Things to do before a firmware update:
1. Install Nokia PC Suite, and backup all the files (contacts, msg, n etc.) from your phone to your computer or u can backup ur files into ur mass memory or memory card.
2. Charge your phone battery to its full level.
3. Beware that any hindrance (like power off, etc.) during the update process can damage your phone.

Let's get started.

1. In your N81 phone, type in *#0000#
Your N81 will now display the firmware version it's running.
2. Carefully open the back case of your phone, and also take away the battery.
3. Note the product code down.
4. Go here and type the product code. You'll now know if a new version of firmware for your N81 phone is available.
5. Download the Nokia Software Updater.
6. Install the Nokia Software Updater.
7. Connect your N81 phone via the USB port by CA-101 cable, and also make sure your computer is connected to the internet.
8. Open the Nokia Software Updater.
9. The Nokia Software Updater connects to the internet, checks for updates, and then detects your phone to start installing firmware updates for your Nokia phone
10. You might see some fuzzy things going on in your Nokia phone, and that's perfectly normal to happen during a firmware update.
11. When all is done, the updater gives a confirmation message and then the phone restarts.
12. You can now disconnect the phone from the computer.

If u wan to have Chinese language...(APAC Region)
Then u need to make sure ur product code is Apac region pc.

1. Download Nemesis Service Suite Beta 1.0.38.14 (zip file, 6.3 MB).
2. Install it...During the installation pick Virtual USB Device from the Hardware Selection page.
3. Find N81 APAC region product code (at internet or get the product code from ORI set in M'sia or sg.)
4. Open Nemesis Service Suite and click on Scan for new device in the upper right section of the application window.
5. Click on the Phone Info icon.
6. Click Scan in the middle of the application window.
7. Enter ur new product code in the Product Code text box. Click the Enable check box. Click Write to change your phone's product code.

8. Close the Nemesis Service Suite and open Nokia Software Updater application to update the firmware.

*If ur N81 is ORI, thn ur product code is APAC Region pc. So, no need to change..juz straight away update by Nokia software updater. As for AP set, i'm not sure...some r Apac region pc but some not. Oh ya, dun forget change back to ur original product code ya coz it might void ur phone warranty.

Ok, as for the the physical aspects of the N81 8GB, the phone is very sleek...well designed and nicely built v solid feels but the phone is sensitive to finger marks....

The calling button are small and easily pressed wrongly and the key pad looks nice to see but it's hard to press also, especially whn typing msg (Will be used to it after few days ). Thus, I found that there is no pencil key in the phone...Oppss ..cannot copy and paste text ...dam*, but after discovered the phone thn I found the "Editing options" function in the menu where copy and paste are available. n What surprised me is that the Navi wheel, its juz like iPod wheel navigation. Btw, the Navi wheel navigation is only usable in the multimedia menu, music player, and photo gallery. Beside that, when in sleep mode the navi wheel thr got a power saver LED that will blinks once in 5 seconds time. (tis is so nice coz nokia phones whr got tis function). *According to the user guide, The LED blinks is to indicate that the phone is powered on, but in the sleep mode. "The sleep mode can be choose to on or off it."

The sliding mechanism is firm. You do not need to slide it in place all the way. It moves by itself with a nice snapping sound when you push it up or down halfway through. It's not same with N95.

With the 2.4 inch TFT display screen (16 millions colors), the sharpness is very .

With the 8GB flash memory, I can store many songs in my phone. Now my phone got around 1000 songs. Still left 3GB++...It's fantastic.

The stereo speaker is so powerful with tiny whiny bass. They are far louder than N93, N95 n N82. Beside that, the 3-D tones is dam* nice.. 3 dimensional sound effects for ringing tones and u can on or off it. If on it, u can choose the different effects under the sound trajectory n etc.

I was quite disappointed with the camera quality coz the camera quality is pretty poor by today's standards. There is no auto focus on the 2-megapixel camera of the phone. That means you cannot hold the camera button halfway to focus on the subject...snapping pictures is really quick. Why I feel disappointed is becoz I compared the photo with my N93's photo but the photo quality in 2-megapixel phone category is consider very good already. Don't expect the same quality from the N93 n N95 with autofocus woo.

As for Games, I haven't play any N-gage games in tis phone, juz played the 3 demo games inside the phone. (no times n lazy to find N-gage games la ). I am very enjoyed with the quality of the games n the quality of the screen also(super sharp).


As for conclusion, I like the design of my Nokia N81 8GB...very sleek and stylish looks. The drawbacks are:
- 2 megapixels is simply not enough.
- Uncomfortable keypad.
- No built-in GPS receiver but with the price of it, it's very good already.
This phone will be great for those who spend a lot of time in listening music and also want to play games on their phone. I would recommend it to everyone. Yes, it is a quite expensive phone but the money is worth it. You will find it hard in the first couple of days but after that, it's fantastic! "N81, Entertainment made simple..."
