My guess the function is same as the old smart card, just smaller size which is similar to sim card as we use for mobile phone. The installer use the word 'sim card' which also make me curious.  hmm.gif  I will check the manual book when I'm home.

Yes, just the LNB receiver, still using the same dish for byond.
I'm on superpack 1, RM150++

No, still use HDMI cable to connect to TV and also cable connected from power supply . The picture is from the box, I didn't manage to snap photo of  the actual decoder as I was in rush. It's very small, save space.  thumbup.gif
*
I can't imagine if you put that sim card to your mobile phone. Don't know got any service or not.. laugh.gif
I though they use some so like userID and password (like U company) then able to watch channels..

And yet still use simcard.. That's really lamb.. sweat.gif

Maybe true 😏
Since Astro ARPU getting lower & more customers downgrade their package...
*
I don't think their ARPU getting lower since they have njoi service in the market.

QUOTE(stephantsen @ Aug 22 2019, 11:18 AM)
dont know what astro think, even they ask mcmc to block this and block that they dream that customer will subscribe them? They are naive, this will make people rage on them and the final winner will be netflix, iflix or viu. who want pay such a high fees on rubbish content.
*
If again those flix flix also need mcmc to block it, it will make more worst ppl will bang the table to mcmc there...

QUOTE(joshhd @ Aug 22 2019, 04:01 PM)
If it's curbing content piracy, then it is a right thing to do, although it does restrict the people's freedom to access to pirated content online, but it protects the content creator's intellectual property rights and copyrights.

Yes, Astro would benefit from government's initiatives and MCMC to curb online content piracy in various of ways, but it doesn't change the fact that many people would choose not to subscribe to Astro if its overall services remain as what it is now. If many Malaysians doesn't like Astro, they'll resort to alternatives such as subscribing to OTT services like Netflix, iflix and others, or choose not to subscribe to any OTT services as they might be enjoy entertainment somewhere else, such as Facebook, YouTube, and others. This is about consumer behaviour already.

Eventually, many Malaysians would find that not having an Astro subscription is not a necessity also.
Because Astro has been monopolised the pay TV market for decades, for sure they'll "dictate" as much as they can.

Government and MCMC should also focus on not just ways to curb piracy, but also ways to curb any form of content monopolisation on pay TV providers, particularly Astro, such as not allowing Astro to be a exclusive and sole operator in certain major sports event and content, as well as certain premium pay TV channels.

Android box itself is not "illegal", but if the Android box is used to access to piracy content, that particular Android box could be deemed as illegal.
If MCMC would block access on those, they shall block on illegal IPTV streaming services instead of banning Android boxes altogether, and that is if they are serious in curbing content piracy instead of wanting Astro to gain more profit.

But at the end of the day, consumer is the boss and the one to decide.
*
It is true that current trend of consumers have a right to go outsource or other service to stream. Oh well, this is powerful of INTERNET.
No matter you block this, block that.. Rather sekali Unifi TV (consider as IPTV) block for it.. dry.gif

And based on the current market (Majority in worldwide), most of the payTV/satellite TV/cable TV (not fiber one) lost the revenue because subscriber cable-cut the subscriptions. Most of the ppl majority mentioned that "I less watch TV at home. Everything is portable already, I back home and watch tv around 4 or 5 hours per day. What about the rest of the hours? Yes, the box is in idle time and in standby mode only".

Time is money. Subscribers are getting smart nowadays.. Imagine your subscriptions is RM100/mth..
1 month = 720 hours.

That means 1 hour cost you RM0.14.
But you only watch 5 hours (a day) = 150 hours (a month)
And you actually really watch RM21/mth.. What about another RM79/mth?? Well, you put the box in standby mode and updating software. It's seems like your updating software is more important than watch tv.

By the way, the above is just a statics consumer behavior..
Please correct me if my above statement is wrong.

It's look like 3-in-1 by using satellite dish, iptv plus fish antenna.
If any signal interruptions, don't know is which signal issued.. rclxub.gif

If pay RM300 one time off can watch for FREE (include premium channel) for a year, then consider still can acceptable.
But if need to pay monthly, then hope company can absorb the cost of RM300.. It become double cost with installation plus monthly subscriptions.

I think should open the new thread exclusively of Sirius for open discussions.
Rather than discuss in this thread.

By the way, some people will confuse astro is equal to Sirius.
But in fact, Sirius is nothing relationship with astro.

oh Malaysia the only country with HD feed...
I'm surprise with astro actually... they want to cut operational & content cost.... but they ask Colours to have dedicated HD feed for Astro... No bad...
*
It is the same thing they ceased the channels, and replace new channels with HD.
So the operation and content cost won't be increase a lot, just the replacement channels.

Nowadays paytv also monitoring for the viewership statistic (Like a boss). And keep squishing the broadcast tv programs (like a guli) to provide better content quality to paytv. So paytv will willing continue to support.

Else, you are out. Next month say bye bye to you this broadcast tv programs. I (Paytv) will come back if customers still need that channels.
You (broadcast tv company like FOX, DISCOVERY) better work hard, I will come back if I need you.. flex.gif

What about those who don't have subscribe HD service, able to watch too?

Astro may be generous, but they aren't loyal.
No free previews given.

Same like the HD-PVR service service, the HD channels are based on your package subscription.

Example if you subscribe to Variety pack, then you can watch the HD version of CI (Crime and Investigation) channel on CH 716. You can't watch those new HD channels if you don't subscribe to HD-PVR Service.
*
Then OK for it.. As long as I not need to add cost HD service again..
Because the variety pack is tied link to SD of CI (Crime & Investigation). If SD ceased, then should auto move to HD version whenever I don't have subscribe HD service.

QUOTE(nexona88 @ Oct 15 2019, 01:29 PM)
only those subcribe to HD services can view them.
astro not doing social services but business entities  dry.gif
*
Speechless to comment.
but now already 2020 century, then the HD service price should drop RM10 since UHD coming soon..

QUOTE(nexona88 @ Oct 15 2019, 02:14 PM)
according to astro..
there's still subscribers on CRT TV & legacy Box  doh.gif
*
This one cannot relied customer using what type of TV.
As long as can support orange, white and red port color, then it's done.

If CRT TV cannot make a resolutions for HD, then subscribers need to do something about tv..

I still see people with HD TV connect to Astro using RCA cable instead of HDMI. Never underestimate the lack of technical abilities of Malaysians :V
*
Perhaps they don't have HDMI cable, so use RCA cable connect to astro.
Well~ That totally waste of the bill to pay HD service with connect RCA cable.

No comment to technical teams because they only focus have signal with screen display, then DONE their job~
They don't focus on tv quality picture.

QUOTE(joshhd @ Oct 16 2019, 11:48 AM)
No this model is not PVR.
It's the HD box, from another brand.

They use DCSS so that in the future if they upgrade to PVR box, no need change new LNB or install new cables. Just plug n play, done. They wanna future proof la, basically.
No more whatever signal conflict or another Tuner become no signal, all those issues will be a thing of the past. All thanks to DCSS LNB.
*
So that means this new type of HD box also not using smart card anymore? Is it same like ultra box using SIMcard for it?
I just curious this box, because it's look slightly better than samsung one.. But I just wondering how durable of new type HD box.. unsure.gif

Welcome to Malaysia's censorship guidelines.  rclxms.gif

If they do it on Malay programme, it might be understandable.
But if such censorship applies also in Chinese content, it just doesn't make sense.

Then they should make it blur, but not directly "jump"..
Like U TV, they always blur it.. Expert them everything make it blur... whistling.gif

You won't be surprise got Malay ppl also watch Chinese content.. So standardized "jump" it. yawn.gif

It's over-pricing.. It's OK allow for tied contract 24 mths since the equipment might costly.. But since we pay mth subscriptions fees within 24 months, no point to charge again installation fee... sweat.gif

It is upon customer's request. If customer want all boxes (including Multiroom) to upgrade to Ultra Box, then they'll upgrade it for you.

There's a way to avoid that RM199 installation fee.
Simply choose a combination of any packages/services you want (e.g. Sports, Movies pack), just to make it reach RM100/month mark (excluding SST). Once upgraded to the package, after 1 billing cycle, tell Astro to upgrade to Ultra Box with no installation fees since your subscription appears to be above RM100/month.
Once you've upgraded to Ultra Box, then you downgrade to the packages that you previously had that costs lower than RM100/month. No penalties will be charged for downgrading packages, as long you don't cancel HD-PVR service or terminate entire Astro the service.

There you go, cheaper way to avoid paying RM199 installation fees.
*
QUOTE(smileguy @ Nov 18 2019, 10:05 AM)
I stand corrected. From what I know once we sign up for anything  without installation fee based on packs above rm100 we hv to maintain that pack hmm.gif
*
Thanks and appreciate your advice..
So total cost for that particular month RM106 (Incl tax) to upgrade ultra.. Save 93 buck.. (from installation 199)
But after next month downgrade pack charge service RM10 (correct me if I'm wrong sweat.gif ), then deduct from saving 93 buck.. Then total saving RM83..

If I'm not mistake there are less than 5 UHD channels.. So still a bit not worth..
Unless in-coming extra 5 more UHD channels, then might be consider. hmm.gif

QUOTE(skycrew @ Nov 18 2019, 11:45 AM)
more than 100.

i got rm25 rebate every month

if i upgrade to ultra box, im no longer entitled for the rebate
*
Same too mine one also rebate rm25...
Never mind lah.. Wait extra 5 more channels UHD available. Then u can upgrade too at that time also won't late..

Plus saw from 4K tv market price not cheap at all.. doh.gif

How do you trigger this message to appear? Is it like, it'll pop up again every time you change channel, or every time you wake up from standby mode, or how?

Btw you can discuss anything about Astro here, including legacy Astro box.

I think number 4 high chance possible.
It's last man standing, even the Sirius don't have any weapon/powerful channels or prices to compete.

Unifi I don't think so any in-coming channels, coz the broadcast fee quite expensive.
They prefer more focus fiber.

few minutes later, received call again from Astro, telling will change to ultra box for free, but then renew 2 years contract... wt*? immediately tell them buzz off, not going to change liao. like many of u, if my parent willing to move to android box or netflix/similar services, long time i chop astro already. if no fee upgrade ultra box then can do, if mau charge even 1sen ... over my dead body.

May I know your monthly subscriptions how much?

Rm50 or really 50c ??

If 50cent, then I also want to know his/her month subscriptions how much first.
If the monthly subscriptions affordable for me, perhaps can consider transfer my name (if he/she want to chop down..)

I think my account also soon need to chop down once the period of offer is nearly end.

QUOTE(joshhd @ Jan 1 2020, 02:04 PM)
Happy new year everyone...

As DIVA and E! channel ceases on 1 Jan, so many Astro customers asking the same question. This is the official reply from Astro:
For those who just came here and still not aware what happened:

Like it or not, it is the channel provider's decision (NBC Universal, that operates DIVA and E! channels) to cease the channels across South East Asia. So not only Astro are affected, even pay TVs from other SEA countries like Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand are affected too. So in other words, Astro can't do anything also. It's not that Astro want it to cease also.
So, do your research first before you blame Astro for any channel cessation.
Comedy Central is Astro's decision as a form of channel replacement for E! channel.
For DIVA channel, nothing. So you can say, 2 channels in exchange into only 1, while still same package rates.
Your subscription requires Variety pack and HD service to watch Comedy Central.
You're not the only one complain about this, and this is not the first time Astro doing this too. And it's no point even you complain to whichever parties, like MCMC for example.
In Astro T&C, they are not committed and obligated to replace any channels that are being ceased for whatever reasons. So when Astro decides to bring Comedy Central channel, you can actually assume that this is simply just their act of goodwill.

If you're not happy, feel free to terminate Astro as long you have no outstanding contracts.
And, you need to give a 30 days advance notice to Astro that you want to terminate. So you can't just terminate it with immediate effect just because you want it now.
*
This is the way to explain details to the customers. (To be transparent, don't hide and everything disclosure~)
ASTRO, please learn for him. bruce.gif

We (as a customers) pay for the subscriptions, so we are the part of the shareholders. cool2.gif
This is NO WAY to hide if any issued, OR the way push here push there.

Respect you again. notworthy.gif

By the way, no wonder I cannot watch Comedy channel since it's variety pack..
Haizz... Nowadays channel's provider also hard to survive.

Consumer behavior changing too rapid..
