Got my new Dell laptop with 256 GB SSD. The OS and pre-installed programs take up about 30GB of space. Less than what I expected . Good.

How do I know whether this SSD has a pre-installed software to limit usage to leave 10% space free (to prolong the life of the SSD)?

If nothing on that has been pre-installed, what software can you recommend?

Thanks.

P/S Maybe it was 130 GB and not 30 GB.

30GB would not be enough after some time, a lot residue files plus many program also copy files to user/app folder. Then when big Windows update it need 8-10GB free space.

I recommend at least 50GB for C:, but better if 100GB so no need to bother about running out of space for a very long time.

Check what brand and model the SSD is and then check the manufacturer website whether they have any software for the SSD.

1 or 2 AAA games will do just fine...

30G is a bit tight really. Unless you don't mind see the bar always red laugh.gif laugh.gif
40G is sufficient. Been running that size since forever.

If your using Edge & noticed your C drive suddenly full / used up tons of space,
get WinDirStat software to check which folder took up too much space.
It is possibly Edge streaming cache causing problem.

Plan to get a laptop with SSD 256 GB with Win 10 home basic.

Worry that may be too tight for normal use (just word processing, excel etc with limited games).

Appreciate feedback from those who are using SSD 256 GB Win 10 now.

Thanks.

Mine 128G. No problem. Still have 70G free.

Using 256 gb SSD for my W10; lots of space left even after putting in 1 or 2 modern day games of 40gb each.

Use my normal HDD for all the other movies and games that I don't play often. Works well!

Just installed 480GB Kingston A400. Only Windows 10 OS + some necessary drivers and software. Occupy about 30GB.
Get one for yourself and you wont have to worry about storage anymore.
I bought it @ RM268. You can get it now around RM275-290.
