the new unifiplus black box can be used on any wifi.

but it still unclear if the bit rate is still low (2-3mbps) like the old unifiplaytv app which also can be used on many 3rd party devices/boxes, any wifi.

if same quality, it's of little use since that black box is priced at rm240 whereas u can get a cheaper/better 3rd party box to do same.

comparing unifi playtv with astrogo, astrogo hd quality much better.

will have to see if new unifiplaytv app will be improved to astrogo level.

last old Astrogo version used to work on smart ATV's although it wasn't optimized.
current version works very badly, unwatchable for live HD streams.
this goes to show astro has no desire to have this app work on smart tv's like netflix.
i agree it will be great if they sell astrogo standalone and not tie it to "free with decoder subscription".
but i guess they won't as that will cannabalize their current decoder customers.

then, we also have unifi now gradually pushing unifitv users towards their new plusbox.
the app is designed NOT to work on other ATV boxes or smart ATV's alto the app is using ATV os on that plusbox.
still, people have cracked and modified the app to use as they like.

to sum it up... our local players are so used to monopolistic control methods, they simply won't move to a more open environment.
perhaps a reflection of the way things are done locally, for decades.

correct, and it works on wifi, no need vlan.

it works much like a common android app, except that it is built to work work only on that box (some people have cracked it).

the sacrifice is the video quality is lower than old dedicated STB - according to several users.

i wud think this app on plusbox should be compared to astrogo app rather than astro iptv.

i have not migrated to new plus box yet, still using old STB and old playtv app.

compared to old playtv app, astrogo PQ is FAR BETTER! i mean the HD channels.

i wud expect the plusbox PQ to be somewhere between old STB and old playtv app but inferior to astrogo.

will be crying to to mcmc, putrajaya.... no, cannot, never...!

not to drag too long on it.. just the essentials:

1. i have 2 smart ATV tv's - old astrogo worked fine, was happy with it... until the current version came, can't use.
afaik, there is no TV that will work well with this new app version. so, RIP for astrogo direct on smart TVs.

2. fret not... there are plenty of boxes incl cheap ones that will work with current astrogo.

mind you, cheap ones get poorer PQ, better ones get better PQ.
those that dun work at all are the rooted ones, old ones, very poor firmware ones.

3. current astrogo works fine on chrome (windows only... i remember a mac user say cannot).. u just need to cast it to TV with chromecast, full screen.
bug or not... a secret for u... using windows chrome to chromecast to TV does not count as one of the 4 allowed.

no need pc, what not... compact boxes can do.... rm100, 1000... yr choice... just need to get the correct one(s).
