Everything is good about this phone except it's camera (also the HSPDA of course), but that's also what makes it at such low price, as always, a camera's megapixel can affect a phone price drastically.
Some may disagree that it's low priced, but comparing phone features and capabilities, it's considered low priced and considering many phones out there which are priced very high JUST because of a higher megapixel camera. This is a very powerful smartphone; For those who knew about technology and those features and specs should know well. Just about 2 weeks before it was launched, the 8GB I inquired was estimated priced around RM1899! I was so shocked and cannot believe because that would simply kill the 6500 slide, and many other Nokia phones. But then they adjusted it to > RM2K, which sounds more reasonable but bad news for us consumers. So I would believe the actual priced should be RM1899 but they have to adjust it for various reasons, and also, as always, the price always different when launched. Anyway, talking about price, I was so annoyed because after I bought the phone from Nokia in One Utama, I went down to Maxis to switch my plans, and there I saw the the N81 selling @ RM1924 ONLY! I asked if there's any plans/terms & conditions/etc, but there isn't!!! I asked why, they answered me "We don't have to followed retail or recommended price"... I was like... OMFG, I just wasted few hundred JUST LIKE THAT! And oh, it's still original same distributor as sold by Nokia Profesional, not AP model. The dissappointing part of the camera is that it doesn't even have "Autofocus" feature, and the shutter speed is slow, burst shot doesn't seem so much of the burst shot due to the delay. It should at least have "Autofocus" and better if it's Carl Zeiss lens. Anyway, the display is superb, kinda like those "Ultra Bright Crystal Clear" LCD found on laptops. It's really that good, crystal clear and bright. N95 is unmatched in this. It's so good that it can fool you the picture quality taken with this camera is good until you transferred it to your PC and then WTF? And the best part yet, I transferred pictures from my old 6600 pictures, suddenly those pictures become so CLEAR and BRIGHT, it's unbelievable it was a 0.3 megapixel picture. The more impressing thing is, some pictures cannot even be seen from my old 6600, it's too dark and not clear, but when viewed with the N81, it's suddenly so clear and bright! Another amazing part is, I set the brightness of the phone NOT EVEN half. Talking about camera lens, the impressing part is the FRONT CAMERA, it's actually very clear, much more clearer than Sony Ericson (dunno which model, quite latest one) and also even the N95. This has nothing to do with the LCD display because it was a 3G video call to those phones and they're impressed and shock of the clarity. |

I second that. I think if the camera is better on this phone, it will be selling like hot cakes (but its not too shabby, still can take outdoor shots), but overall, i like the phone. Its speaker are damn good and the screen like you said, is very clear. Some may disagree that it's low priced, but comparing phone features and capabilities, it's considered low priced and considering many phones out there which are priced very high JUST because of a higher megapixel camera. The phone is great. Great sound quality, fast UI, loads of softwares, excellent connectivity with PC and loaded with features. Im completely satisfied, been using for about a month - N81 2GB.
Quit complaining bout its keypad all, it just takes time to get used to it. The only downside of the phone so far i have noticed is its surface - its very smooth and shiny, so its get oily fast. Have to keep wiping :-) |
