It seems Hotstar SG and Hotstar ID is way different.
Hotstar SG is more focused more on Indian content whereas ID version have more Western content plus Indonesian made content.
*
And minus the Disney+ part. Although, I'm expecting D+ to launch in Singapore in around 2021 and we still have 2 months left before that year.

And Vietnam.

Oof. Did they leave from Vietnam as well?
Welp, looks like FX's fate has just started counting down, now that FNG has decided to stop airing promos from the channel on their other channels as well.

My biggest rumours might have come true that FX and Fox Crime might be leaving Asia very soon. Fox Crime has been airing repeats with no new programming since last 2018.
I'm afraid that FX could follow suit and end up ceased broadcast in 2021.

But, let's hope that FX could have a second chance soon and let's put these rumours aside as rumours that might come true sooner or later.

Why bolehland can't have the same? laugh.gif

That's an actually good offer that Astro should offer to its loyal subscribers.

Also, I looked at the T&Cs, on KA's offer, and they said they should paid all the bills (and penalties, if any) and don't forget the power adaptor, remote and HDMI cable.
Why? Because this offer is only valid for HD decoders only, not legacy decoders. And must be in working condition.

And if they're eligible for a buyback, they would get B$50 cash per STB. That's around 152.35 ringgit or 530,889 rupiah.
That's quite a lot for an unused set-top box. brows.gif

Was wondering...since astro take amazon Prime movies in Best/First slot, why won't they done for the serials one over ABO? icon_idea.gif

I don't think that would work. Could be exclusive to On Demand only.
Heck, just add Prime Video to the Astro roster of VOD, that should work, or not. rclxub.gif

It seems like Astro is replacing three Disney channels that will be ceased on 31 Dec with Nick Jr and Boomerang. I wonder whether Astro will provide multiple audio tracks for Boomerang since the Unifi TV one only has English audio.

And, yes, Fam TV is Astro's new pop up channel (temporary only).

Wait, what? After over 23 years, Astro finally dropped those Disney channels?

Is this a possibility that Disney+ is coming to Malaysia soon?

I think only Astro plans to cease the Disney channels (except Disney XD) in Malaysia. I see the promo that Disney Channel will premiere Wreck It Ralph 2 on Jan 1 (the next day after Astro ceased the channel). Indonesia still keeps the Disney channels after the launch of Disney+ Hotstar.
*
So that means... The remaining countries to have Disney Channel Asia left is the Philippines, Indonesian, Thailand, and Vietnam.
I can definitely sense of who's leaving next, since Disney+ is coming to Singapore next year.

Huh, interesting. A bug happened before the new kids channel is coming tomorrow.
Imagine previewing the channel entirely before it goes to the slide again.

We are continuously refreshing our portfolio of content and services. This means we have to make hard choices and update our line-up from time to time. As such, Star Bharat, StarPlus, STAR Gold, Star Vijay and Star Cricket channels will be discontinued on 31 January 2021, 11.59pm.
You may access content from Star Vijay, StarPlus and Star Bharat on the Hotstar app, which is available at no extra cost when you recontract to the new Indian+ from $15/month. With Indian+, you can continue to enjoy your favourite Indian channels from Sun TV, Sony Entertainment, Zee TV and more, as well as access to over 85,000 hours of Indian shows, movies and LIVE Cricket action on the Hotstar streaming service.
What about Mio TV ?
*
I think they're not affected by this. This was Starhub's decision. Not Star India's. Not FNG's.
While Starhub's decision to drop all Star India channels was pretty much a cost-cutting decision in order for Indians to subscribe to Hotstar SG, I'm sure that Singtel still have the right to keep them for their subscribers.

Well, at least they did their best to put on Dora and T&J on the stills.
And they are (allegedly) "politely" telling them that they still have choices other than Disney, because Disney+ could be coming to Malaysia in the next 12 months.
Not this whole "Please be informed *insert channel name* has ceased transmission" thing that got many Astro subbers confused and trying to find answers in the past.

Hmm... it seems like all FOX channels will stay on air in Southeast Asia since Disney+ Star will only feature television and movies from Disney Television Studios (20th Television and ABC Signature), FX Productions, and 20th Century Studios besides Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and Nat Geo's shows. That means shows from NBC, The CW, CBS, Showtime and Starz will not be added to the app.

Meanwhile in Indonesia, not sure if Disney+ Hotstar will probably rebrand to just Disney+ once Star comes to the platform, or they just stay that way.
Seeing how some contents don't usually fall under Disney+, but under Hotstar's moniker. Besides the Disney+ Originals, ofc.

Possibly, they'll move to Paramount+, but not sure if they'll be available in the S.E.A region anytime soon.
For now, we'll just watch on Netflix, then.

So, about Comedy Central closing down in Asia.
Does the channel itself air its own 'farewell message' as well?

HBO India did, and it was real sad.

EDIT: Do check on CC Asia's FB page if they did show those farewell messages.

Even my pay-TV provider is silent and they didn't know what channels that are going away from the lineup.

Like recently, they just replaced the old-as-heck Fashion One channel (old, because they repeat the same contents from years ago) with the TV5MONDE Style channel which has more modest content, but it's mostly in French, although there should be some subtitles in some programs.

I wonder what comes up next after Comedy Central ceases on my platform. unsure.gif

Nice, Astro made Comedy Central's shows available on demand. Then Singapore and Indonesia, how?

QUOTE(fandom96 @ Jan 20 2021, 07:35 PM)
So sad that they have no plan for replacement channel. I know its not they fault but still, the channel is under a pay-package. Astro, did you forgot that you kick Fox and Fox Life from Variety pack? Now what's left? đŸ˜© Nat Geo People with repeat shows, WarnerTV, FX, K-Pop MTV, DMAX, Ci and HGTV which originally in Metro Pack. DMAX, Ci and HGTV are channels that Astro should consider to cease or made as On Demand Exclusive though, maybe in the future when Discovery decided to close down theirs.
*
I would suggest that Astro should add, or at least, replace DMAX with Insight TV (insight.tv), and HGTV with Makeful. These two can be a plausible alternative had if Discovery closed their channels in Malaysia.

CI... I'm not sure, because it's the only crime-focused channel on Astro.

Btw, Paramount Channel Asia will be rebranded as Paramount Network starting from 1st February 2021. All Comedy Central shows and certain Paramount+ shows will be aired on the channel. Unifi PlayTV app has updated the schedule.

Also, Singtel TV (SG) will launch the channel on 1st February 2021.

Ooh, neato. When Comedy Central ceases, Paramount Network arrives to the rest of Asia!
Why? Because Philippines already have Paramount Channel few weeks in advance before Singapore does. (And Thailand, too.)

Oop, my bad. Forgot to tell you why.

Today, CC Asia will be shutdown at midnight. And, in the Philippines, Cignal TV has already launched a new channel, Paramount Network just a few weeks back (on Jan. 4). And from the lineup, it is looking promising, featuring shows never aired before, as well as some Comedy Central shows.

(Sauce: https://cignal.tv/channels/209/paramount-network)

So, I'm guessing that this will replace Comedy Central in some platforms. But Astro? Not so much, as they have said "NO NEW REPLACEMENT CHANNELS" when the closure was announced.

QUOTE(jackytan.tt @ Feb 7 2021, 01:45 PM)
Yes, but in 2017, I guess FOX Networks Group decided to unify them under one name, FOX.

But now that Disney owns the FNG subsidiary, they want to “unify” them under one brand, whilst separating further from FOX Corp (that or to avoid confusion). So ideally they should find a nice name. That name happens to be Star, but there’s only one problem: their other subsidiary, Star India, is using the name. So they decide to steal it from them, and replace it with “Utsav” instead (which means celebration in Hindi). Now, they get away with using the Star brand to rebrand FNG.
*
This should bring back the good old Star TV days. The reason why Disney did this was because they saw the word 'Fox' relates to their news outlet, Fox News and his owner, Rupert Murdoch, which was notorious for his heinous actions.

One person even told Variety that "I think the Fox name means Murdoch, and that is toxic.", which was why it was the reason Disney wants to remove the 'Fox' brand off their channels, and replace it with Star.

Seems plausible enough. hmm.gif

Yeah, one company is a conservative, the other liberal. It’s all political.

The Star name has a history of its own, so rebranding it back to what it was would be a great idea.

Though, they could’ve retained the FOX name had Murdoch not sold 21st Century FOX in the first place. But why did he sell it?
*
Good question.

According to the BBC, "Disney wants Fox's business to create a larger suite of movies, television shows, and sports, as it invests in its own online streaming platforms to compete with Netflix and Amazon."

Then Disney dropped the Fox brand, so that Fox could focus more on their broadcast network in the US, as well as their news outlets as mentioned earlier. Disney picked up the 20th Century division where Fox had left off, to avoid confusion with the “Fox Entertainment” brands, though Disney can legally use the Fox name.

For example, Fox Searchlight was renamed to Searchlight Pictures, 20th Century Fox was rebranded to just 20h Century Studios, and so on. And now, Disney has planned to rebrand their Fox channels to Star, as Disney+ will introduce the Star brand later this month.
