ck : by saying moving to big house means, wait till I move to a bigger house with bigger room tongue.gif cuz now I rented a room only and my room... not enuf space to have silky at the moment... currently I have 1 hedgehog and 1 suggie in it. Plus my house actually no pets allowed but I snuggled them into my room tongue.gif my owner knows I had hedgehog and sometimes they even ask me how's my boy doin... but they din know I had glider also...

I was thinking to find a more nice n bigger room after I graduate and find work to do. Then it's most suitable to rare a dog as I have more space at my room... that's what I think la... hehe
*
hi muchan86,

Haha..Im rearing my silky also without my owner knowing..and no pets are allowed in my apartment too. Hehe..I guess most owners have the same problems too..esp those living in apartments and condos.

Didnt know u got a hedgie and suggie..they must be really cute. tongue.gif Ya, since you mentioned you're just renting a room, prob its not so suitable. As silkies are hyper-mega-super-active ..they run and play around everywhere..always curious about everything. That's wad made them so cute and lovable as well..

Hi pottery,

Welcome to this forum..looks like more and more ppl coming in..hehe. How big is your yorkie..i mean in size like length/height? I've got a pure-bred silky girl that looks like yorkie too..went to dogathon upm08 and everyone keep saying its a yorkie..haha shakehead.gif . She's almost 7 months d, but really really small..

Its like terbalik hor, my silky looks like yorkie and sized like yorkie, but your yorkie looks a bit like silky and sized like silkie. Haha tongue.gif
But it probably makes sense since silkies originated from australian terrier+yorkshire terrier.. hmm.gif

some more chrisoys commented that my silky not normal... ohmy.gif

last time my silky will do the same too. she will auto climb up the chair and stand still let me comb her.

Ya..silkies are seriously intelligent dog..so smart it scares you sometimes. Whenever I teach my April commands like Sit, pee pee on newspapers..she can learn really fast..but only follow when she's happy. Whenever she's depressed or angry, habislah..she'll purposely ignore my commands doh.gif

Pottery,

btw, I notice your Siew Pao got no tear stains la..so good. Mine is really teruk..everytime clean d, sure get wet the next minute. Got any special secret to share bo? I'm waiting to try the Health N Shine..but dunno really effective or not..some more really pricey..

Hi babymiki,

long time I havent post in this forum d, dunno u guys still remember me bo..hehe. I've switched from Eukanuba to Orijen, the kibbles are great but April start skipping meals and refuse to eat nowadays. Furthermore, the Eukanuba kibbles caused her to sustain some skin rashes which almost made her bald..she lost her hairs tremendously. Luckily now she's getting a lot better..

So now I'm buying Eagle Pack Lamb Meal (wet food) and mix with her kibbles, and she loves it..cleans up the bowl everytime! Hehe.

I've been thinking of switching next to Solid Gold Lamb Kibbles, seems highly recommended on the Internet and www.dogfoodanalysis.com (great site for reviews of dog food). And I notice quite a lot of silkies are allergic to chicken...hmmm. Many had adviced me to feed April lamb instead of chicken. Its just too bad Orijen & Innova EVO only have chicken.

What kibbles u'r feeding your silky?

you can check this review:

http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_re...oduct=893&cat=3

The protein content is 28%, much lower than Orijen's 42%. They have quite a few types, including lamb, fish, bison, holistic etc. The review shows that its quite good, so feel like trying out.

babymiki,

Yalor, that's one of my concerns too. Last time I kinda refuse to buy Orijen for the same reason, then saw that I can get them online frm a forumer and from some pet shops, so much more assured. Perhaps I'll try the Orijen fish next time? hmm.gif Or maybe Natural Balance ...

pottery,

One word... WOW!! notworthy.gif
You're really knowledgeable and dedicated lar..How I wish I can be half as good as you..mayb 25% enough already..haha tongue.gif
My April should weigh slightly more than 1kg only..but I dont mind and I love her that way..like puppy forever, haha. Your comments on tear stains are absolutely fascinating, and I'll definitely try my best to follow your advice. I seriously have to agree with you that cutting the fur around her eyes short will cause tear stains. They grow slowly and always tend to get into their eyes. I'll make sure they dun cut the fur around the eyes during her next grooming session.

I rarely buy toys from pet shops for April..coz they're of low quality and my April easily get fade up with her toys. Instead I tend to buy kid's toys for April (like frm Toys 'R Us)..like soft toys that has sounds and bells...she loves them...and they last longer, washable, durable.

Speaking of feeding eggs, some says that feeding raw egg yolk to silkies can make silkies have more hair and shinier. Is this actually true? Effective? Hem.. hmm.gif

I'm feeding her supplement from Natural Pet Skin & Coat Supplement, and it is amazingly effective. April has been losing a lot of fur since she kena skin rashes 2 months ago, and after feeding her this supplement for just two weeks, her fur is growing back and skin rashes are getting lesser...this product is totally recommended. If anyone wants to try, can let me know coz I kinda know the dealer for Msia, can help get cheaper price. Its around RM45 and can last for 2 months, market price is RM55~60. icon_rolleyes.gif

conangirl,

I bet all silkies are always in curiosity with things around them..when my April got her 3rd jab, I brought her out to taman for her first outing. She just refuse to walk and start eating stones, sands and grass!! Haha.. biggrin.gif Luckily now she get over that and willing to walk by our side sweat.gif

silky is an active breed smile.gif
If u looked them inside ur room and they can hear someone was outside they will bark to ask for attention smile.gif

This is what I've been told by those 'seniors' bout this breed laugh.gif
I still like silky and I'm not buying them so soon cuz I need a better place and I want them to be happy with me =]
*
Most dogs will act the same and bark when they're locked. I wont recommend locking your dogs..very kesian de unsure.gif

Silkies are hyperactive, but still it depends on luck. Some ppl might have really quiet and obedient silkies (like 1 of my frens), while some have extremely active, naughty, playful, noisy (the list goes on and on..) silkies (like me !! laugh.gif )

hi guys, wanna know what is the price for silky ><
and how many colour are there
*
hi anderyna,

Prices for silkies varies between 1k to 2k, depending on the bloodline etc. But there are cheaper ones which ranges from RM500 to RM800 (prob without cert). Anyway, please choose the silky from a reputable breeder ya nod.gif

Colours for silkies vary from black-tan-brown to silver. They change their fur colour while aging from time to time. Mine was purely black-tan while still a puppy, and now its silver-tan-gold at age of 8 mths.. who knows what's the next colour? Haha.. tongue.gif

ck : thanks for the explanation smile.gif ur april soooo cute!! wub.gif

well... I have think it over n over... I might go to maltese breed 1st then when I move into bigger space just go for silkie smile.gif cuz I really scared that my place now is not really suitable for silkie... might as well I scared she bark if I leave her to go coll.. maltese might be same but then I heard they din really bark and I found it maltese size some also like silkie, some will big in size while some still consider small from other?

Anyway, babymiki : I had think it over and although its adoption wit fees or free still means I'm taking cuz it for adoption so better save up more money n buy my own hee smile.gif
*
muchan86,

thanks..its tiny, but hyper naughty!! doh.gif haha.

maltese is a good choice too, but IMHO it really needs a lot of care. Tear staining will be a real major problem, and if their fur are not cared enough, it'll turn yellowish and pink. Besides, maltese can be as hyperactive as silkies too. Perhaps white_palace can advice you more on maltese as he's the pro in this smile.gif Still, maltese are super cute too!! so cuddly !!

i dunno silky is med or toy breed. diff blood line diff one it seems. i've seen very tiny ones and have seen larger than mine.
*
I totally agree..me kena a really tiny silky..bring her everywhere ppl will say that she's yorkie..haha laugh.gif Maybe have to hang around her neck a signboard saying "I'm purely Silky" !! flex.gif

Perhaps the fact that silky is a mix between Aus terrier and yorkie that caused the variation in sizes..with some resembling more of Aus terriers and some more of yorkies..my 2cents.

looks like r silky thread back to action..... rclxm9.gif

for me, my Mika not consider very skinny or fat...just ngam ngam, maybe becoz she's spayed...

my next puppy might be toy red poodle, miniature shnauzer, GR/lab, bulldog, tibetan spaniel, papilon....
*
Papillon is very rare here in Msia..and expensive too. Spend so much on papillon and everyone will think its a long fur chihuahua..Haha laugh.gif

I once saw a tibetan spaniel..very very nice !! wub.gif But price for the puppy is like rm2.5k to 3k each sweat.gif
