More competition for astro 😈😈😈

interesting...

“Nowadays, all you need to do is just sit on your sofa, flip the channels on TV and you can see the difference in the quality of the programmes and the presentation.

i m glad menteli knows what he is talking about.
rtm1,2-tv3-tv8-tv9 no better.
u may not believe it, i sometimes find it hard to believe too- via internet, i can get UK tv channels in HD reliably compared to the very poor local ones.
u wonder where the hell all that budget spending went year after year over the decades.

QUOTE
As at its first financial quarter (1Q) ended April 30, 2018, Astro is presently available in 5.5 million households, or 75% of the country’s households.

really... that high still? maybe incl astrogo, njoi, ahem axtro..?!

Where the budget allocated went to?? U know leh... Songlap here & there... Claimed extra from actual cost...

Yup. It including all type of astro... Illegal not included because the authorities don't know the figure tongue.gif
*
menteli should open up payTV, stop any monopoly.

more netflix, hbo, amazon, sky, whatever.

only then will astro and unifitv buck up.

the rest.. cut their funding, since they only want to do nothing.

Android TV OS also has the Astro go app I believe. But it's a little sluggish.
*
no, smart tv with androidtv does not have astrogo approved in the playstore.

but... u can sideload it together with a couple of other tricks.

works well, in HD, been using it for some time now.

besides androidtv tv's, i read only the current smart LG models can do astrogo, no other.

I wonder if it will be allowed to show the UHD feeds if indeed this is how Astro plans to roll out UHD .
*
astro has never been known for generosity.

i wud think when they roll out UHD for the decoders, they will charge for it, just like they charge for HD.

then for astrogo, if the subscriber pays for UHD, users of this subscriber's account may get UHD too.

UHD is no big deal as far as speed is concerned - netfllix 4k only requires 25mbps; sky UK, Bein in europe have all gone UHD.

(only rtm and the rest still stuck with SD even after spending/wasting the billions.)

Help guys, I am going gila soon!

I'm using centralized satellite. One month ago, my Astro suddenly cannot be booted up.

Replace with a new Astro decoder, now no longer Samsung, but China brand, made in Thailand decoder given by Astro.

With the new decoder, I am having two issues:-
- sudden lost of sound
- hdmi error 60

As I've a tv box, I've tested for a week or so, and both having lost of sound issue.

As such, just a few days ago, I've change my tv motherboard.

Lost of sound is solved with the change of new tv motherboard.

But the hdmi error 60 remained. Ironically, my tv box has no hdmi issue at all.

Assuming this should be Astro decoder issue, today get Astro to change to new decoder and new hdmi cable.

After watching for a few hours, the hdmi error 60 appeared again.

The hdmi error will go away when I switch off either Astro decoder or tv power adapter, and switch on again.

But this hdmi error 60 will appear intermittently, whenever it like.

When this error appeared, I got no problem watching sd channel. All HD channel will be blank screen with sound only.

What should I do now? I am clueless!

Should I buy 24k gold plated hdmi to test? Or switch hdmi port?

Could it be due to centralized satellite cable issue?

My friend staying in the same condo, different block and unit is having the same hdmi issue, but not frequent, only once or twice per month.

Previously using Astro Samsung decoder, there is lost of audio n video intermittently on certain HD channel(some channel like 300 n 306 can watch, but 332 n 532 cannot watch), but SD channel has no problem. When this happened, I go to stb diagnostics, there is lost of signal, it appeared 65%, then 0% within seconds. Switch off Astro decoder or tv power cable not able to solve this issue. The problem will go away itself after a few minutes while i switch to watch sd channel.

As for my current hdmi error 60 issue, I go stb diagnostics, no lost of signal, signal is stable.

I do not know if it's related, but just telling everything I observed and tested.

Please help  icon_question.gif

i tend to agree with u.

tv's aren't a problem usually since astro feed is 1080i only.
and hdmi cables are a lesser issue, ven cheap ones can handle such streams.

u probably got to find astro fellas, change decoder.

The CEO designate of Astro, Henry Tan said the bundled proposition will allow subscribers to enjoy their favourite shows on demand via set top boxes as well as through connected devices such as mobile phones and tablets.

Jasin is the pilot project, targeting about 1,100 homes in an area where Astro has a strong 92% household penetration comprising Astro and NJOI customers.

Astro is offering 50 Mbps and 100 Mbps broadband services at a special price of RM 99 and RM 129 respectively from  Feb 1.

This fee will include Astro’s Family Pack content which has more than 40 channels, including Astro Ria, Astro Prima, Astro Arena, Astro Awani, Astro AEC, Astro Xiao Tai Yang, NatGeo WILD, and FOXlife, among others.

rm129 100mbps with these channels will give Unifi a run for the money.

but doesn't say if it will ride on unifi infra like maxis or some other cable, satellite?

there are ahem providers charging for pirated axtro channels... for years now... do u not notice?

QUOTE(SzeMeng76 @ Jan 29 2019, 12:44 PM)
I think they only can ban those "ahem" iptv app/bundled ahem iptv boxes.
Android Box itself not illegal what..  rolleyes.gif
*
i think so too.
i suppose they can ban, fine, arrest sellers who sell boxes with pre-installed apps that do infringe copyrights.
empty boxes or boxes with legit apps should not be a problem.
anyway, if blanket ban, it should also apply to android phones and tablets... biggrin.gif

we'll see what SG will do...

You can now download the HBO Go app

Malaysians with an Astro Movies Pack subscription can finally download the HBO Go app and watch shows and movies on the move.

The app is available on both the Google Play and Apple App stores, and the service is also accessible via the website www.hbogoasia.my.

Users will be able to watch HBO original series like Game Of Thrones, The Wire, Veep and Westworld, as well as Hollywood movies, documentaries and cartoons.

Previously, selected HBO content was available through the Astro Go app and website.

HBO Go allows users to download up to 20 shows for offline viewing and the app supports Airplay and Chromecast for streaming content to a bigger screen. Users can also view HBO Go on two concurrent streams.

Astro says in a press statement that the content will be offered in full HD if available.

Non-Astro Movies pack subscribers will only be able to view content under the Without Registration tab. However, they will be limited to 40-second preview clips, behind the scenes featurettes and trailers for upcoming shows.

To gain access to the full library, they will have to commit to an Astro Movies Pack subscription which starts from RM71.95 for the Movies Bundle package. The subscription includes HBO, Cinemax and Fox Movies.

New users will also have to pay a one-time installation fee of RM199, which will be reduced to RM99 if they agree to a 24-month contract. The offer comes with a HD decoder.

Yikes. Can't they have another option so subscribers can get HBO GO for less?

Can't they offer HBO and HBO HD as a separate pack like the others out there?
Starhub (SG) and Indihome (ID) do offer separate HBO packs with complimentary access to HBO GO for less than RM 20 - 45.

Oh, wait. You can't. There are no separate HBO packs for Astro because it's not possible.

hbo rights been bought by astro, will be under astro.

maybe the day will come hbo does it alone here like netflix... then customer subscribe/pay standalone.

astro can start astrogo or hbo go as a standalone IPTV biz for new customers but i guess they dun want to - prefer control over the decoders.

i guess they have exclusive contract here with Astro

deswai Unifi don't have HBO channels
*
i dunno if it is exclusive... possible others can do.
ministry already said 2-3 other licences given but they don't do it!
maybe market too small..?

FOX channels, for example, appear in both Astro and UnifiTV.
UnifiTV won't give more, only less... becos as it is, the way they price the packages, everybody seems to say they wanna dump it, save money!
the truth is, maybe... malaysians are too poor... unable to pay for premium shows, live sports in HD.
so, we get the poor ones only...

Maybe that time is beta so not many users.
Plus Fox will not even notice Astro did that.
Now official release have to remove all of that.
But at least we know it is possible to beam all Astro channels to the internet.
And also Unifi did have all Fox channels on their playTV platform, but after a few months they remove it.
Maybe someone at Fox did not like it.
*
Fox movie and sports channels are available on unifi playtv, no change.

That sucks. It's really convenient to have it available thru the smart TV OS. I believe BBC and iTV have similar apps in the UK and I wish it is offered even as a paid app as a option to those who don't want the physical 2nd decoder.
*
it appears astro its doing its best to disallow/discourage use of the astrogo app direct on any smart TV.

besides stopping the app on LG, the sonys and sharps running on AndroidTV are also affected.

the old app was/is fine... but new app version has a serious problem - the live HD channels are jerky, unwatchable.

come 30 Sep, i suspect the old app will be killed off too.

fortunately, the new app works fine on many boxes, incl cheap ones.

I guess if all else fails, then it would mean people actually sideloading the new app to android boxes. Does it work well on the Q10 pro?

yes.

this box, u can actually install from playstore direct unlike others that need to be sideloaded.
