are u taking a nightshot with a high brightness object?
if yes...most probably its a lens flare or something wrong with the lens...
since i got this problem too when shooting a full moon...
but i only have blue dot...no red dot...=)

It's noise la. Every camera has it if you use long exposures or high ISO. So it's not a defect in your camera.

8 sec exposure is quite long so noise is generated. See below explanation and take note of the red-coloured text. It explains your problem.

QUOTE
The Cause: Sensor Noise

Each pixel in a camera sensor contains one or more light sensitive photodiodes which convert the incoming light (photons) into an electrical signal which is processed into the color value of the pixel in the final image. If the same pixel would be exposed several times by the same amount of light, the resulting color values would not be identical but have small statistical variations, called "noise". Even without incoming light, the electrical activity of the sensor itself will generate some signal, the equivalent of the background hiss of audio equipment which is switched on without playing any music. This additional signal is "noisy" because it varies per pixel (and over time) and increases with the temperature, and will add to the overall image noise. It is called the "noise floor". The output of a pixel has to be larger than the noise floor in order to be significant (i.e. to be distinguishable from noise).

Another type of noise, often referred to as "stuck pixels" or "hot pixels" noise, occurs with long exposures (1-2 seconds or more) and appears as a pattern of colored dots (slightly larger than a single pixel). As explained in the noise reduction topic, long exposure noise is much less visible in the latest digital cameras.

1. Check whether Noise Reduction is on or not.
2. Check your ISO setting whether too high or not. Recommended to be 200 and below.
3. If even NR is on, do a pixel mapping after taking 2-3 very long shutter shots with your lens cap on.

Hope these will solve your problem. Best is to post a sample with the EXIF intact.

Sorry all sifus, was away these few days. Now im back again.

Here is the example of red and blue dots photo.

f/7.1, 8secs, ISO 100, Focal length 6mm

Just in case you do not know where are the dots is. The red and blue dots are actually all over the whole photo, but because of colour similarity, so there are dots that cant be noticed. It can be noticed when there's a dark background.

Here is an example of "daylight" photo. ( no red and blue dots )

f/2.8, 1/125sec, ISO 200, Focal length 6mm

Those blue and red dots you got from the picture are noise. Since the C-720UZ doesn't have a NR feature, there is not much you can do. However, do try the pixel mapping that I've mentioned in my previous post. It should help.

You can remove the noise using software such as Photoshop Elements.

That's a very good job done. Try to avoid the shortcomings of your camera when using it and you will take great pictures!
