RTX was already blazing on vulkan.. and now even faster..
advantage of that mesh pipeline.

Same here with Zotac. They claim per Nvidia instruction only valid for promo period. F*ck Nvidia!

Eh? Invisiblelim said he got it from Zotac? See the post above.

I would sincerely recommend holding onto 10-series for now instead of jumping into 20-series, unless of course you got the cash for a 2080 Ti and you need to get your RTX fix with a 'decent' performance.

2070/2080 price/performance ratio over 10-series is simply not worth it.

The used market for 10-series is mighty popular right now... if you're ok with used of course. Top up to around ~ RM2.4 and you can get the mighty 1080 Ti but if you're interested in the 1070 Ti then that's fine too.
*
Agreed. Unless you want the firepower, not necessary to get the RTX yet. Wait for games to fully utilize ray tracing, DLSs, adaptive shading before deciding. Battlefield V not counted because when you are fighting, you wouldn't have time to admire the scenery unless you want to be an easy target for your opponents!

Disclaimer: I bought the RTX 2080 because of my new shiny 1440p 144hz gsync monitor. Need the firepower and hoping to see proper games showcasing the new tech in the very near future!

So quiet here.

Upgraded my rig from 4670k to 4790k. Running at 1440p. No difference in in-game benchmark for ROTTR, Deus Ex Mankind divide and shadow of war. Warhammer total war 3 fps higher but appears better at cpu intensive areas. Can't test cpu intensive games as I either don't have the games or there's no in-game benchmark.

So I guess there not really much cpu bottleneck for rtx 2080 at 1440p unless it is cpu-heavy games. Furthermore, my PCIE 3.0 is running at 8x due to the new PCIE nvme taking up a PCIE slot. So no difference on the rtx 2080 running at PCIE x16 or pciex8.

Of course, cant compare with newer generation processors but overall I'm happy with the upgrade. smile.gif

Looks like 16x/16x for dual slot and 16x/8x/8x for triple.

My old z87 is 8x/8x for dual and 8x/4x/4x for triple. sad.gif

Nice! I guess it is known that optimizations will come but I never expected it to be so soon! rclxms.gif

Now I feel the sore again..... not getting the free battlefield V bundle to test out ray tracing. Oh well, I waited for battlefield 1 to be SGD 11 so I guess I can wait for this one too. smile.gif

I play at Full HD - with Ray Tracing on also still 70 - 80 fps. biggrin.gif

I'm wondering how it's like on RTX 2060.

What card are you using? Battlefield 5?

Getting fed up with my Gigabyte RTX 2080 gaming OC reaching 83-84'c in certain demanding modern games when max 100% fan and speed throttling kicks in. Undervolting and more agressive fan speed doesn't really help as the temperature will still gradually climb up to max. Furthermore, stock gpu fans are just annoyingly loud at higher speeds.

Also setting power or temp limits will cause throttling when those limits are reached.

Deciding between repasting/changing thermal pads vs deshrouding, I have decided to deshroud with DIY FAN setup. My idea is to create a frame for the fans and the fan will sit right against the heatsink with some sort of adjustable height between the gpu and the PSU casing shroud. Maybe a couple of cheap GPU stands if i can get them cheap. With the fans not attached to the gpu, it will make it easy to remove them for cleaning. With new gen GPU unreasonably expensive, going to hold up upgrading for another few years.

Ordered x3 F9 Arctic PWM PST and fan header splitter (1 to 3). Noctua fan just not worth it. Now to find an app to control fan speed according to GPU temp.

Argus Monitor, paid app tho
why not repaste as well?
*
There's a free app : https://youtu.be/uDPKVKBMQU8

I never done a repaste on GPU mainly because of the difficult pulling the thermal pads apart and later ensuring all pads are in full contact on reassembling. Should be quite easy but I don't think I will do it for now. And changing to quieter fans will be better too.

Just found some cheap adjustable gpu stands on shopee that I can use to make the legs for the frame.

I've used Zotac reference, Asus Strix and MSI Ventus with casing fans and been using Afterburner (or Asus GPU Tweak) for fan control, with the fan connected to the GPU. Sans Asus, need a 4pin (female) to mini 4-pin (male) to connect the fans to GPU.
*
I'm planning to use my motherboard fan head. The manual says each header can support up to 2A so should be ok for me to use 1-to-3 splitter to connect 3 fans (0.1A each) to one head.

Anyway, I decided to take the plunge and go for repasting. I think my 4-year-old gpu's thermal paste is dying too. I hope I don't damage the thermal pads. Googling shows my gpu using thermal pads with 4 different type of thickness!!! Probably need to get some pads first.

I would suggest getting thermal pads for VRAM at the very least. If they're all on soft pads, buy replacements for all of them - chances are, they'll tear up when removing the heatsink.
*
Yes I bought the thermal pads for VRAM. Damn expensive this Thermal Grizzly. Only to find out it was 3cm x3cm only and not enough for all the VRAMs. sweat.gif So I didn't use it.

Boy, I am so so sooooooooooo happy.

I solved my GPU overheating problem and it is because of the damn original thermal paste. When I detached the heatsink, I found the thermal paste hard and cracking. Like cheese cake put out in the open for 1 year. ranting.gif

Luckily the thermal pads was soft and easily put back into place.

I bought coolermaster mastergel pro v2, applied it, reassemble the whole thing, fired up my rig and wow! Gaming temps for "Control" game was 56'c instead of reaching thermal throttling of 83'c in less than a minute!! rclxms.gif

At least now I have solved my GPU problem and tamed the 13700k. So happy.

itulah.. apa mau deshroud/replace fan... rite rite?  biggrin.gif
*
Yeah, actually no need to deshroud anymore. The gpu fans didn't even need to go above 50%.

But I already ordered everything for DIY. X3 90mm Arctic F9 PWM PST, metal brackets to hold the fans, fan header 1 to 3 splitter, gpu stand x4. It will be interesting to build a standalone gpu cooler that sits right against my horizontally mounted deshrouded GPU.

Long-term wise, easy to take out to clean the fans and also use it for future GPU. It is going to be future-proof!!! biggrin.gif

Will post some pics when I finish this DIY project.

Definitely going to skip 4000 series. Luckily my rtx2080 is still OK at 1440p gaming.

Then 5000 series will be even more expensive. Gamers need to remember GPUs are now used for more than just gaming,it will not be cheap like the past anymore. With the rise of AI I expect prices to be higher next series
*
With the hopes that prices comes down. If it doesn't, just have to delay until my card cannot take it anymore. icon_question.gif

Finally got all the components I need to DIY GPU cooler.

Attached Image
x3 Arctic F9 PWM PST fans. They actually come with additional headers to connect to other fans. Luckily the 1-to-3 splitters I bought is only RM3.

Attached Image
Brackets for the fans and adjustable GPU stand (magnetic base).

Attached Image
Assembled the fans and tried to do some cable management sweat.gif

Attached Image
Final result. The fan height will be adjusted to fit right against my deshrouded GPU.

Wished I had some anti-vibration pads to put on top of the contraption.

The magnets in the GPU stand near the mobo has been removed. Don't want to have risk of magnets affecting the mobo. Only the GPU stand away from the mobo still has magnets that can grip the base of the casing (PSU metal shroud).

Attached Image

Deshrouded GPU. Previously deshrouded so quite easy to remove the shroud as I previously didn't screw in one screw hidden behind the display port.

Attached Image

The final assembly. Quite easy to adjust the height of the fans as I just need to screw or unscrew the gpu stand at the base.
