Sorry for the confusion 🙏🙏🙏
My definition of "upscaling" is where the source content (e.g. HD) is being video enhanced to make it look slightly near 4K-like quality as a result when the STB outputs as 2160p.
Basically what I'm trying to say is, yes, you could say that the Ultra Box scales/render the HDMI output resolution as 2160p all the time, regardless of source content quality (i.e 576i or 1080p). However, just don't expect any picture enhancement as a result where STB scales/render the video content as 2160p.
That is what ultra box do. Upscale 720p/1080i content to 2160p. What does it suppose to do when perform upscaling? It should like you mention try to enhanced the video in some extent to make it to 2160p resolution. How good ultra box does the upscaling job depends on the source and capability of the hardware itself. My definition of "upscaling" is where the source content (e.g. HD) is being video enhanced to make it look slightly near 4K-like quality as a result when the STB outputs as 2160p.

Generally almost all TV have better scaler than the scaler in tv box. That was my original intent to let TV do the upscaling.
I guess this is not what ultra box can do. It has fixed resolution output. It can "upscale" or "downscale" channels to the selected fixed output resolution. But it lacks resolution passthrough support. There is no option to bypass the scaler in ultra box.
