Where you buy them?

Don't need to buy an expensive UPS. Enough to backup the NAS and modem router is enough.

As long as it give sometime for the NAS to shutdown safely is enough.

There is no logic to get an expensive UPS to prolong the run time. If you working and the NAS shutdown at home, you not going to rush back anyway.

My NAS always shutdown when lightning. I only go back home and reset the RCD . Not rush back.

I bought if from Lelong long time ago.. I've changed the internal SLA battery once. The SLA battery should last 2-3 years. Simple DIY.

Any online marketplace like Lazada, 11street should have APC brand.

ok.. will need to check it out at lazada, shopee, 11street, etc...

You also got the SLA battery from online market?

Another point you guys do not overlook is the home security. House burglary will take away your NAS and everything.

Left you nothing at all. Hardware and file all gone.

So how good is your NAS, how secure is your file in the hardware is no use once the theft cart away the whole thing.

I m not telling story, assumption or talk kok.

This is real situation happen to forumer here before.

hmm.gif got a point there..

Maybe I will consider put the NAS in my office?! Safer than home I guess...

Yup... nowadays... nearly everything online. I even bought my car tyres online, significantly cheaper than drive in to car tyre workshop. thumbup.gif

Point & click then wait for it to be delivered. biggrin.gif rclxms.gif Just buy from reputable seller. Look at their ratings.

No, they don't deliver, after I paid via Lazada system, they call me and ask which tyre workshop that I want to use as the place to get it installed. They list 3-4 panel workshop that near my house / office. Just choose one and set an appointment. Hassle free IMHO. Just drive into the workshop, 1h++ after that, drive out with 4 new tyres + free car wash thumbup.gif

This is the best what I can do.

If they can disable the lock, take it. I still have backup elsewhere.

I use 1 bay & 2 bays only.

in 2006 - I use DS106e, upgrade the HDD a couple of times... not enough space
in 2010 - I migrated to DS110+, replacing DS106e (died of old age) whistling.gif
in 2014 - I bough another one DS214J, my first dual bay. Purely for backup storage & redudancy. J model.

Till date, my DS110+ is my daily driver with heaps of own developed web apps & personalised web app running. Vehicle tracker (to track my cars), IoT logging systems (my house & office envirommental monitoring), sync my phone internal storage, etc.

Now thinking to get DS218+ to replace my DS110+ as daily driver. Later this year. Or maybe in a week or two to take advantage of zero GST thumbup.gif

4 years old tyres - still okay as long as the thread depth up to standards.

My DS110+ still running okay. But max out already. 512Mb RAM only. 3tb HDD, max as well. I believe it last long because it's protected by UPS since day 1. Need to upgrade to DS218+ (can upgrade RAM up to 8Gb) thumbup.gif

All my electronics at home back by UPS. LCD TV (bought 2008), UniFI equipments, PC, notebook... I have 3 APC UPS running 24 x 7.

Synology NAS is Linux based. As for Linux, more RAM the 'merrier'.

As for me, I have heaps of apps / feature running, not just mererly for storage. so, need more RAM. In my DS110+ other than storage purposes, I activate the Photo album, VPN, cloud sync, web server (serving at least 10 php based projects), MariaDb, Java based GPS tracker backend for my cars, own design and built IoT for environmental monitoring and much more. rclxub.gif rclxub.gif rclxub.gif Too many for that puny little DS110+. Plus it's ageing. 8 years old already. The needs to upgrade is real. sweat.gif

I didn't provision my DS214J as daily driver because lacking the horsepower that I need. It serves as pure storage / backup for DS110+ only. 2 seperate physical hardware / HDD. I have 100,000++ photos and videos since 2004, 60gb of mp3s (mostly classics), nearly 300 movies, my work portfolios, etc. Seriously can't afford to loose any of this. whistling.gif

In your case, if 2 person going to use it, any entry level NAS will do. Synology or Qnap. Both are equally good. thumbup.gif
