconnector -> dish.

The problem was repeatedly signal loss (blank) and then recover especially at night/cold weather, hot afternoon no problem at all. The signal loss and self recover is so fast that the box won't be able to detect and ask me to switch over to internet, forcing me to unplug the cable to watch using internet connection, this is annoying.

The problem is 1st on the roof connector. It has been changed for 2 times over 6 months, 1st time change by April and the signal loss issue fully solved for 3 to 4 months before hit again on Sep. So i call Astro service again and change the connector again and running fine for a month+ then now back again.
I check the connector at the downstair (1 feet from Astro Ultra box terminal), it seems this connector having issue as well. So i unplug it, clean it and replug and it work flawlessly for few days and today it come back again. So i just unplug and replug again, this time the issue can't be fully solve anymore, it less frequent but still happen occasionally.

I strongly suspect the cable itself could be aging and causing impedance to increase, then followed by 2 interconnectors which further increase the cable loss and now the signal could be at marginal threshold.
The signal strength in the tuner diagnostic shown around 73-75%, with 100% signal quality, while CNR is around 18dB.

Do you think the satellite in-line amplifier can solve the issue? Can this be used for Astro Ultra box? I measure the coaxial power supply is @ 13V. I would like to try this cheap solution before i call the technician again. Hacking and replace the conceal cable, or run a new cable externally definitely not an option here.

Instead of unplug it, clean it and replug, why not replace a new F connector instead? I suspect the main culprit is coming from here...  hmm.gif
Don't use back the same F connector. Try re-terminate this part of the RG6 cable with a new F connector, or ask a wireman to do it for you.

I know how to re-terminate it, as i tried few times at the Astro decoder previously. Yup, will try to replace this as well, even thinking to permanent solder it.. only reason i didn't do that is due to limited length protruded from the conceal wall, how many time i can re-terminate it since having limited length only. But i think will order the in-line amp to try since is cheap.

"Permanent solder"? Or you mean you want to use a crimping tool to crimp the RG6 cable? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2SbbWHH9ek0
Using the crimping tool is the more proper way actually...

I done that before. Yes, is solder. In electronics world, any form of connection/extension through connector is going to introduce contact resistance to it even it is new due to contact area/contact retention force/mating conductor type. The contact resistance will eventually increase after aging and environment corrosion causing a thin layer of oxidation form on the contact. The best way is to get rid of the interconnector, or permanent connect it by soldering. But anyway waiting for the in-line amp now.

Astro signal after install the in-line amplifier.
Works brilliantly, definitely not a gimmick.
