It is not reliable. And troublesome.

The disc is very much depend on how you store. I have some disc that cannot be read anymore after 10yrs or less. Some can see the reflective coat get corroded.

Well M-DISC dosen`t have reflective layer, and it store the data on rock like layer instead of dye on normal dvd

If I get one bay Nas.. for future how do I change the hard disk to larger ones or when hard disk fails.. what are the options I have?

Back up using USB to external drive.. for this, can I still bring this external drive to another computer to open the files and read them?

Even it is able to last longer, such disc storage is outdated. Some cons about it

1) you can't share your creation with people. It main just store/ backup.
2) you need a read/writer player to read the disc. Many new generation pc/laptop does not include disc player anymore. Got to buy it. And you don't no 10yrs later, you still can buy the player or not.
3) The failure to read is still great with other damage point. Example scratch and dented disc.
4) Adding and deleting some file is not as easy and fast compare HDD. Disc size is limiting to GB. Try to create directory in such size few disc.
5) Searching a file is pain in the ass with many disc. Good luck with few TB file.

I have gone to this experience. Even I have don't no how many hundred of this disc in 1x. Once I transfer to NAS, all throw away.

Get the 2bay minimum. Don't save on this.

If you using 2bay, swap the old HDD out with larger size. Than it will copy over. Once finish, swap another HDD out.

For 2bay, you can take out anyone of the HDD out and read from another PC.

All inclusive.  thumbup.gif not even a cent extra required.
I use 1 bay & 2 bays only.

in 2006 - I use DS106e, upgrade the HDD a couple of times... not enough space
in 2010 - I migrated to DS110+, replacing DS106e (died of old age)  whistling.gif
in 2014 - I bough another one DS214J, my first dual bay. Purely for backup storage & redudancy. J model.

Till date, my DS110+ is my daily driver with heaps of own developed web apps & personalised web app running. Vehicle tracker (to track my cars), IoT logging systems (my house & office envirommental monitoring), sync my phone internal storage, etc.

Now thinking to get DS218+ to replace my DS110+ as daily driver. Later this year. Or maybe in a week or two to take advantage of zero GST  thumbup.gif

I spent more than RM20k on Ebay already, that's since the beginning of Ebay . whistling.gif Choose reputable seller. Should be ok.

Not pretty sure about sales, but normally can utilise those Lazada festive codes / seller special codes. Not sure about the savings. As for Synology - the price didn't drop much. Consistent throughout the year with minor fluctuation.

If you're in hurry, then just buy. sweat.gif

There is no problem buying from ebay. Even many item in ebay is cheaper and cannot find elsewhere.

My previous synology DS409+ brought from ebay and from US. Price cheaper by RM900.

For warranty, you can direct email to synology and arrange for repair.

My new Synology DS1815+ spoiled earlier this yrs and I direct email to Taiwan. They told me to arrange send back to them or go through dealer here if brought from here. Since I brought from here, I just send to dealer.

US Ship to US which is free. Than hand carry back here.

Shipping cost is free if send back to dealer here. Only petrol cost.

If you ship it directly it is win win.
