hmm, what's the product code for malaysia n95 ? i wanna try to change my region
*
i heard if you change it then it will void your warranty.

i am trying to download the updater software and connect.
it seems that 2 person tried it and it works.

i went to nokia asia pacific site
selected N73 to proceed to download the updater software
once installed
gonna connect N95 and I'm expecting it to say update available as this is what others experienced.

and rmb to backup the datas. anything goes wrong can always do a hard format.

psyeo & Shinichi follow the steps at my post and heng623's post number 894 and 896.

If you want it simple then download the file from the link provided by heng623 at post 896 and after installation, connect your N95 and run the program.

The site tells me there is no update for my product code.

By using this application, it tells me there is an update available.

I have to take off the battery and start again..the worst news that Nav is not longer in the phone??? Have anyone encounter this problem...?
*
I encountered this. Nokia Cust Serv wasnt any help as they wanted to keep my phone for at least 2 hours just to install it.

Went to the shop I bought the phone and they did it in less than 5 minutes.

smile.gif

Did you backup earlier? If you did restore that backup.

If not then we'll see what can be done.

Is the AsiaMap still in tact after the new firmware update?
*
the asiamap is loaded on the memory card
not the phone memory.

smile.gif
the firmware clears the phone memory.

if you wanna be really secured then copy everything on your memory card to your PC prior to the firmware upgrade.

nop
it is a 60 day trial which upon expiry, the software will not access the gps anymore and you will be able to view the maps only.

well that is what i heard.

The main application is still nokia maps which is included in AP set.

so where is the best place to get asia map?
is that rite like you said the smart2go software is just 60 days trial? is that applicable for AP and original set?
btw, ur set is original or ap?

smart2go is nokia maps
it is not a 60 day trial
you only pay for navigation module
maps, routing etc are free.

AsiaMaps ....is another story
it is an application developed by navfone.

You get a free 60 day trial for KL or Singapore map. After which you will have to pay in order to continue using it(as I heard because I did not activate mine).

The AsiaMaps came together with the original set so it is applicable to it.

As for AP set I do not know anyone else who installed it so....I am unable to comment. But since the program locks on to your phone's IMEI upon activation, the rules should be the same if you managed to successfully install it on your AP phone.

mine is original.

QUOTE(sonyclie77 @ May 2 2007, 11:48 PM)
OK so I've just bought my E61i and am loving every moment of using it.

Though I know this is the N95 thread, but I have some questions pertaining to GPS which I think N95 users would be more familiar with. Coming from a WM5 based GPS background, GPS on Symbian is totally new to me.

So I've downloaded Smart2Go on my E61i. And I also transferred Malaysia's map to my device using Nokia's maploaded which someone posted the download link above. When I tried to plan my route, say for example to 1 Utama from my current location, it asks me to purchase.

My question:

1. Smart2Go is free right?
2. I thought you only pay if you want voice navigation, but still can use to plan route as some N95 users reported. But I find that I am asked to pay even if I want to use it to plan my route only.

Anything I missed somewhere in my installation?

Thanks a lot guys! biggrin.gif
*
Hmmm... as to your 1st question I've answered above and yea it is free except the navigation module.

the routing is supposed to be free. Mine is free where i select
1. options
2. plan route
3. choose starting point and destination
4. choose show route (it will calculate the route for me)
5. start tracking

doesnt seem to prompt me for payment

let me clarify the difference between smart2go and navfone... smart2go is to get the routing and see the map, and navfone is where u can get the information of the place near you (for example)... am i rite? sorry for clarifying, i am new to this stuff.... btw, if we want to plan route the from indonesia to east-malaysia (for example) then we have to download the map of indonesia and east-malaysia by using MAPLOADER rite?

if the asiamaps got 60day trial, so it is much better to get AP... no use for asiamaps
*
the asiamaps 60 day trial is something i read from diff forums from user's experiences. none of which are attributable to my own.

smart2go...mine tells me where is the nearest petrol station, stadium, parking spot, etc (I am able to add my own landmarks for smart2go).
navfone...didnt activate so do not know the details.

as for the indonesia to east malaysia part.....yea i believe you should download the map of indonesia and malaysia via the maploader from the link provided by rstusa

Hmm... but I even failed to plan my route, let alone voice navigation.

Is it because I'm using an E61i paired with Holux GPSlim 240 BT GPS receiver, and not a N95? Having said that, Smart2Go comes pre-installed in the N95?
*
not sure about that so can't be of help.

yea smart2go comes preinstalled on N95 by the name Nokia Maps

Routing is simulated when you do this, not real time. The paid version gives you realtime routing WITH voice navigation. Pair it together with the slow updating GPS built into the N95 and you are bound to miss every turn in your route to your destination.
*
i did not mean simulation mode.

what I meant is start tracking(real time).

meaning they will show a blue line of my route and it will track my position real time as I move along the route or beyond the route calculated.

simulation mode will just simulate my expected movement along the route.

edited: I was under the impression that when I start tracking my movement, I am being tracked real time as it is rather accurate. More over went and check out the FAQ and got this

QUOTE
What is the difference between route planning and turn-by-turn navigation?

Route planning calculates and displays a route between two locations.

Turn-by-turn navigation guides you to your destination using voice instructions (e.g. "turn left in 300 metres").

3. Rerouting for Smart2go is better. The recalculation done very fast. Once you miss the turn, the Phone will rerouting for alternative route for you. The route options for Smart 2go better than Asiamaps.

how does it recalculate??
i went off route but never recalculate for me.

is it part of the navigation package?

just updated the software for my n95 and overall i say that its faster than the older firmware.. try sliding out the music keys and let the icons load, then you can see that its alot faster... camera start and taking pictures still takes a long time.. locking on to 3G signal is faster..

i'll test it somemore and update the firmware differences..
*
satelite locking is faster.
smile.gif

just came back from lunch. managed to test the route planning whether the tracking is real time. It is real time. Well at least that is how accurate I see it.

tested the GPS data as well for navigation and trip distance.

Which is better?  blush.gif

Do I have to log on to 3G to use 'Maps'?
*
they are two different things

if you did not download the maps using maploader then yea you would probably need to connect to 3G to download the maps are you move. (not recommended)

best solution I find when you bought the phone is....
1. Open Maps application for the 1st time.
2. Close it
3. Connect to a PC via Mass Storage Mode
4. Run Maploader and download the selected map.

smile.gif that way you won't need to access 3G for the maps.
