i was on pcgame.com.my and i came across the 'localised version' of stalker.

has anyone purchased this version or any of the other localised ones? whats the diff with the ones that are normal priced (120++) cuz the localised ones are only 79ish. glad to see them coming out with more affordable authentic games. thailand's had them for like a decade, was wondering when the gamers here would be as lucky smile.gif anyways, input please!!

I have the localized version of Stalker. Differences are merely aesthetic as the box cover, manual and disc cover are all in BM (Translation is pretty decent) but the game itself is in English and is the same as the regular version.

Most localised games only differ in box cover and maybe bundles accesories and so on. Unless an established company decides to localise a game or that the game isn't very complicated or requires alot of changes you wouldn't be seeing much of localised games with bahasa Melayu.

Supreme Commander is another game that has a localised version.

Anyway, this localised version is a great way for distributor companies to make games more affodable here in Malaysia. Of course, for them to continue with their efforts, they need sales. So, go buy a localised version today! wink.gif

If you dont mind about the packaging and manuals and translations and stuffs which is "outside of the game", the big reduction of price is actually worth it since the content of the game is similar with the imported versions.

In danger of turning this OT, what is 'Malaysian English'?

In light of this though I find it really weird how Malaysians themselves are kinda unsupportive when it comes to the country's national language. Take a look at Japan and China (to name a few), they are so proud of their national language and if we let them, would use their language for everything. However, its the opposite in Malaysia.

I am not saying that I want Supreme Commander to say "Komander Taragung" in the cover but just having a small part of the packaging in BM shouldn't really effect you in deciding whether to buy or not to buy. The price is cheaper than the 'unlocalised' version. In fact, it should promote us more to buy the localised version.

china and japan are not multi nation country, at least, not as much as we do.

back to topic. for me, i am very picky. i want my game boxes and manuals in english, and chinese (proud of chinese language!) is fine for me. BM is always a no no. It is just not artistic enough for me to get those up for display and collections.

The localised versions of Supreme Commander and Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl are the first two titles that are being localised by New Era Interactive Software.

Localising games from English isn't easy, but this time around i made sure that the meaning from English remains in the Malay version.

It's a give and take situation, it has to be in Malay to prevent grey exports to countries like the U.S., just like in Thailand.

We hope to bring in more localised games and if you like to see more games, then do your best to support: buy localised!

like i said, really glad gamers here are finally given the opportunity to buy affordable original games. pirated games dont sell much in thailand anymore because of the dirt cheap prices of the original ones, and there are always so many promotions. it only really took off cuz when they started way back, the gamers were so supportive of it. all the shops that used to sell pirated cds now sell original, like this place in MBK called i27.
so please malaysian gamers, support these localised versions! the more you do, the more they'll make affordable versions of all the new games. its a win-win situation for everyone smile.gif

and yeah, the reason they have to translate it is because if they didnt, it'd be smuggled to the west. any idea how lucky we are in this side of the world to have localised versions where the games are STILL in english??? in the US and UK they pay sumthin like rm150++ dont they. i'd buy the localised stalker, but i'd rather go home and get mine with the thai manual tongue.gif

hold ur horses fellas! lets not stray off topic here.

with regards to the language, as far as i know they keep the game itself in english. however, EA thailand (being lame-ass EA) made some games actually in thai (NFS series, Battlefield)....BUT at the day of launch, before u know it, all u gotta do is mess with a config file and change the language back to english, so problem's solved tongue.gif what i'm trying to say is even if they come out with a BM lang. game (i doubt they will) dont worry!!!

it is OK for BM localized version. just that in my posts, i stated that i won't buy it that's all. i would still go for 100+ original english if i really like the game much.

and there's really not much they can do with the game, if they (localization publisher thingy) twisted the in-game language too much, i doubt it would even help to prevent piracy. a majority feedback is required for such products.
