QUOTE(Digitral @ Jul 11 2007, 10:31 PM) Yeah , because i dun think 1 meal a day is good. Yes.... the best is 2 meals... but you will have to follow how much your dog eats... like say normally you give 1 cup a day.... so you divide, become half cup morning and half cup night. That is better. i plan to continue feed my lui lui 2 meal a day if 18 month onwards. Even Pretty is 1 and half years old , i still feeding pretty 2 meals a day , i do heard some of my vet advise that is not necessary to feed a dog one meal a day too. Thanks for the advise once again , because i been wonder is that possible that i keep on let my furkids eat 2 meals a day , i feel they will more love it which is wont eat too fast when i serve a meal to them , i feel if a dog eat too fast no good , right ? Dogs that eat too fast can suffer from bloat or twisted stomach.... I think bloat is more common.... they gulp the food but gulp air also, causing the stomach to balloon with air... can be very uncomfortable. This is common with boxers.... well, my Tammy and Toby eat got their own table so their food bowl not on the floor... this makes bloat less likely to happen.... but dunno true or not since I read in 1 of the dog books I have. |

"Elevated feeders may help reduce intestinal gas in dogs. Eating bent over forces dogs to gulp their food. In the process, the dogs swallow more air. This air can end up as foul-smelling gas a while later. The higher the food dish, the less gulping. In rare instances, swallowing an increased amount of air may result in a condition called bloat (gastric dilatation and volvulus - GDV). This occurs most commonly in large breed dogs, and is life-threatening. Some veterinarians recommend elevated feeders for dogs susceptible to bloat, although the benefits are not clear."
http://www.olddogpaws.com/elevatedbowls.htm Added on July 11, 2007, 11:14 pm"Elevated Dog Dish An elevated dog dish is a good choice for anyone with a large breed of dog. An elevated dog dish may help your large dog digest his food better. There are different opinions on this topic, but many veterinarians and owners of large breed dogs agree that there seems to be a lower instance of bloat and other digestive problems when an elevated dog dish is used. If you opt for an elevated dog dish, there are many different types and styles from which to choose. Some dog owners opt to use an elevated dog dish because it seems more comfortable for their large breed to eat that way. Others do so out of fear of the dog developing bloat. For dogs that are at risk for bloat, which includes most giant-sized and many large-sized breeds, there are other precautions that should be taken either in addition to or instead of feeding your dog from an elevated dog dish. One of the most important things is to ensure that your dog stays relatively calm for about one hour before and one hour after feeding. It is especially important not to allow your dog to engage in vigorous exercise immediately after eating. " http://www.chowtimeproductions.com/library...d-dog-dish.html Added on July 11, 2007, 11:15 pmI'll get some pictures of my dog eating from their flower stand tomorrow hahahah.... anyway, small dogs don't really need it, more for big dogs. Yah... all dainty and expensive looking.... well, all dogs benefit from such elevated bowls lah.... but it is more important for big dogs. I wanna look one which is the correct height for Chelsea so it makes her drink water without dipping her ears into her bowl.
